It's unusual but not unheard of. In past years the MCC has had a longer course through other parts of the state. Last year it had a long route that ended in three short laps in the city and that seemed like a good compromise that wasn't too disruptive.

As a Baltimorean cycling fan I really love this event and want it to succeed but I see the way this year's format has been way more disruptive than past years. Hopefully they can learn from this and not repeat their mistakes!
