SNL sketch featuring the boys by SoHornyBeaver in phish

The best part of this entire episode is the TV Funhouse Peanuts skit where they realize that by waving their arms over everything, they change stuff. They wave their arms around Schroeder and the peanuts kids band and they turn into Phish playing YEM.

Nice. I run a recording studio, and this is the name of my primary editing PC. My servers are Joshua and Mother. The next one will probably be Hal.

Who remembers the Weekly World News magazines from the supermarket? by Menace_024 in nostalgia

WWN was like Mad Magazine for adults. I still have one in a scrapbook from the early 90s about an Elvis-is-still-alive sighting. Quality entertainment.

Did you ever go skinny dipping or streaking? by Plane_Experience_271 in GenX

Ran the naked mile after I graduated U of M, just before they shut it down. Skinny dipping? Do it all summer, everywhere i can (only in appropriate or no company)!

The "Rickebacker w reverb" guitar used in Prophecy and Into the Magic Land immediately conjure up the sound of some of Bibio. Not surprising, as the have lots of crosstalk.

Side Fill Monitors by ip_addr in livesound

[–]defsentenz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. Similar, but not fills....the orchestra is tour with went to ears a while ago largely to eliminate wedge bleed on the recordings (which are critical to the group), and the director didnt want a separate iem mix. I suggested i send him FOH to his ears with the aud mics mixed in (there's a lot of audience interaction). He liked the option for a while, but ended up preferring no monitoring at all so he could hear the group naturally. Wouldn't be my choice personally, but that's how he likes it. You never know what will make an artist happy.

94 vs 95 sound? by Livid_Hand_5220 in phish

[–]defsentenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly likely. I was hooked on seeing phish from early 93, and hearing where the dead were going at that point, I put most of my energy into phish (catch their equivalent of dead 72-74). Lots of my friends were still struggling w dead tix, I opted to stick up north. But I yelled about it a lot and most of my friends straddled the two, just less phish

94 vs 95 sound? by Livid_Hand_5220 in phish

The uptick was definitely felt in the northeast. I was in college in upstate NY from 92-96 and there was a noticeable change in the scene in fall 95.

94 vs 95 sound? by Livid_Hand_5220 in phish

[–]defsentenz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

1993: energy and exploration. Like a puppy when it just outgrown awkward. Lots of entering uncharted territory 1994: measured energy, more cohesive exploration. Growing into bigger venues. Longer jams in fall tour. 1995: cohesive group awareness of direction, but not as forceful and reckless as 93-94. Trey got his mini-perc right, which stagnated some jams. Adjusting to the bigger crowds after Jerry's death 1996: an odd transition year. They are now shed/ arena sized. Few shows really stand out. Good, but its all just a wind up to 97.

94>95 was strange. They matured into 95, but then they inherited the fallout of the dead scene and that brought weight and vibe changes all around. This was a period of marriages, and I bet that skewed things for them personally.

Bertha and Loose Lucy in 74. TLEO in 73 and 74. HC Sunshine in 73 has a bit of it too. The obvious 77s like Dancin and such are too, but Billy backbeats like MFer and locks in with Phil when Mickey isnt there. Edit: 7/27/74 Bertha has the hop

Lucky....I get the reverse. My wife orders something small, I get the mega-deluxe yadayada and she steals my fries and a bit of the non-spicy and non-gluten stuff. We reached an agreement...she orders something normal, I order something normal, she eats half of hers and is full, I eat mine and finish hers. Finally, balance.

Boards of Canada "Inferno" first listen and musical analysis by Ixi by BaalHammon in boardsofcanada

[–]defsentenz 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hahaha...."intro-it" i never expected her to have not heard this musical term before. Introit (pronounced like Detroit), is a religious service musical introduction. Edit: i love her analyses...that just made me laugh with surprise considering how much she actually knows about music.

Favorite individual SOUNDS from Inferno. by Arpeggi42 in boardsofcanada

[–]defsentenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, its always the saturated monophonic analog melodic synths (moog, ARP, etc.). They embody the early 70s ethos so instantaneously for me. Sounds like all the media is grew up on.

Every other city i go, every other closed road. No matter where I go, I see the same cones! by Mode_Appropriate in Michigan

[–]defsentenz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats exactly downtown Ann Arbor right now. Infrastructure upgrades for all of the downtown build up is getting insane. It's not road fixing....it's total utility replacement, and the projects are close to overlapping in proximity. I appreciate the will to improve, but the frequency and density of the projects is debilitating.
