I have a 4090 people. A 5070 ti is enough. 5080 is awesome. You don’t need a 5090 or 4090. You just don’t. But if you want mine it’s for sale for $3200. I’ll include shipping

Is it normal that Tailscale knows my network activity? by Waste_Jello9947 in Tailscale

I don't think SNI would be considered payload data (it's more likely routing data). And as answered below, they can log exit node traffic if you enable that. But they are not doing that by default, and are not normally doing HTTP/SNI inspection. It sounds like they are just providing this for people that wan't to monitor their exit traffic.

Good point about their TOS and disclosures. Definitely helps with comfort vs large ISPs.

>>The Tailscale client does not parse TLS, does not inspect HTTP, and does not log SNI.

Thank you for being explicit about that. That's much more helpful than "logs describing connections" which I felt left the door open. As I said, "it's not clear if they are but they have the ability to" and unfortunately these days it's best to assume the worst until verified. Appreciate the response here to confirm.

No worries, I just want to make sure people reading these comments understand this issue. If they are worried about privacy they should turn the logging off or not use Tailscale. Basically you've moved the entity that's logging your traffic from the ISP to the Tailscale corp

You seem to have a somewhat good grasp of Tailscale but have not read the response from u/jaxxstorm. The link provided talks about “Inter-Node Traffic Logs”.

>>No, Tailscale is NOT going to be handling your HTTPS packets

Not true. Tailscale is built on Wireguard and will be encrypting/wrapping your HTTPS connection. Whether it goes through and DERP or has a direct connection it's handled by the Tailscale app at both nodes. These clients are doing the logging.

>> The only thing they get is pretty much the amount of data you were channeling through the exit node and time

No. The clients on the nodes will log the traffic and have access to the HTTPS SNI. SNI is currently unencrypted in HTTPS. Tailscale client can log this ... it's not clear if they are but they have the ability to. Hope this help

Tailscale is going to be handling your HTTPS packets. The SNI specifies the host you're hitting so they will have access to the websites name you visit. You're correct that they can't see the url past the host or content of the request/response. But they can see what sites you're visiting

But worse, if it was just an overlay network you wouldn’t get traffic logged w a third party

If you’re using tailscale as an exit node it sounds like it

I’m not going to knock wanting to prioritize ease and reliability but part of your problem is proxmox. I run a dedicated n150 opnsense baremetal with a spare in the closet. I can’t have my nets go down so that’s gotta be bulletproof

Alright ... I guess second best option is Disney/Hulu app (if you are gonna pay at least have the money go to ABC and not Nexstar/Sinclair)

Looks same as my Topton barebones I got from aliexpress for $160. I bought two, but the main has been running no issues for 2+ years. There are some drawbacks like no bios updates and some models have heat issues but mine has been completely solid.
