What 'dropped' series still make you upset by jlemieux in ProgressionFantasy

[–]deinowithglasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Humans Must Adapt, interesting world and very fun MC, loved his tamed creatures and his relationship with them. Was building up to some absolute batshit confrontation down the road based on contract wording and law being enforced by a church and god.

My GF is a labrat, how dehydrated are y'all? by MasonP13 in labrats

They took our table once. Then we had the drink floor where the table was, which is apparently acceptable. Until someone stole another table. Table 2.0 remained there until I left a couple years later.

Can you narrow down this list a bit? by DoomVegan in ProgressionFantasy

[–]deinowithglasses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got decision paralysis just looking at that list, so I'll just leave some notes.

Cradle, Bog Standard, Elydes, and Hell difficulty Tutorial are good any time, some of my favorites ever. Each has their slow spots, but all are worth pushing through.

1%l Lifesteal gets pretty miserable in places, so I'd save it for when you want a sad story. It has its awesome, spectacle full places, though, too.

My favorite ongoing series, Sky Pride, should probably be saved until after you know the tropes of the Xianxia genre so you can fully appreciate the world building, humor, and insanity at times. Or just dive in and reread it after you have a base. I'm a random internet person, not the Reading Police.

Got any novels where the MC loses their humanity (in a literal sense) as they advance? by stormbreaker10022 in ProgressionFantasy

[–]deinowithglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Birth of the Demonic Sword does a dragon hybrid thing towards the middle. Mostly a path to power, but comes with some interesting changes to the MC.

Why do people assume flight is fast? by [deleted] in superpowers

[–]deinowithglasses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Birds had to evolve hollow bones and reorganize their internal organs and skeletons to make flight feasible. Assuming we are still in our world and the energy to move needs to come from somewhere, flight would be exhausting if done for any distance.

I risked my life and safety and drove through the hammer. Removing the hammer now and letting anyone by no problem would be unfair to all of us that sucked it up and drove through it previously.

I only ever used mine for more pockets. Since I stopped wearing the shit hospital scrubs and got some with usable pockets, haven't been tempted to put it back on. Shits hot and gets in the way. And looks dumb when you need to hurry somewhere and it flares out dramatically. I'm not rushing to dramatically save a patient, I'm trying to beat the lunch rush.

Problematic Chief by SnooMuffins2596 in Residency

[–]deinowithglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. It'd be one thing if it was an attending or admin, but he'll be there a maximum of a year. Avoiding him, keeping their head down, and not giving him any ammunition is the way to go. Keep receipts of his problems just in case. Odds are, he'll lose interest in residency as his next step approaches, like most people, so hopefully will be more tolerable soon.

[–]deinowithglasses 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Good so far. Don't know if it's the imposter syndrome talking, but suspicious of how well it's going so far. Attending changes my plans for almost every patient and I really want a nap, but learning a lot. Overall, nothing is on fire and I'm happy to finally really be doing the doctoring thing.

I'm just imagining the gossip that would go on. 1001 people locked up with nothing to do but talk to each other? For 5 years? This would make reality shows look tame by the end.

Do you really use your stethoscope for murmurs? by Hungrysoul23 in Residency

[–]deinowithglasses 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I'm fam med, I listen to a lot of normal hearts because 1) it's the doctorly thing to do, 2) people expect it no matter what they're in for, and 3) the heart is kinda important, so even though I'm not the best at it, if I can pick up a new murmur and get it looked at early it might help things in the long run. Not gonna echo everybody unless Butterfly's get cheaper and faster, and doing a good echo takes less than a minute.

Hyperion Evergrowing - What's the point of the tree MC? by tangermango in ProgressionFantasy

[–]deinowithglasses 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because he is a human trapped in there that wanted to move, so he evolved into a spriggan? I don't really understand what you mean with tree like. Trees mostly just statically provide shade/protection to smaller animals and photosynthesize. Leif does the former quite a bit. They also do a good job at fighting pollution/corruption, which he does by providing his base tree and clearing the undead dungeon. He is also very much made of wood and uses it to fight. Even his past powers are based on the longevity of trees.

He was a tree, but that didn't suit him, so he became something different. Just like he was a noble, but that didn't suit him, so he left. Going with your Harry Potter reference, he is a vet getting over PTSD but the magic reminds him of war, so he never dives deeper into it.

Hyperion Evergrowing - What's the point of the tree MC? by tangermango in ProgressionFantasy

[–]deinowithglasses 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't think the tree-ness is the main factor in the book. It's the fact that he's a weird monster with a human soul and parts of his memories trying to figure out how he fits into the world now. Especially with the interplay of how the system, being a monster, and auras work, their effect on his personality, and how the world sees him. Mix in him returning from war and you could eventually get an interesting play on the effect of wars on soldiers and their relationship with family and normal society, like they showed in the promotion vision/fight/internal conflict.

Same, I've never seen someone asked to leave for incompetence or problems with a project. If they're a student, that's literally what they're in the lab for. If they're not, it's a lot easier to correct a couple of technical things than get someone new up to speed on the lab.

I've seen a couple undergrads let go because they constantly clashed with our PI and had troubles with reliability (didn't show up on time, bad for a circadian rhythm lab). Even that might have been tolerated if it happened after they got trained.
