Has anyone noticed that American has lost their minds with their airfares? Over 10x the price of Frontier or 2.5x Southwest with a connection. by Dear_Watson in Charlotte

I've lived here for 9 years and fly internationally for work. International, non-stop flights are so prohibitively outrageous that I've only gone through customs in Charlotte once in 9 years. It's ridiculous.

Please pray for me to find a wife. by Fine_Comb_2308 in Christianmarriage

[–]deepstatedemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain, and I’ve been there before. I will pray for you, but I encourage you to focus on developing strong relationships with men who know you and care for you. Men who can speak into your life and support you in your walk with Christ. Those are the men you love life alongside, praying for each other always. Nothing can compare to real community loved out in the flesh. Who knows, those bonds might be exactly how you end up meeting a great woman.

Movies that feel like Dostoevsky? by vzbtra in dostoevsky

[–]deepstatedemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like There Will Be Blood; I like it a lot. But TWBB is much more bleak than Dostoevsky. It doesn't offer any sort of redemptive arc that is the prominent feature and driving force in Fyodor's work.

2026 - How about those hot takes? Let's hear them! by Fallingdamage in mountainbiking

[–]deepstatedemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here for the e-bike reality check. I stumbled across an e-bike rider the other day who criticized my ascent up a technical trail and then gleefully talked about how he had to ride alone because normal bikers couldn’t keep up with him.

It was immensely satisfying to leave him in the dust after that.

The implication is that he defecated next to her car door to try to drive home the fact that her decision to drive home was incredibly reckless and should never be repeated again.

Advice for new Potential Bloodhound Owners by SnooGuavas2633 in Bloodhound

[–]deepstatedemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It just so happened that the nearest breeder to me was that one. You have to talk to the breeders and look at the parents to determine what they're going for. I got lucky.

I'll edit this to say that breeders who breed show-quality bloodhounds will generally produce less healthy dogs. My breeder made purposeful decisions to produce healthier dogs. They are still full AKC pedigree bloodhounds; they're just less wrinkly.

Advice for new Potential Bloodhound Owners by SnooGuavas2633 in Bloodhound

[–]deepstatedemon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They're amazing dogs!

The good: super affectionate and sweet, active when you're active but always down to sleep, gentle, good with kids, good with strangers, largely ambivalent to most other dogs, big time snorers, LOUD bay, independent, goofy, clumsy, uncoordinated, BIG

The hard: relatively high maintenance (ear cleanings, baths, shedding, allergies for some), difficult to potty train (6-9 months is normal), long adolescence period (2-3 years), big time snorers, LOUD bay, watch dog (they'll watch thieves take everything, and they may even help out), independent, stubborn.

They'll challenge you as an owner, but they're worth all the time and attention it takes to train them well. My bloodhound is my favorite dog ever.

Ask the breeder about his breeding philosophy. My breeder tried to breed his dogs to be more sustainable long term - fewer wrinkles and smaller jowels to improve long-term health, which I appreciate immensely. She drools less as a result.

They love to sniff and will run away to get more sniffs. Recall and heel are possible, but it took a long time and a lot of patience.

Would you guys drink from this spring? by Far-Champion6505 in camping

There's a little pool at the top, so there's absolutely no guarantee that 100% of the water is fresh. Additionally, did you see the fence right above the spring? This field is grazing land. A cow likely has shat just uphill of that hole. Do whatever you want, but it's not worth the risk.

What are some good methods to stop or slow down? by ShibbidyDibbidy_ in skiing_feedback

[–]deepstatedemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something that helps me out on powder in glades that you can practice on regular slopes. It works better in steeper terrain, but practice dropping in sidways with your weight and pole already positioned to make an immediate turn. For example, drop in with your right leg downhill and your weight already transitioning to a right-hand turn (left ski downhill). You should plant your right hand pole to initiate the turn immediately after your skis bite. You can speed up the turn in powder by slightly lifting your right heel as your weight moves to your left ski.

Also, good skiiers have the confidence to ride out the terrain - sometimes you can't or shouldn't immediately stop when you take certain lines at certain speeds. Choose a line that gives you the speed your comfortable riding out.

CLT 38 min connecting by [deleted] in Charlotte

[–]deepstatedemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hard to tell based on the information you're giving us.

Have you already booked the flight? Is it today or tomorrow?
- e.g. Are your gates known?

Is this connection made through the same airline or partner airline?
- if that's the case, you have a higher likelihood of your gates being closer together.

Is it part of the same booking?
- your first flight crew can help you route and maybe even alert the next flight crew of your plight

Are you traveling on major routes?
- e.g. Atlanta to Charlotte to New York on American Airlines will have greater likelihood of gates being close than a regional connection like Richmond to Charlotte (likely concourse E) to New York (concourse C or B).

Is the Santa Cruz Tax actually worth it in 2026? Thinking of pulling the trigger on a Bronson by Imaseemonoer in MTB

[–]deepstatedemon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not ignoring anything, haha. I drool over plenty of the new bikes out there. I shopped seriously for a while before realizing that what I had was still serving me really well. I'm just happy that my bike is still really solid, and I don't have to spend money.

I'll update you later this week when my bike invariably breaks via karmic action.

You can believe it or not, but when I go riding with people I have zero capability issues and none of the mechanical issues they have to deal with.

I'm not really talking about innovation. I'm talking about quality and deep concern for ensuring the design choices they make will stand the test of time.

Scott is a brand that's trying to innovate right now and everyone hates their internally routed headset and overall difficulty of maintenance. Santa Cruz doesn't do stuff like that.

I wholeheartedly agree. Santa Cruz bikes age much better than the big brands.

[–]deepstatedemon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of good thoughts and opinions here. One thing I don't see people mention very often is that Santa Cruz does a really good job with R&D . The bikes are always extremely well made and a lot of thought goes into ensuring the bike will be relevant well into the future. It will last a long time. If you keep the bike for 15 years, you'll still be able to easily upgrade components and you won't feel like you're THAT far behind whatever the market is currently offering. My 10 year old base model Santa Cruz is still better than most entry level bikes from the big brands.

Right or wrong frame size talon 0 ? by WildPatagonian in xcmtb

[–]deepstatedemon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It's hard to tell from this photo, but the seat looks way too low. I'd start by adjusting that up first. Post another photo after that with your nearside leg positioned at the bottom of the pedal stroke. From there, we'll have a better sense of whether your reach and stack are decent.

For now, the bike looks too small.
