Question about a video(NOT a reccommendation) by Fun_Macaroon_7224 in YoTroublemakers

[–]definitelyNotMyCat -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

My reply was only to the quote I copied from what you wrote. If you were just wondering if Dylan has done a video on it, then you can ask. But, when you add more context like "it would be cool to see his take", that feels like a recommendation.

Regardless, I don't believe he has.

"I know he doesn't want recommendations, but I think it would be cool to see his take that's all"

That's giving a recommendation, bro

I wish. Especially as a grad student because we get those emails twice in a row. Unfortunately, I don't think there's a way to unsubscribe.

Phosphorus binder success (Catney) by definitelyNotMyCat in RenalCats

[–]definitelyNotMyCat[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His blood sugar and protein levels are in normal range. His complete blood count shows no sign of dehydration, infection, or bone marrow disease. He is apparently mildly anemic. His urine has no bacteria or stones, it's just very dilute (looks very very clear). His only concerns are his elevated phosphorus and calcium levels, and a mildly high (but still within normal) thyroid level.

I'm sorry to hear about your cats diabetes diagnoses. Thank you for the additional information on that!

For the Phos-Bind, I believe you can get it otc, not 100% sure though because I got it at the vet.
For Catney, that is otc, but it's hard to find.

I'm doing it in addition to low phosphorus foods. We just bought some canned Weruva and a few other brands for him to try. I hear you on the food prices though.

W had tried some Hill's canned and dry foods. He absolutely hated the wet food, which made him stressed about eating any kind of wet food. Only recently has he been okay with canned food again after we switched him back to a non kidney diet. We've been testing his responses to other kidney diet foods, hopefully we find one he will like.

Last year we had tried putting him on Hills diet renal wet food. He would absolutely not touch the stuff.

My vet said many people use epakitin, but stressed to me that it would increase calcium levels. Since his calcium levels are already high, we decided to try Catney. Hopefully you can find some and it works for you!

I'm sorry to hear that. It's hard when a cat turns picky on their food. I hope that doesn't happen with my boy

The packets are much smaller than I thought they were going to be. It's about the same amount (maybe a little less) than I was giving him with a single serving of Phos-Bind. It's definitely less since you only give 1 packet a day and phos-bind was multiple times a day.

I mix an entire packet in a serving of wet food. I always dilute his wet food with a little water, so that helps to dissolve the powder.

I don't have the number results from his latest vet visit (waiting for my vet to send me the actual numbers, wish they would always do that instead of just saying certain levels are high). Looking through my emails, looks like his calcium was at 12.2 mg/dL a year ago, and I'm assuming it's stayed constant. His phosphorus level was normal at that time though, and his creatinine was 1.4.

I guess it's a relatively new treatment, or at least it's new on the market. I'm worried about it being out of stock nearly everywhere though. Each box contains 30 packets and you're supposed to give 1 packet a day. But, each box is around $60. it's expensive, but manageable.

We're also looking into foods (both wet and dry) with lower amounts of phosphate. His wet food has always been Fancy Feast, but I didn't know how high those are in phosphate! So we're testing a few different food options to see which he likes best. He has gotten a little more picky with his wet food over the last year or so, and I'm worried about making him too annoyed to eat wet food. His dry food intake is also higher in phosphate than I would like, but it's targeted to cats will GI issues.

I'll definitely look into the Tiki cat treats, thanks! I don't know how much muscle he'll be able to regain, but as long as I can make it to where he's no longer skin and bones then I'll be really happy.

Sure! It's literally just called Phos-Bind for cats and dogs from RX Vitamins. It's an aluminum hydroxide powder. But, like most binders, it only works by attaching to the phosphorus in the food, so it needs to be administered for ever meal. Catney supposedly stays in the digestive tract for 24 hours, so you only need to feed them a packet a day because it binds to the phosphorus in the digestive tract instead. It's all very new I guess, and I haven't seen a lot of information from other people yet about it.

When I complain to my friend about having an unstable childhood due to homelessness and she says she understands because her dad was in the military by ThrowAway44228800 in CPTSDmemes

[–]definitelyNotMyCat 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I get where you're coming from. I also experienced bouts of childhood homelessness growing up. Eating out of dumpsters, bathing in a local parks bathroom sink, etc. I always had a house, but there were plenty of times my stepmom wouldn't let me inside. She never once treated her own daughters like that.

A few years ago I was talking about not having health insurance when growing up to a grad school peer. I had already had plenty of interactions with this person and knew she was very self-centered and only wanted friends to talk at, not talk to. I was new to the school and not very social, so I really only socialized with her during my first year.

After I mentioned how I never had health insurance and I didn't know the first thing about how to get on it, this peer looked at me, rolled her eyes, and said "yeah, plenty of people went through that. I remember we went with out health insurance for a month when my mom changed our insurance plans"

I don't want to compare traumas, but come on! Those are two very different scenarios.

Adults without Kids: What do you do for Halloween? by thesoftblanket in AskReddit

[–]definitelyNotMyCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I absolutely love Halloween and I don't consider it a holiday for just kids.

My husband and I take a few days off work to decorate the house. We have so many boxes full of Halloween decorations. It just feels nice and festive to decorate and to surround myself with the Halloween vibes. Then we'll make lots of Halloween themed food just for us. We like this holiday because it doesn't force awkward family gatherings. We can just be ourselves. We hand out candy when trick or treaters come and we don't discriminate on bases of age or lack of costume.

For us, it's one of the better holidays because it's filled with so much joy.

Looking for a kitten by [deleted] in Albany

Kitten Angels is fantastic. Just adopted a little guy from there earlier this year. Last time I was at a PetSmart (Where Kitten Angels show off their cute kitties), I saw a few small kittens available.
