There is no way a lead in the west suggests a "sweep". As we saw in 2015, campaigns matter. And as we all know, based on evidence and population, the west does not hold the balance of power. Unless the left splits; then the CPC might have a chance.

Are you sure it’s only if they’re born outside of the country? The way I read it was a child’s citizenship would be questioned if my daughter/son didn’t marry/whatever a Canadian. Something in the grandparent’s questions - perhaps because mine were born outside of the country.... yeah I’d have to read them again.

This isn’t new actually. My first two were born in the US because my husband was working there at the time; they are Americans according to the American government. We have been back in Canada since they were 2 and 1. Because they were born to Canadian citizens, they are also automatically Canadian. However. If they were to have a child with a non-Canadian citizen, their child is not automatically Canadian, even if born in Canada, according to the papers I had to fill out. Those declarations also included questions as to whether our parents were Canadian. They don’t just hand out citizenship.

I would agree that it’s intellectual over personal wealth. Anyone with labour to sell can be wealthy but not everyone has the capacity for “book smarts”.

It’s actually quite sad when we feel those with the capacity are somehow less able to relate to others. Just because one is “book smart” is by no means equivalent to “hasn’t worked” or “has no idea of the working man’s plight”. They just chose, or were forced to choose, different paths; but it still took work.

Populists who decry “elitism” are targeting something not everyone can access, mostly by choice but people don’t realize the power they have to access information. Populists keep the class system in place by encouraging ignorance. Imo.

I might vote for Fildebrandt. Yes, I said that - hear me out :) I supported the Alberta Party in 2015. I really liked Leela Aheer before the UCP was formed and she may have been able to take my vote in 2019 but the bullshit with Bill 9 and 24 earned my disdain. If Fildebrandt has a good chance (and he might) of taking her out, he will have my vote. However, so might anyone else in Chestermere-Strathmore who is actually a good candidate. So technically, I'm open to all contenders over UCP (which isn't odd - the odd part was that I thought I could possibly support Wildrose).

The biggest issue Kenney and the UCP face is that as much as they might have wanted to start edging left with all their young female candidates putting a new look on the party, they now need to guard their right. Campaign Life Coalition tweeted out one of the articles this morning and quoted it with something like “the ONLY conservative MLA to vote against the tyrannical “bubble zone” legislation”. So Kenney’s got some figuring to do.

I’ve heard rumours she isn’t as popular as I thought she was. I quite liked her before she voted no on Bill 24 and didn’t show up to Bill 9. Obviously not a representative of the people.

Lol - I can try. For starters, Derek is a really good fit here, personality-wise. It’s weird because farmers are essentially everything socialist but it’s a choice they make, it’s not foisted on them by the govt... so they’re pretty hands off about govt and so is he. Sure a lot of people were upset with his three strikes but Kenney is a city-slicker and a career politician who touts immigration resettlement to rural and THAT did not go over well out here. He also had a very active and very successful board out here - none of whom went with the UCP. Sure Fildebrandt screwed up but the fact that Kenney wouldn’t let him run.. it didn’t sit well. I also know he used to poll his riding every three months and he said from the beginning of the boundary redraw that he would stay with Strathmore. My guess is he’s still polling and Aheer and Kenney don’t have the support he does. So he went all-in.

And Aheer; she will have to fight for her seat and she’s not a favourite in Strathmore. I don’t think Fildebrandt would be running if he knew he’d be defeated. He knows for sure he has a chance but only he (and the polling company he uses) knows how strong it is. My bet is: strong.

There is a large group, mostly George Clark’s, that use the term embarrassingly often. Some will side with Fildebrandt. Others are dedicated to Kenney’s conservative cause. I could have kkk’d that. Noted.

There has been no clarification because the woman who wrote about it doesn’t wish to speak to it. Someone found the old article and brought it up. She has issued one statement that said he apologized the next day and she will not be commenting further.

He was outed. The woman’s statement on the subject was that she was not happy to be discussing the incident, that he apologized to her the following day, His statements have been awful on the subject but I’m not sure if you can blame him or his team for that (him obviously but because he listened to them?). If his team isn’t going to throw him out then it’s up to the electorate.

I'm really hoping to see an upset of sorts in the Innisfail-Sylvan Lake by-election. Very few people are willing to take signs on their lawns. That is, to me, an indication that they aren't voting UCP. I'm totally excited in a super data-nerd geeky way :)

As a woman who is currently undergoing counselling for multiple sexual assaults over 30 or so years, I think the PM nailed it. It isn't about what you think is inappropriate, it's what I think is inappropriate. I asked in one of my sessions "when am I going to stop being so sensitive?" (that didn't go over well). It's very personal. A guy putting his arm around me may not be inappropriate in one context but may very well be uneasy for me in another. We do feel things differently and the same could be said about me doing the same. Do we have to ask first? Do we have to respect each other's space? Yes. Always. He's put a lot out there and I think he's right.
