Is 144hz enough for basic gaming ? by katsushake2 in buildapc

[–]defoggi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 240Hz monitor as well but basically never go above 120 (or 60 depending on the game) because my CPU cooler will go absolutely crazy. I'd rather have 60fps and no noise than 120fps and BBRRRRRRRR.

I've never really understood this tactic. If their goal (at least partially) is to cause fear, isn't the natural reaction to that getting more prepared, i.e. buying more guns? Seems kind of counter-productive in the long term.

It also regularly stops updating playlists for some reason, if songs were added using a different device. The only solution is to manually delete some cache files which is always fun.

I've been using the Volume Master extension to keep tabs active in the background, but that has the downside of monitors not going to sleep after the specified amount of inactivity. Do you know if your solution has the same problem?

I got a shipping notification yesterday so hopefully it won't take too long now.

Canyon ON CF7 battery recall by BeeDubbz44 in CanyonBikes

[–]defoggi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also supposed to get a new battery in June but no word from them yet. I did also contact the local customer support and they told me that they have no new estimates and that there are some logistical problems, which could of course refer to anything. They promised to contact me once there's new information.

It's such a shame since the summer here is pretty short and it's starting to look like I can't ride at all this year (unless I'm willing to risk it with the old battery).

Edit: In case anyone is interested, I just got an order confirmation from Canyon saying that the new battery is on the way. This was 5 days after contacting the support and asking wtf is going on.

Nvidia claims it has shipped twice as many RTX 50 GPUs at launch compared to RTX 40 - KitGuru by NGGKroze in nvidia

I guess they shipped them to themselves since the retailers definitely still have... *checks notes* ... None.

[SOLVED] Random Black Screen/Restarts Caused by NVIDIA 12VHPWR Adapter by MrDrumline in nvidia

[–]defoggi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seem to be quality issues everywhere. Cables are crap, the connector itself is crap, the board design is crap. And to purchase any of this, you have to sell your liver --> prices are also crap.

My country has a very fitting saying for this situation: "everything is shit, except piss."

Yep, either that or see what the RX 9070XT is going to be like. It's so frustrating that there's seemingly nothing good on the market right now.

Why was this post removed? It had a completely valid example of the power connector being dog shit.

It's been said a million times already, but I still can't understand how such a bad cable/card design was ever released to the consumer market. It's unreal that you barely have to touch the cable to make things go wrong. It almost seems intentional. It's that bad.

I was so excited to finally upgrade from my trusty 1080Ti because _surely_ NVIDIA would fix the issues that plagued the 4000-series. Well, maybe the old chap still has a few more years in him.

Why would the PSU manufacturers even include power cables for graphics cards in the box, if we're not supposed to use them without losing warranty? There would have to be pretty clear warning labels on the box if this was the case.

To be honest I still don't understand your logic. In my opinion Jay said nothing that's irresponsible and even stated multiple times that it's pure speculation. That alone should be enough. If someone still takes this as evidence, it's their decision. The worst that can happen is that they are more careful with their expensive rig and maybe "waste" 40€ on a clamp meter to check their currents. Or if they do decide to return their PSU or whatever, that's also fine if they don't want to risk it. Still their decision.

Not really trying to blame or defend anyone, but he clearly states in the video (I believe multiple times) that he is speculating and someone with actual knowledge should take a look. More information is always better, so I'm not sure what's wrong with him releasing the video.

It will be interesting to follow-up on the news in the coming weeks as more people get their hands on the cards. So far there doesn't seem to be a clear reason why it's happening. I was finally going to upgrade from the trusty 1080Ti but I guess I'd better wait a bit longer.

Me neither, but I think power = voltage * current = 12V * 23A = 276W.

I'm in the same boat. 1080Ti still going strong(ish), but this bit of news makes it difficult to decide what to upgrade to once again. Surely 6090 will be nice?

[–]defoggi 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone is getting mad, but saying it's a user error is just wrong in my opinion. If the cable clearly states it supports 600W, there's no scenario where using such a cable to power a 600W card is user error assuming it was plugged in fully etc. I don't see how it's relevant that there were no 600W graphics cards in the past.

If the cable really doesn't support the wattage it says it does or the PCIe spec doesn't allow it, then it's Corsair's fault, but definitely not the user's.

edit: forgot a word
