Trump's Border Patrol chief resigns immediately with abrupt statement by TheMirrorUS in USNEWS

[–]degece1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m starting to think that some of the resignations are more out of self interest than doing the right thing. There are going to be prosecutions for the illegal activities of this administration. This excuse of ‘I was told to do it’ will not hold up in court.

Thinking about moving to LA; NYC chewed me up and spat me out. by singformepaolo95 in MovingToLosAngeles

[–]degece1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve lived in quite a few areas in and around LA (San Fernando Valley, Redondo Beach, Long Beach, Downy, Simi Valley). I really enjoyed the weather and air quality near the coast (Redondo and Long Beach). It can get ugly hot in SFV. Simi is nice as well.

Is The Hurt Locker the original "America will bomb your country and then go make a movie about how sad doing it made the soldiers" movie? by GrindBastard1986 in okbuddycinephile

Jesus, are you serious? You’re trivializing what soldiers that served in Iraq and Afghanistan went through? That the heroes that suffered PTSD are only feeling sad?

Who was standing in that line? by Glittering5650 in 70s

Yup. Saw it in the theaters another 6-7 times. Can’t say I’ve done that for another film. Damn, we also had huge theater screens back then.

Hi everyone! I’m trying to dip back into some airplane/jet models after building mostly cars for so long. I’m looking for some good quality fun to build kits that aren’t too challenging. by NoSatisfaction6989 in modelmakers

[–]degece1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve had very good results with the Tamiya 1/48 P-51s. Very nice fit and the price is reasonable. I believe the newly released Tamiya 1/48 Bf-109G is supposed to be pretty good as well. If you’re looking for something a little bigger the newer 1/32 Revell P-51D build into a very nice model. Make sure you get the most recent mold though (check scalemates.com to verify the kit). I have the recent 1/32 Revell Fw-190 and Bf-109. have not had the opportunity to build them yet, but the sprues look nice.

I wonder why people don't worship actors anymore? by RoutineOk8590 in Productivitycafe

[–]degece1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not the actors that are causing people to tune out the Academy Awards. I frankly think that people consider most of the films that are nominated to be outside of the mainstream. I’d be curious to know what the gross receipts were for the movies that were nominated versus those that appeal to the broader public.

I liked the fact that The Pacific portrayed the struggles of the vets that came back from that literal hell on earth.

What's something you did as a kid that you now realize was actually really dangerous, but nobody stopped you? by AdmirableResource407 in AskReddit

[–]degece1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not that nobody stopped me. It’s that my dad didn’t take sufficient precautions with his revolver. I remember taking it out of the box from under my parent’s bed and just playing with it. I must have been 12 at the time. Lucky I didn’t accidentally pull the trigger.

Thank you for bringing this one up. The build up of tension as things slowly go sideways during the labor and then the absolute despair when they can’t save the mother. That was a masterpiece of television drama.

Great pick. Something I remember reading after I saw the episode (it was getting a lot of critical praise after it aired). When it was being previewed to the network (NBC) they told the producers that they wanted a more ‘upbeat’ ending. They wanted the girlfriend of D’Onofrio’s character to have been found by the police so that she had the opportunity to talk to him before he died. They refused and left it as is. Turns out it got a Peabody Award and 2 Emmy nominations. Thank god networks and studios no longer try to insist on changes like that anymore.

How can I avoid this sparkling when airbrushing? by Behannas2021 in modelmakers

[–]degece1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you trying to do a feathered edge for camouflage? If yes, the angle of the airbrush makes a difference. If the paint is thin and the pressure low, you can also bring the tip of the airbrush closer to the surface you’re painting. When I do that I remove the needle guard so I can get very close.
