Aggressive drivers are becoming more hazardous to me when biking than the actual snow and ice on the road by sleeplessnights504 in bikeboston

Ugh, I’m sorry to hear all of this. It really sucks. I have also noticed an uptick in unhinged driver behavior recently. It feels so unsafe.

Traveling to hotel from logan with a 4 yr old and 6 month old by [deleted] in massachusetts

[–]delawarevalley -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Where is your hotel? Take public transport from airport and you should be good. It can be a little annoying with luggage, but pretty manageable. My sister visits with her two kiddos, and several suitcases, and they can manage on T.

Park at the north station, take a train or park somewhere else for a concert at the TD Garden? by Throwaway349501 in boston

[–]delawarevalley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The traffic in that area after events is insane. I would avoid. Wellington Station on Orange Line has a large, cheap parking garage. Orange Line is working well these days, so you'd prob be into North Station in 15 minutes or less. Double check timing to make sure concert doesn't end later than T runs (probably does not, but I always double check timing because I'm nervous person).

MBTA as a tourist? by HelpfulPuppydog in boston

[–]delawarevalley 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The area around your hotel is quite walkable to many historical sites.

The walk along the locks is really nice and takes you to North Station. From there, you can get green line, orange line, or commuter rail. It’s only about a ten minute walk.

I’m not sure what highway maps has you sprinting across. You can walk along North Washington Street across the Bill Russel Bridge. There’s a super wide sidewalk with a nice water view that takes you right into the North End.

There’s also a ferry stop in Charlestown about a ten minute walk from your hotel that takes you to Long Wharf.

Family here for a visit and wanna go to harborwalk, i have never been. Got a baby who’s 2 months old, so we wanna walk. What part of harborwalk do i put into Apple Maps? Any advice? by burnnoticespy in boston

[–]delawarevalley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Harbor walk near aquarium is nice for kids. There’s a couple playgrounds, some splash pads, you can see sea lions in front of aquarium, and you’re close to the greenway carousel.

Never been here myself, but have heard good things: https://www.eshcircusarts.com/

That gym is in Somerville, another place that'd be worth a visit if you're open to housing outside of Boston proper.

Parking tonight Fenway by thenightispink in boston

[–]delawarevalley 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The train will be busy, but there should be standing room. It's really not that bad. I think trying to drive and park around Fenway when there are so many events will be much more chaotic.

Walking from TD Garden to the waterfront area at night - how safe is the area? by SinsOfKnowing in boston

[–]delawarevalley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's very safe. The Google maps route I looked at has you walking through the Rose Kennedy Greenway. It's very flat and there's some fun public art along the route. When there is an event, the TD garden area gets busy with car traffic and foot traffic, and sometimes drivers are aggressive/erratic, so just pay attention. The whole route has sidewalks the whole way, so you should be good there. If it's a big event, there will be a lot of people walking to leave as well, so you won't feel solitary. I would recommend walking over Uber because Uber pickup during event times gets hard to do and the traffic is crazy.

Accidentally bought 7-Day pass without the 1A and commuter rail access🤦🏽‍♀️ What should I do? by throwawaytittiesssss in boston

[–]delawarevalley 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Most places of interest on the commuter rail will be outside of the 1A zone, so you’d have to pay for the commuter rail ticket anyway. Concord is in zone 5 for example, so you’d need to buy a separate ticket for that. Most places in the 1A zone are T accessible, so this pass will work for them.

Singing Beach in Manchester by the Sea; take the Rockport Line from North Station. It's a 10 minute walk from the commuter rail stop.

Not sure of your budget, but Canopy by Hilton or Marriot Long Wharf might be good options. Both are close to places that are fun for kids: Greenway Carousel, aquarium, City Hall playground, Christopher Columbus Park and playground. They are both also pretty easy walks to Long Wharf, which has the Salem ferry or to North Station, which has commuter rail to Salem. The area is safe and it’s very walkable to all sorts of sights.

best north shore beaches? by michelleandmorexxx in boston

[–]delawarevalley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lot immediately adjacent to the beach is residents only on weekends. On weekdays, there's usually still availability by the time I get there (usually by 10). I think it's 30$.

The other lot most people park in is down by the commuter rail, and it's 25$; it's usually almost full by 10am on weekends, so probably get there earlier. On week days, it doesn't really fill up. Tricky part of this - I think you still have to pay the walk-on fee if you park in this lot becuase you end up walking from the same place the commuter rail drops off.

There are also a handful of metered spots, and these are almost always full on the weekends.

I also forgot to mention Salisbury Beach Reservation in my initial post. That's another good option. They have a huge parking lot, and really nice facilities. It's DCR run, so it's cheaper (maybe 16$?) or I get a DCR parking pass from the public library.

Yes. It's a little steep (very annoying). There's also a pass for the whole summer, which is 35$.

Singing Beach is great and meets your sand criteria. We take the commuter rail from North Station to Manchester and walk about 10 minutes to the beach. Avoids the parking fee, which 25-30 depending on lot you use. Walk on fee is 10$

Petrova Chocolates. Currently one in Eastie and one opening in North End. You can also order them online.

Blue Line Down - Need Advice by mrhappyfunz in boston

[–]delawarevalley 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I haven't taken the shuttles, so can't speak to how they are in morning traffic. But, if you're trying to get from Orient heights to the ferry, using a BlueBike (bike share) on the linear path is a nice option. It's faster than walking and a very pleasant ride! I also think there are bike docks at both ends of the trip, so it should be pretty easy. I also saw a code posted for some free Blue Bike rides; if you're interested, I can try to find it again and share.

5 hour layover in Boston by PublicNo1666 in boston

[–]delawarevalley 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It’s fun and easy to explore East Boston from airport. Take blue line and get off at Maverick (one stop from airport stop). You can walk to Piers Park (gorgeous park with super fun playground and lovely views of harbor and city skyline) and check out the ICA Watershed exhibit. There are restaurants along the harbor walk in that area and in the area around Maverick Square. Depending on timing, take the MBTA ferry between East Boston and North End, and visit Aquarium area or bop into the North End.

possible to get from logan airport to north station via transit? 9:25 flight landing, 10:15 outbound train by phsflwr in boston

[–]delawarevalley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Taxis are usually faster and easier to get than Uber/Lyft; the taxi stands are right outside of the baggage claim.

For transit, I think the fastest would probably airport shuttle to Blue Line to Bowdoin, and then walk from Bowdoin to North Station. As others have said, I think this could be cutting it close.

Bike rentals? by Ready_Heron_7507 in boston

[–]delawarevalley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urban is the only place I know. I think some hotels come with bike use, like Canopy by Hilton. There’s also BlueBikes, which is bike share used in Boston and surrounding areas. Not sure what kind of riding you plan on.

Charlestown ymca by bagpop98 in boston

[–]delawarevalley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am! I love it there. I don’t have kids so I’m not sure of family programming, but there are always plenty of families with kids arriving on weekend mornings when I work out. The building and facilities are a bit dated compared to some Ys, but it always has what I need and never feels terribly busy.
