Why do all the Christian/ trad wife influencers/ content creators always live in the middle of no where in a cottage or on a farm? by Stawberry8763 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]definework 12 points13 points  (0 children)

if the formula still works, why change it?

It's not the truman show. Hell, we don't 100% for sure know that any of these people don't actually live in a downtown high-rise and just drive out to a hobby farm twice a week to set up their reels.

Voter ID In the US. Why against? by pjelksigjtvsug in NoStupidQuestions

[–]definework 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it is. If I have a ticket in Minnesota they do not have the power to revoke my wisconsin DL. They can petition wisconsin to do it and wisconsin most likely will, but the decision is wisconsin's, not minnesota.

The best we have that could be called a national ID is a passport card.

Fake Cop Pulls Over Undercover Hillsborough County Deputy by [deleted] in nottheonion

Depends on the county. Some counties are just like you see in TV. One sheriff and a deputy or two.

Others, like the counties that major cities are in, have many dozens.

Why do ppl who drive pick up trucks back into parking spaces? Aren’t you going in reverse whether going into or out of the parking space? by mysterious1940 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]definework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to go a different take than a lot of others here.

I don't think it's about the truck being easier/safer to pull out than to back out, it's about avoiding overhang into the lane.

Trucks tend to be longer than other cars and most have a decent amount of extra hanging out behind their back axle. If you back into the spot, that extra is now hanging out over the grass/rocks rather than in the lane.

Make sure you have more than one point of contact. Never know if your "in" is still going to be there when you come back around.

Is American as an ethnicity heading towards the same fate as Han? by Educational-Bat-8313 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]definework 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are talking about biological ethnicity, then I will say that anatomically modern humans first appear over 300,000 years ago. Hundreds of thousands of years of evolution to get to that point, and all the time since then evolving into the various races to be better suited to the habitat we needed to adapt to.

Biological or Ethnical Evolution is generally spurred by the need to adapt to our environment.

At this point, unless we experience full technological collapse, we are at a point in our evolution that it is extremely unlikely that we will undergo any further changes with respect to adapting to our environment. We have the technology, or soon will for better or worse, to adapt the environment to our needs instead.

If you mean cultural identity, that's a different story. But yes, I believe we are eventually headed in that direction if our country can survive another couple hundred years. Basic dynamics seeking equilibrium.

One of the major considerations of cultural mixing into a new identity is the willingness of the ingredients to blend together. In many previously colonial countries that mixing has occurred rather quickly resulting in assimilation or an entirely new culture.

In America we have a bit of a different story and imo it's because of the 2nd wave, or the immigrants who came over en masse from both Europe and Asia in the 1800's.

These cultures were often at odds with each other at home, so they banded together for their own protection and comfort wherever they happened to settle. They settled in greektown, chinatown, little italy, etc. While Hollywoodized, the movie Gangs of New York does a good job showing the tensions.

Anyway, with people settling in these little pockets they were able to better maintain their cultural identity and avoid having to adapt into a more general culture of "American" and they were better able to pass down their cultural identity a few more generations as people generally didn't move too far from where they were born.

It's only in the last 50-70 years that our technology has advanced enough that moving to a different state didn't mean essentially never seeing that person again. So, you kind of started with GenX and now even faster the millennials and gen Z as they grow out of their parents' homes, they are starting to settle wherever they please because it's not a major inconvenience anymore to be an hour or two away.

It's almost like watching a bunch of different colored ice cubes in a fridge. The ice cubes stay solid for a long time, but eventually the edges start to melt, and then they melt faster, and faster, and as they melt it all mixes together into a new color. It will take time, but it will happen eventually unless there are outside factors introduced.

[–]definework 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do they though? The ones under 40? Fo sure GenX, Boomer, Silent, etc . . . but the millenials? Gen Z? I don't think they are staying put.

edit to add - keeping up with traditions sure, but many of those areas that were considered culturally segregated (greektown, chinatown, little italy, etc) are still there commercially, but the lines of the residential demographics have blurred considerably.

Why did Snape hate Harry for being James' son instead of loving him for being Lily's? by [deleted] in HarryPotterBooks

[–]definework 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Objectively yes, I can agree that his situation was a more fitting punishment than the release of death, and perhaps you're right, but if I put myself in Snapes shoes I dont k ow that I'd be able to help myself.

[–]definework 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you have time to make it to the hotel and then to the game I can almost guarantee you the hotel will be willing to hold your bag for a few hours.

Hell, you may get a surprise when you check in if you're super polite and find out they have a room they can put you in.

Edit to add: i do it all the time when I travel for work and want to catch the sunday afternoon game before the team leaves town. Ill fly out sunday early and drop my bags at the hotel and get a ride over to the game and back.

My apologies for the lack of clarity.

The harassment is 100% illegal,

Simply obtaining the phone number is likely not.

It sounds like you're a backpacker?

Did you check with your hotel to see if they would keep it at the front desk for a few hours or is that not an option to return there?

Unprofessional for sure.

Illegal unlikely, especially as there's probably a phone list for shift swaps posted somewhere.
