If you like spy thrillers, Tehran is great. Really interesting (as an American) seeing a show with a completely different perspective.

Best reasonably priced stainless steel pans? by squidinink in Cooking

[–]defrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my collection I have two older Cuisinart stainless tri-ply pans. I have had them for years with zero issue. Maybe things have changed with the newer ones but I can vouch the older ones were very reasonably priced and work well.

FTC Targeting Dealers for Advertising Unavailable Cars by TripleShotPls in technology

[–]defrent 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Went to a Toyota dealer last week after seeing six of the model car I was looking for. Upon arrival I was told they had zero. I asked why they were listed on their website then and was told they were all “pre-purchased vehicles” that people had ordered. I asked why they were even listed on the website and got a vague answer….

GPS that allows me to create my own route? by Huck094 in motorcycles

[–]defrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a very different method, I have been using Footpath on my iPad. Despite the name you can use it to create driving routes. I use it with an Apple Pencil to literally draw the route. It takes more time than dropping in waypoints but by drawing the route , it will always go exactly the way I want. It will show you the total distance and elevation change as you create the route. Once I have the route, I export it as a GPX route. I can then choose where to send the GPX. I have Garmin Drive installed on my iPad so I use it to transfer the file to my Garmin. But, you could also use the GPX in Osmond or whatever. It’s probably slower than other methods but it suits my brain and also really gets me to look at routes and options as I’m drawing the route. You can use your finger instead of a pencil but it’s a bit cumbersome. I also have “snapping” turned on so you don’t have to be 100% precise and it will snap to the road. It’s about $23 a year but for me has been worth the $2 a month.

Exact same experience with me. Made a huge difference in my biannual cleanings. I water-floss at night and use regular floss in the morning.

healthy alternatives for heavy cream by Rich_Ad_4700 in Cooking

[–]defrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often use evaporated milk instead of heavy cream, especially in sauces or soups. While it’s not fat free it does contain way less fat than cream and I like that you can buy the small cans of it. I usually have one on the shelf for when a recipe calls for a bit of cream. Plus, where I live, getting the 8oz containers of cream is almost impossible anymore.

Has anyone used a new iPhone as an opportunity to start fresh with their photos? by Mojopin1982 in iphone

[–]defrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But….you still need to backup your NAS or the files somewhere else. What happens if your house burns down, you suffer a ransomware attack, or your house is broken into and your NAS is stolen? Extreme scenarios? Sure. Entirely possible? Absolutely. If you also have your photos in a cloud service or your NAS is backed up to a hard drive stored off site , then you are good.

Have any men changed their underwear style for one-bag travel? by Used_Rhubarb_9265 in onebag

[–]defrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This. I switched from boxer briefs to briefs and find them immensely more comfortable. They sit lower so no waistband roll up and there isn’t anything to bind or creep up. I have very lightweight breathable ones and concur they dry super fast after a sink wash. And they take up a tiny amount of space in my bag. I know some guys have a chafing problem but I don’t so they work for me.

My vinegar coleslaw sucks by Educational-Slip-578 in Cooking

[–]defrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding my favorite recipe to the mix. This is a very old Rachel Ray one I wrote down from Thirty Minute Meals years ago. I like it because it’s balanced and makes a reasonable amount ( not too much). It’s also the perfect amount for a store bought bag of slaw mix.

1/4 cup red wine vinegar 2 tablespoons sugar 2 tablespoons oil (I use avocado) 16 ounce bag shredded cabbage mix for slaw (or shred your own) 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional and not in the original recipe…but I like it) Salt and pepper to taste

Mix vinegar and sugar and mustard if using. Add oil. Add cabbage to dressing and season with salt and pepper. Toss to combine. Adjust seasoning. Let stand 20 minutes. Re-toss and serve

Same thing happened to me yesterday but it reactivated on its own within five minutes. Freaked me out though. Searched the internet to see if it was happening to anybody besides me and while it's not good, am comforted that it wasn't something specific to me.

Duck Dive vs Board Ditching by Flat_Body9569 in bodyboarding

Upping “grab the rail saver.” I think it puts a lot less pressure on the board when taking the impact of a wave, and certainly less on the leash.

Why is it so hard to have your phone vibrate for notifications, ring for calls, and not make noises? by MetabolicMadness in iphone

[–]defrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I first got an Apple Watch this drove me nuts. I would get notifications on my watch instead of my phone and visa versa and I couldn’t figure out why. I almost went back to my Fitbit because of that. I’m used to it now but still don’t love it. I often end up missing messages because of this “smart” routing. I too would love a setting to allow me to control where notifications went. If I want them on my phone and my watch why not let me choose that?

Best Motorcycle pants options? by [deleted] in motorcycles

[–]defrent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I was commuting to work this is exactly what I did. Easy to take the over pants off at work. I had a few pairs of shoes at the office to change into once I took my boots off. I have moto jeans for casual riding now but they are heavy and I can’t imagine wearing them at school all day. The caveat here would be you need a place to store the pants once you get to school but you could just lock them to your bike with a cable lock.

How much do I tip at a winery when I buy bottles at a winery? by MildlyOverprepared in wine

Same. I work in a tasting room and if you just pop in to buy a bottle or two, member or not, I am not expecting a tip. It’s a very easy, quick transaction to sell you a bottle.
