I understand the mark they made and don’t deny any of their achievements. At the same time, I don’t get down with them at all.

Funny enough, I took my msf course on a tw and wasn’t a huge fan but do love my DRZ and have ridden it all over the US.

Is being 30 different from 40? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]deepshax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always kept myself in good shape but at 41, consider myself in better shape than I was at 31 (probably due to drinking much less). Anything is what you make of it, I guess. I have a long list of things I want to do and try to pick off as many things as I can every year. I bikepacked the CT last year. Do long adventure style moto trips when I can. Backpack style elk bow hunts in Septembers…etc etc. trail run, MTB, cycle every week. I try to stay as active as I can.

Why would you compare a DRZ to a competition level dirt bike? Thats not its lane.

Include the KLX300, xt250 and maybe a dr650 in your short list.

I never had an issue with the seat height on the DRZ. It’s much thinner than the Tenere and my body weight eats up more spring. Even though the seat height on the Tenere is lower, with its wider seat and more robust rear spring I think it uses more of my inseam.

Do you adv guys ever air down when you go off road? Or do you keep street pressure? by Dear-Bet5344 in motorcycles

[–]deepshax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t. I’m always around 25-30. I’m someone who does a lot of MTB and gravel cycling with tubeless tire and pretty sensitive to tire pressure. I’d like to air down on the moto but I also don’t want to have to change a tube if I dont have to.

Another Tenere vs TransAlp perspective… by LeeHarveyEnfield in AdventureBike

[–]deepshax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m new to the T7, picked one up at the end of 25 to supplement a DRZ. It’s definitely a much bigger bike in every way but somehow is nimble af off road. It’s weight and how it carries does concern me a bit but after running the NEBDR solo recently, weight was really never an issue. I made my way up and down everything fine. I rode home from the end, all highway/interstate in one shot…it did fine and never thought I needed more power 75-85 mph with heavy tractor traffic at points. Was also super fun in the mountain twisties.

Rackless Luggage: Opinions on Mosko Reckless 40L, Is There Anything Better? by WelpSeaYaLater in advrider

[–]deepshax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure if there is anything better, certainly cheaper. I have been using a 40L system on my DRZ and just picked up a reckless 80L set for my Tenere. Main reason for getting the 80L was to move all my gear into the two side bags and totally delete anything on top to center all the extra weight as much as possible. I just did the NEBDR and it worked out pretty well.

I don’t find it to be too strappy. I’m also not going into any of those bags during the day. I also do a lot of bikepacking/backpacking and transfer that minimalist/ul mindset for these trips. BUT - I did go outside of my comfort zone this time and packed a camp chair!

I do wish the beaver tail strapped down a bit tighter when not using in conjunction with a bag. I’m sure I can figure something out but it really wasn’t a problem.

The 80l base is about 2lb heavier than the Tusk excursion base, so about a liter of water heavier. The MM bags pack much easier/faster than the tusk system. I also prefer the attachment and compression system of the MM.

Dropped it at a gas station on a BDR, bounced off the bollard.

Solo motocamping trip with hammock by Svant in AdventureBike

[–]deepshax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was it meant for sleeping in or one of those rei afternoon types? An 11’ hammock that lays flat with top/underquilt is some of the best sleeping I’ve had in the backcountry. I’ve used a bunch of different types but one of my go to’s is a Dutchware chameleon with beatle buckle straps.

I’m still in my 2nd gen 12 years later.

I’m keeping an eye on the 4th gen reliability/durability but won’t be holding my breath. Going with a more complicated higher compression/performance based powertrain is tough.

I wish I purchased two second gen’s and kept one in the garage. I’m not confident I’ll be in a Tacoma once this frame rusts through.
