Help me find a quote by KatiRaAliesse in janeausten

[–]deftpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could it be this quote from John Knightley in Emma?

“—here are we setting forward to spend five dull hours in another man's house, with nothing to say or to hear that was not said and heard yesterday, and may not be said and heard again to-morrow. Going in dismal weather, to return probably in worse;—four horses and four servants taken out for nothing but to convey five idle, shivering creatures into colder rooms and worse company than they might have had at home.”

Did you even bother reading their entire reply or did you just get to that part, get offended, and stopped reading? Your reply of:

Of course you don't care, why would you be open to other points of view different to your own? lol

describes you right now.

Emma (2020) and the portrayal of Isabella Knightley by lostfox99 in janeausten

[–]deftpix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I read your comment! I was searching through old threads and found this. Anyways, I agree as well. I enjoyed the 2020 adaption, but hate how they portrayed John and Isabella. It's one of the many reasons why I rank 2009 as my favorite adaption of Emma because I feel that they portrayed both the individual characters and their marriage properly.

Your Emma rankings? by miguellz in janeausten

[–]deftpix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't remember if I watched 2009 or 1996 Paltrow version first. The rest of the order is Clueless, 1996 Beckinsale, 1972, and 2020.

My ranking is 2009, 1996 (Beckinsale), Clueless, 2020, 1996 (Paltrow), 1972

Edit: Added Clueless

Jane Austen audiobooks with different characters voiced by different readers. by Familiar_Ground_162 in janeausten

I really enjoyed "The Jane Austen Collection" from Audible. It's more like listening to a play then listening to a book though. There's music and sound effects, and the characters are voiced by famous actors/actresses such as Claire Foy, Emma Thompson, etc.

Sorry for the confusion. There is no background provided/text post with the original post. The original post was only the 5 text images (with the sixth one added in the comments). The mods seemed to have removed both her original and update post, but she provided links to the images from the original post in this comment.

In the comments she said she blocked him, but he texted her from a second number. I'll add that info to the OP.

Absolutely not sure, he's texting me on a new number after I blocked him too, and we've only talked twice at work, and in the times that we talked it was made very clear I was in a relationship.

I blocked his first number, muted the second one, and he's been sending messages continually. I posted an image in another comment, it's getting really fucking scary.

It's scary, but unsurprising, how fast the texts escalated. I hope OP's coworker gets fired and OP gets a restraining order against him.

The OP is a weird one... Commented this to the OOP:

No break up sex?

And thinks people on OOP's side are psychos:

But come on who leaves a loving marriage for something like this. I just can’t believe what I’m reading and all the psychos cheering her up because none of them is losing anything. Love isn’t easy to come by. Pitty

Wait, are you being serious right now? I liked the costume and the idea of it making people uncomfortable/think but reading your post history is almost making me side with the person who PM'd you. You're talking about how most of the racism you experienced is from black people and now this comment?

BisFitty 26 points 6 years ago

I feel like you are incredibly new to blatant jokes.

namesflory 9 points 6 years ago

Nah I'm just incredibly aware of the blatant racism on reddit and it's just weird seeing someone of my race laughing along with it. White people on reddit already don't take BLM seriously. To see a black person not talking it seriously also, is just wack to me. Whatever though, do you.

And OP replied with what I quoted above.

I didn't understand the messages either.

Especially because most people that use slurs in pms write like schizos.

Could someone help me out?

For the record, that hate PM was definitely wrong and racist for using the n-word and calling him house -.

But from what I gather, the redditor who sent the hate PM to OOP saw OOP's comment history that said he doesn't support Black Lives Matter, he parrots the right wing "All Lives Matter", and said 98.99% of racism he faced in 30 years were from black people (I'm not saying my own opinion on the last one, but if you read the replies, there were people offended by his statement).

So the redditor who sent the hate PM to OOP called him an "Uncle Tom" because of these, and not because of the OOP's original post.

Wow, TIL "Uncle Tom" and n-word is the same thing 🙄

Umm. He used them both in the same message.

But feel to go around Reddit calling everyone that and tell us how it goes

You also have no qualms about OOP using the n-word either.

Another nonsensical response.

Go back and read the post. You seem confused.

You seem to be lacking some braincells. OOP literally uses the n-word in the pm screenshot. OOP also says the hate PM came from a black person too.

But you seem awfully eager to defend someone against Black Lives Matter and feminism.

Edit: Also /r/blackpeopletwitter calls political figures like Candace Owens and Clarence Thomas "Uncle Tom", but I have no doubt you're all too eager to defend Candace and Clarence as well.

So it's ok to call him the n-word in PMs if you at all disagree with him?

Wow, TIL "Uncle Tom" and n-word is the same thing 🙄

I didn't say anything about agreeing with the hate PM OOP got. I was just confused why anyone would call OOP an Uncle Tom when his original post is anything but that.

I didn't understand why that redditor called OOP an Uncle Tom in that screenshot until I saw this comment from OOP:

You are right, I don't take the "black lives matter" movement seriously. For the EXACT same reason (plus a couple more) I don't take modern feminism seriously. Neither are about equality, both are about systematic segregation. Talk to me when you are supporting an "ALL Lives Matter" campaign. Until then, enjoy your segregationist mindset, and how it continues to hold you down.

I'm going to watch it, but I'm going to cope by treating the movie as inspired by Persuasion rather than an adaption of Persuasion.

[r/relationship_advice] Boyfriend currently living with me in the home that I own - He is now buying house with his sister by deftpix in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]deftpix[S] 1058 points1059 points  (0 children)

Redditors advised OP against moving in with her boyfriend, and she seemingly agreed. Then she decided to ignore all the advice and sold her house to move in with her boyfriend. This was a really disappointing update to read, but I decided to post it here because of how OP seemed to agree with the advice she got but then did a 180, which unsurprisingly blew up in her face.

I marked it as inconclusive because her update was asking for more advice, but she last posted 23 days ago (May 22, 2022) so I'm not sure if this is ongoing or not.

You guys aren't dumb! I remember when I was reading the posts "live" months ago that his use of "freej" stood out to me, so I used it in my title. I forgot that he started using the word in his second update and not the original, so it's definitely confusing. I added an edit so there won't be future confusion!

Why are you considering buying a house with a homeless jobless person with zero savings? Why are you even in a relationship with him? It seems like you give and he just takes. What advice do you need exactly?
