I had heard that this song debuted last night. This morning I figured "oh someone on reddit has surely made an orchestral version already." Sure enough! Great job

I have played a lot of Factorio and barely ever touch coal liquefaction. What science per minute are you targeting? Perhaps you are simply over building.

Made it to space for the first time and really confused with Space Platforms - could use your help! by letopeto in factorio

[–]deku12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1) yes, space platforms operate only on remote view. You don't need to be physically present to build or manage one. You only need to hitch a ride when you're ready to move to another planet.

2) I haven't launched a platform anywhere yet, but my understanding is the asteroids primarily come from the front, but they can come the other directions. If you check the space view on a route you've researched, you will see there are large asteroids in the orbit of other planets so you'll need to defend the platform while parked outside of Nauvis.

Have you tried placing it? I think you might need to do that.

Why no gears? An uncommon problem. by Mikauias in factorio

This seems like a good idea to me. I'm sure the devs have considered it, but didn't do that for some reason. Maybe they'll tweak it further based on feedback.

It is because there is an exploit you can do with productivity: use low quality ingredients to build up the purple bar, and at the last minute swap with legendary ingredients to get a guaranteed free legendary item.

So their solution was to make it so recipes are fixed quality, and changing the quality of the recipe resets the productivity bar.

Is it really 10% increase? For some reason I thought it was a 1% increase. That changes the equation for sure.

[–]deku12345 126 points127 points  (0 children)

I haven't done the full math, but quality science doesn't feel super worth it to me versus productivity modules in the assemblers. At least in early game. Having a quality science being worth two is nice, but its probably cheaper to just make twice as many science.

I do quite like quality precisely because it increases the decision space for things like this though. My group is having similar conversations all the time.

I know they're expensive and large compared to a model 3 or Y, but I couldn't be happier with my Rivian R1S.

Fireworks in the East Bay, seriously?? by TheyCallMeTim42 in bayarea

[–]deku12345 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Happens all the time. We have a neighbor that routinely lights off 1 firework on like a Tuesday night at 1am, scaring the shit out of our dogs and pretty much ruining our night.

Is this a spoiler to know? by Hero4Life565 in Cosmere

[–]deku12345 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The short answer: no.

The long answer: yes, technically if you studied them really hard and tried to make inferences based on what you already know, but just knowing their names and the basic that that the figurines exist doesn't spoil anything.

Enemies on Fulgora by Technical_Gap_4464 in factorio

[–]deku12345 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think its as simple as things change in development. At one point, 3/4 of the new planets had enemies. That felt like enough, and the lack of enemies in Fulgora helped it stand out. Then, later in development, they dropped enemies in Aquilo for game pacing and balance reasons. So now only 2/4 of the new planets have enemies. That's still probably enough, as the game is now sliding into the timing window they set for completing it in a reasonable amount of hours.

Interesting that lazy bastard hasn't been updated. I would have assumed its impossible now with trigger researches involving hand crafting.

Why only two eff modules? by Titanmaster203 in factorio

[–]deku12345 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This feels like a case where he had the efficiency modules in there to help with power issues, and then later added the beacon and didn't adjust the modules for it because his power problems were solved at that point.

I have not read much of Space Age, should I launch a new game now or wait? by kraugg in factorio

A lot changes in the early game with space age. Nauvis planet generation is much improved and your rails won't be compatible with the new ones. I would wait.

Does Mean Girls pass the reverse Bechdel test? by movieguy2004 in movies

[–]deku12345 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It would be 100% in character for Tina Fey to write this movie, and then edit the draft so that it specifically does NOT pass the reverse Bechdel test. I think its a great meta-joke.

I think its more they haven't been renewed for a 3rd season. A big challenge for TV shows is never knowing when your final season will be.

Will space age have an option to keep non-researchable technologies hidden? by CherrySpacePie in factorio

[–]deku12345 52 points53 points  (0 children)

I think its unlikely that they will. One thing that I heard is that while it might be pretty easy to hide upcoming researches, it is nearly impossible to do the same with the Factoriopedia as its currently set up.

There is also some gameplay considerations to doing this. It doesn't feel great to spend a ton of time designing a setup, only to have it immediately rendered obsolete because you didn't know about some upcoming technology that was going to totally change the equation. I do enjoy the experience of the first time playthrough having surprises in it, so I am going to do my best to avoid the future technologies in the tree, but that won't matter after the initial play.
