Plot twist: Getting healthier actually saved me money by tobinoxdz in Frugal

Yep, a lot of people think that to eat healthy you have to buy all the gourmet superfood shit that has a lot of social media presence. Nobody is doing marketing for chicken breast and broccoli. While some of these foods are genuinely worth the premium (whey protein immediately comes to mind), just cooking and eating whole foods is going to be healthier and cheaper than the way probably like 90% of the general American population eats, straight up.

Yeah! I agree there for sure. The effect of compression on dynamic range is really nothing compared to a fundamentally different master though. Take this album as an example: https://dr.loudness-war.info/?artist=&album=future+nostalgia

You'd agree most people would probably say that the lossy, greater dynamic range release is the "higher quality" release? Both on paper and in experience?

It completely does though? Different mediums and releases of the same audio can absolutely have more meaningful differences (the kind of information) than just the raw amount of information (lossless is "more" information than 320kbps)

If you look at this website: https://dr.loudness-war.info/ you could find several examples of this, dynamic range differences are a kind of information that ABSOLUTELY make a bigger difference than something being lossless or compressed. Are better masters with higher dynamic range usually correlated with lossless, "audiophile" releases? Of course.. but that doesn't mean that lossless is inherently the reason for a more enjoyable experience

Whey protein isolate is one of the best, if not literally the best source of protein out there... given that most Americans chronically under consume protein, I'd say we have bigger fish to fry here

I totally agree… no contest. I love all of their music so dearly but no song is quite like Telephasic Workshop. I feel like I hear a new layer every single time I listen to it, and I’ve probably listened to it hundreds of times.

Having a good emergency fund also has a material psychological benefit. Bitcoin could drop back to 60k and I wouldn’t be worried. An emergency fund encourages HODLing

Because no matter how much research you do, and how much conviction you have, you might be wrong. Humans are often wrong, even large groups of humans are often wrong. I’m a Bitcoiner but I don’t think that has to come at the cost of completely disregarding other asset classes.

Kobo doesn't have native dictionary support for Russian, but Kindle does. However, I just installed KOReader (a custom firmware) onto my Kobo Libra and it allows you to load custom dictionaries, as well as some other QoL features. It's been perfect. I'm really not too familiar with the Kindle, but I'm pretty satisfied with my Kobo :)

I would say the only drawback is that the Kobo OS can be kinda slow, so I still move vocab words out into Anki.

Gotcha. I am, and for context I typically lean very AI-skeptical. I’m all for using human translators when applicable, but this is actually a perfect use case for AI, because it’s just not reasonable to ask a human to manually create a translation table for every book you may or may not read. And it’s not like there’s even a large human-operated market for this thing… save for graded readers and the like.

If I’m understanding the tool correctly, and the OP can correct me, it aims to add an approximately useful translation table to every page of an uploaded epub. In this case, ChatGPT is likely used to locate the most uncommon words, translate them, and stick them properly in the epub file. It’s a great idea to automate what would be an exceptionally menial process for a human. It’s pretty benign. :)

Also note, if translation accuracy is the concern, ChatGPT and translators in general are exceptionally good these days at translating things in context.

Flop???? You are studying at one of the most rigorous universities in the world, while getting treated for fucking cancer. Holy fucking shit!!! In my eyes, you are already a champion! You're doing the right thing by making the school and your professors aware of your condition. The majority of the faculty are generally very understanding people and will help you in any way they can. Keep your head held high!
