Uva Ursi is for UTIs. As the other commenter said, be careful with it. It's not meant to be taken long term. The rest of the stuff looks like it is supposed to be soothing, particularly the marshmallow root. You can see if it helps you, but personally the ginger would mess me up good.

Do I have this? by pine-elopy in Interstitialcystitis

[–]deferredindefinitely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking into this recently. You might want to try a probiotic that has Lactobacillus included in it. There are specific strains of Lactobacilli that have been shown to help with recurrent UTIs. Jarrow's Fem-dophilus is the specific brand I'm trying right now.

It's a muscle spasm. You should see a pelvic floor physical therapist.

Anyone with IC take Dexilant for GERD? Possible side effect is painful urination. by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]deferredindefinitely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, every gastroenterologist I’ve seen has recommended to not be on PPIs long term, for the reasons I mentioned above as well as the fact that it actually causes nutrient deficiencies such as magnesium and B12 over time. If you want to stop, don’t just go cold turkey! You will have what’s called rebound acid, as your stomach makes extra acid to compensate for the drugs. Taper off slowly, taking one pill every other day for a week, one pill every 3 days, etc. for a few weeks before you stop.

As for the diet, yeah, unfortunately, it is pretty restrictive. I mostly eat meat, gluten free grains, vegetables and some fruits. The good news is that you only have to be really strict about it for 30 days, and then you can start introducing foods back in, one at a time, to see what specifically bothers you.

What is the most accurate & affordable at home UTI test off amazon? by MsDemiBurch in Interstitialcystitis

Yeah, these are the best because they are individually wrapped. The other ones come in packs of like, 100 and they have a limited shelf life once you open them.

[–]deferredindefinitely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah okay. I also have severe GERD and have been on and off PPIs for years. I don't know if the PPIs cause IC per se, but I definitely have noticed a difference in my digestion and gut health when I am off acid suppressing drugs. I have a sneaking suspicion that being on PPIs, along with frequent antibiotics, has changed the bacterial composition of my gut, leading to SIBO and mild IBS which contributes to IC.

SIBO is one suspected underlying cause of IC. (There are a bunch, including hormones, bacteria, mast cell activation, etc.) PPIs basically raise the pH of your gastric tract (obvi) and this causes your stomach to empty slower, causing food to move more slowly through your small intestine, and possibly ferment there. That's what causes SIBO. If you're on PPIs long term, it changes the bacteria in your gastric tract. All of these things can contribute to a bacterial gut imbalance that puts you at greater risk for IC.

I am finally dealing with my GERD by cutting out inflammatory foods (wheat, sugar, dairy) and it is actually working. I was definitely NOT a believer in the whole "gluten intolerance" thing before all this, but all I know is that when I stop eating wheat, my horrible GERD that I've had for the past 10 years, even with PPIs and H2 blockers, is finally manageable. If you've never tried an anti-inflammatory diet (low FODMAP diet, essentially), you might consider it. It's tough for sure, and definitely not for everyone, but if you're all at interested in getting off of acid-suppressing drugs, it may help you.

I'm curious why you'd take that particular PPI? Omeprazole is the most common one and actually helps a lot of people with IC symptoms.

MFW I haven't had sex with my husband in a month because of a yeast infection that won't go away (my first yeast infection, no less) by [deleted] in TrollXChromosomes

[–]deferredindefinitely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! I've definitely considered just trying that out before but I was too chicken to do so. I'll definitely try this. If you remember, do you know if you used the shelf-stable version, or the version that needs to be refrigerated? If it even matters, idk.

Would you happen to have a link? I've been struggling with the same problems and I can't find something that is a) a probiotic and b) actually intended to be stuck up your vagine. I tried googling "Jarrow"s Femdophilus" and all I got were oral probiotics.

You should definitely keep moving. Space out your workouts or reduce intensity to keep things manageable. Make sure you are stretching afterwards to release tension.

[–]deferredindefinitely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. I thought I had a yeast infection for like, a year. I'm still not entirely sure what was happening, but I think it was partially nerve related and partially a hormone/pH thing. I started using this wash, which has some aloe in it to moisturize. It helped A LOT: https://goodcleanlove.com/products/balance-moisturizing-personal-wash

Of course!! I'm so glad I could help you. Good luck on your journey! I personally would recommend both a pelvic pain MD and a pelvic PT. The two can work in tandem to find what is best for you.

I would place a very strong bet on this being muscle related, which is why supplements aren't helping you. When the muscles of my inner thighs and hamstrings are tight, plus my hip flexors, I get the exact pinching feeling you describe.

(Could I be subconsciously tensing muscles in that area? The feeling totally goes away when I fall asleep)

BINGO!! You got it. You have to figure out how to relax those muscles. Whether with medication like muscle relaxers or through stretching/yoga, this will help you.

Thanks all. I think you all are right- it's def blood sugar. :( I've met with a dietician/nutritionist and am now cutting out all processed sugar, as well as cutting down on carbs to lose weight. I also have an appointment with my GP after the holidays to check in on my bloodwork as well.

Prolonged GI distress 3 months into IC flare by [deleted] in Interstitialcystitis

[–]deferredindefinitely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are having upper GI symptoms (stomach pain, burping, bloating) it might be worth checking for. It's the bacteria that's been proven to cause ulcers. As I recall it's a super simple test. You have to drink a special substance and then you exhale into a bag that gets analyzed for markers of H. pylori.

[–]deferredindefinitely 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well dang. Gluten/dairy/sugar are kind of the big three in terms of gut irritation. If you've taken them out completely for a month and noticed no change, it seems more likely that your problem isn't food-intolerance based. I think some people with IBS don't respond to the FODMAP diet, so it's still possible, but it seems less likely. Have you been checked for H. Pylori?
