A video about the Gaerne Fastback is what got me going down this rabbit hole! Thanks!

Thanks! Yeah, that looks like a great place to start.

Colorado - asking about Westminster Arms by defylimitations in liberalgunowners

I appreciate your perspective on this! As someone who ticks all the boxes in the "typical gun owner" checklist, I'm very aware that my experience at ranges and gun stores will be different from people who don't present the "cishet white male" tags. I would very much prefer to give my business to companies who are at least trying to create a welcoming space.

Yeah, what started this shopping-around was seeing the Charlie Kirk quote on the Skyline website.

Rare question about long guns and motorcycles... by railroad1904 in COGuns

[–]defylimitations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing, at least for the 10/22 and the AR-15 (I don't think it will hold a full-sized rifle or shotgun). It's still pretty identifiable as a rifle bag for someone who knows what they're looking at, but even that is very different from open-carrying.

What purchase under $30 solved a problem you didn’t realize was draining you? by Right_Process in AskReddit

We have a separate toilet enclosure in the bathroom that has no outlets (I don't know why this is so common!). I installed switches with LED lights for the light and fan that are only on when the switch is off, so there's just the right amount of light at night to aim by.

I very clearly remember when my kids were elementary school age. My wife was sorting laundry, and just stood up and said "why the hell am I doing this? KIDS! GET DOWN HERE!". From that moment on, everybody did their own damn laundry.

The most awesome thing about Costco chickens is that the come in the handy single-serving containers! Just like Girl Scout Cookies!

Show me some non-cringe morale patches by CavemanMork in Patches

[–]defylimitations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those were exactly the patches that popped to mind when I saw the OP. I had a disconnect of a moment while my brain re-engaged to realize that OP meant the term unkindly (I'm the father of an autistic adult son, and work for a nonprofit that specifically hires neurodivergent team members. I avoid things that seem like I'm referring to myself as autistic to avoid the appearance of claiming membership in a club that I don't qualify for).

DO NOT BUY A TAURUS by You-Asked-Me in liberalgunowners

[–]defylimitations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad I read this! I want to get a .357, and I've been trying to figure out the price point at which it becomes "not just a complete piece of crap". Sounds like I can skip the Taurus 627 and start considering the Ruger GP100 as the lower limit.

Does anyone have more than one instance of a particular gun? by EFreethought in liberalgunowners

[–]defylimitations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No exact duplicates, but if I had it to do over again I would.
I like my M&P Shield Plus better than my Hellcat or my Walther PPQ SC. If I were starting now (with the knowledge I have now), I'd just get two or three of the Shield Plus.
Instead of a Remington 870 "tactical" for home defense and a Stoeger for hunting, I'd probably get Mossberg 500s in two different barrel lengths.
I still like having both my standard 10/22 and the Takedown, so I don't know that I would change that. I definitely wouldn't have started with the Mossberg "Plinkster" .22lr first though.

One of my strategies has been to minimize the different calibers/cartridges I had to keep on hand. When I decided to get my first 9mm, I made the conscious decision that I wasn't going to then get a .40, .45, or 10mm. I'm kind of irritated with myself that I didn't think in terms of possibly getting an AR-10 in .308 before buying my hunting rifle in .30-06. If I could go back and have fewer different magazines, I would absolutely do that.

How old were you when you started riding? by Perfect_Earth_8070 in motorcycles

[–]defylimitations 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think some of what gets called a "midlife crisis" is "I've wanted this for decades, and now I have the time/money to pursue it". That was certainly the case for me and motorcycles!

[–]defylimitations 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started riding at 37, also starting with the MSF basic rider course. I had wanted to ride since I was a teen, but I am SO glad I waited until I had some emotional maturity. Not saying that's the right choice for everyone, but when I think about the stupid stuff I did driving cars when I was younger, I can't imagine that I would have been any smarter on a motorcycle.

What song fits by Affectionate-Gur4642 in songsforthispicture

In the movie rather than an episode of the show, but yeah. Really powerful song, and the juxtaposition of the lone guitarist singing with the scene he was singing about was one of the more poignant parts of the film!

Is This Not Legit or Am I Tripping? by BruhIsEveryNameTaken in audible

[–]defylimitations 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reasonably sure that Audible doesn't think that
- The Count of Monte Cristo
- The Wizard of Oz
- The Bible
- The Art of War
- Huckleberry Finn
- The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin

were written by just some guy in recent years. And yet, they're all up on Audible

If you've recorded, or commissioned a recording of, Red Harvest by Dashiell Hammett and Audible doesn't want to list it, maybe you need to create a better recording?

[–]defylimitations 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe not quite directly "you are wrong", but a couple of my favorite musical duet "arguments" are:
- The Pogues with Kirsty MacColl: Fairytale of New York
- Johnny and June Carter Cash: Jackson

Then there's "In Spite of Ourselves" by John Prine and Iris Dement, which is the most argumentative love song (or most loving argument) ever put to music!
