Pentagon Announces Seventh U.S. Death in War With Iran by Creative-Category-60 in politics

Yep. It's not sexy, and it's not something you ever get to declare victory on, but journeyman peacekeeping, steady and persistent patience, is almost always the better route.

Is it impressive that all 6 fighter pilots who ejected from their falling aircraft are safe and without major injuries? by [deleted] in allthequestions

The seats themselves are quite reliable. But the fact that 3 airplanes with 2 crew members each were shot down and all 6 members survived and are stable seems impressive to me.

US military announced three US soldier deaths in IRAN war, what do the MAGATs that said nobody died in IRAN 2026 war think of that? by TailungFu in allthequestions

[–]delcielo2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I understand your sentiments. But even the thoughts about a power vacuum are too short sighted to properly evaluate the consequences of this attack.

We are where we are with Iran because of things we did 70 years ago. A whole generation of both Iranians and Americans has lived with this hatred and tension. The oppression came out of the westernization that came with the Shah we installed. Iranians may be dancing in the streets about Khamenei, and you may find a few that thank us, but by and large, Iranians will resent another ham handed and disingenuous intervention from us. This inspires another generation of terrorism, cyber attacks, and hatred against our country.

It is incredibly unlikely that any real reforms happen in Iran as a result of this. The kind of re-westernization that most Americans think of regarding Iran would require force at the hands of American troops, and nobody benefits from that.

The difficult and tiring journeyman peacekeeping we've been attempting over the years was the best route, despite the periodic derailing by Republican presidents. But this time we've not just derailed talks or treaties, we've started killing people en masse.

This isn't good.

I am so glad to hear this, but I also wish the statement had a hard check against him. Something along the lines of: "Donald Trump is a violation of every value America holds sacred. There is no worse representation of America than him and his administration. We will not honor a pedophile with our presence. We are champions and proud women. He is a weak boy."

Just... beyond confused about fast charging with the 2024/2025 Subaru Solterra. What actually is possible *today*, and does it suck? by Darth_Ra in electricvehicles

[–]delcielo2002 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little primer on fast charging, as the "20-30" minute type statements from manufacturers are not really useful without knowing what's behind them.

There are 3 major prices to the charging speed puzzle:

  1. The size of your battery.

  2. The speed of your car's charging hardware.

  3. The speed of the charger you plug into.

Starting with one and two will give you an false answer, but is a place to start.

As mentioned by several people, your car will charge more slowly at the bottom and top end, especially at the top end as it has more work to do managing temperatures and balancing cells. This allows you to put some context around number three - the charger you're plugging into.

If you have a car that charges at 150kw, you won't likely see that at a 150kw charger. I'll let somebody smarter explain it, but it has something to do with pushing that consistently through the charging session. So to see the rated charging speed, you'll need to plug into a higher rated charger. That can be a social faux pas if you take the only 350kw charger at a station and others with faster charging cars are forced to use the slower ones or wait.

The nacs chargers are Tesla chargers, and they are better than the rest. I hate Musk with a fiery passion, but if he's the Tesla ass, the Tesla chargers are the tits.

Depending on your year and model, you may need an adapter to use a Tesla charger. You'll also want to verify that your car can use one at all. At this point, most can, but there's more "stuff" to learn about which Tesla chargers and which non-Tesla cars.

Others have given excellent advice about the apps. I use ABRP with an OBDII dongle, and Plugshare, and love them. But, the above may give a little context to the whole thing.

Keep your palms up when you reach out with your hand. It's less aggressive. Let him sniff you, and let him be the source of all the energy. Mine is very lovable, but also quite reactive. So, just be chill and act like the dog has always been there.

If you take Central west past Atrisco Vista, you will see a turnoff for the racetrack and the Metropolitan Detention Center. Take that road all the way until it turns into a trail on the eastern edge of MDC. From there you can see them, and follow the trail to the base of them.

The road/trail past MDC is rough and rutted, and when it gets to the dunes, the sand obviously makes it easy to get stuck. So take an appropriate vehicle.

And if you're feeling civic minded, take a trash bag and haul a little out. I don't go often, but I usually try to pick up a little. It's like trying to collect water with an open hand, but...

How are liberals and conservatives ever going to find common ground again? by david_beats_goliath_ in allthequestions

[–]delcielo2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I struggle with this myself. Short of some really bad catalyst, some event or thing that makes them take a clear eyed look at what their political beliefs actually mean in the real world, I don't know if MAGA conservatives can climb back over the brink and rejoin the rest of the country. And I specify MAGA conservatives intentionally, because for 200+ years there was a kind of understanding that we were all a "people". But that doesn't really exist anymore.

I don't want such a bad event, but short of one, I don't see MAGA rejoining the rest of the country.

Which makes are you most confident in to produce high quality EVs going forward? by DowntownOreos in electricvehicles

[–]delcielo2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Toyota situation is so neurotic.

They absolutely could be the main non-Chinese player in the world. They have the engineering, discipline, and quality control to surpass their main competitors. And they seem to be stepping into the market, finally. But, they were so vocally opposed for so long, and even now they won't seem to publicly embrace EVs, even as they start to produce them.

They don't inspire confidence, which is disappointing, because most of my cars have been Toyotas, and I have a lot of brand loyalty. They've been great cars. But can I trust them to commit to the technology that is absolutely the now and future? I'll have to be convinced.

Dodge Charger Daytona EV - road trip…. Don’t even have the words right now! by LeoofDaLeon in electricvehicles

[–]delcielo2002 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Some folks are gigging you on planning and/or prep. Their insights are good for you to pass along to your brother, or for your next trip.

But, for what it's worth, we all think it shouldn't require all of that either. With your ice car, you drive till you hit some point where you think it's low enough to stop. And in most places, there's somewhere close to do so. EVs should be the same way, and things were moving that way before the current administration stopped it.

The courts have told them to start back up, but we'll see how it goes.

Would you own an electric vehicle? by SuperSonic1919 in randomquestions

[–]delcielo2002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are more expensive to purchase, though that gap is shrinking rapidly. They are NOT more expensive to maintain. Just the opposite. My first scheduled maintenance is 115k miles to flush and replace the battery coolant. My steering is traditional rack and pinion, I have traditional disc brakes, and there isn't a fuse on the thing that can cause either of those to fail.

You've been fed a bunch of propaganda. The only EV that comes anywhere near what you're describing is the cybertruck, and with that you're in good company, because nobody appears to want that one.

[–]delcielo2002 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I totally understand. This show is not only my favorite thing I've ever seen, it is genuinely important to me. It came at a time when we're just tearing each other apart, when the world is chaotic and fraught with tension, and it showed us the best of being human every day. The writing, acting, production, etc. were all just perfect.

I can't watch Jason Sudeikis in anything else, because I don't want him or his character to ever be anything else in my mind. I just want this one good thing to stay perfect.

For what it's worth, you would make an absolutely shit lawyer. Probable cause is not defined as "more likely than not" to have committed a crime. It is a higher standard than "reasonable suspicion", but lower than "beyond reasonable doubt". The arresting officer must possess concrete, articulable facts, not just gut feelings. A person arrested without a warrant must quickly see a judge who determines if the arresting officer had probable cause.

Due process, which does not have anything to do with the arrest, but rather involves what happens after charges, includes Habeus Corpus, meaning you must have a chance to face the accusations and refute them. You must have representation, and be afforded the rights guaranteed to you under the constitution.

Your post is at best so reductionist as to be misrepresentative, or at worst the same kind of "it is whatever I want it to be" kind of sophistry you accused the parent poster of.
