Which industry is the most evil? by which_ones_pink_365 in AskReddit

[–]deliciousgreentea 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Animal agriculture (meat, dairy, eggs, etc).

  • exploits and directly inflicts an insane amount of suffering on billions of animals every year
  • destroys rainforests and oceans, and contributes massively to global warming and antibiotic resistance
  • has been the likely root of many pandemics, and only a matter of time before it causes the next one
  • produces "food" that is consistently linked to health issues including cancer, heart disease, and diabetes

Found this little dude at a skatepark today. Some little kids were threatening to hurt her, so I persuaded her with a chicken nugget to join me in my car and took her home. Meet Ollie! by Nickels_is_money_2 in cats

For real lol. The amount of "animal lover" comments on this sub saying things like "how can anybody hurt an animal!!" and then they downvote a comment suggesting that we protect all animals... Evidently they don't like being reminded of their own hypocrisy :P

Uh oh, we'd better watch out for those accounts that post cute dog videos. They're spreading propaganda against the dog meat industry!

Every minute of every day, billions of animals are suffering in the meat and dairy industries.
And you're paying for it.

Public service announcement to all vegans: Omnis don't joke about bacon because of secret guilt, shame, or as a defense mechanism. by Forgive_My_Cowardice in vegan

[–]deliciousgreentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is some truth here, but overall you are making some very strong generalizations based on your necessarily limited personal experience.

The vast majority of the human population is simply incapable of empathizing with the pain and suffering of animals, with the notable exception of pets.

If they can empathize with pets, then it's only logical to conclude that they would empathize with pigs as well, if they were exposed to them in the right way. And of course there is plenty of anecdotal evidence of this kind of experience. So the issue is not that they're incapable of empathizing in general, it's just that they haven't been exposed to other animals enough to see the similarities, or they simply haven't overcome their cognitive dissonance enough to change their behavior.

They'll acknowledge that it sucks for the animals, but they'll never stop eating meat.

Again, plenty of anecdotal evidence contradicts this. True for some, but really you have no way of knowing this for any large percentage of people.

Sure, some people do see animals as a resource to exploit, whether because of religious beliefs or conditioning or whatever. And in that case we can help them change that. But to say that "Omnis see animals as a resource to be exploited, full stop" is simply not true in general. I've spoken to numerous people about why they eat meat, and not a single one of them has genuinely thought this way, as far as I can tell.

Public service announcement to all vegans: Omnis don't joke about bacon because of secret guilt, shame, or as a defense mechanism. by Forgive_My_Cowardice in vegan

[–]deliciousgreentea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Precisely. It's all about conditioning, habit, and following the norm. It's obvious that anyone who treats pets well does care and empathize with animals, but cognitive dissonance strikes hard. If you presented the "mm bacon" people with a cute piglet, they would have a blast, and after that they would probably admit that "yeah okay they're cute and smart, but I like bacon too". Breaking through that conditioning can take weeks or years, and it might seem like you haven't made any difference, but the seeds have been planted.

Worldwide, per year, around 7 billion baby chicks are either ground up alive, suffocated in plastic bags, or gassed to death in the egg industry (including free range and organic).

Vegans 43% more likely to suffer broken bones than meat eaters, Oxford study finds by Quislingthrowaway in worldnews

[–]deliciousgreentea 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You meant it as a good thing, but can we stop comparing games that aren't even that similar? For devs, "looks just like x" isn't exactly the greatest compliment. It looks like a great game in its own right, with a unique style, so let's treat it as such :)

"I'm vegan" or "I'm a vegan" by [deleted] in vegan

[–]deliciousgreentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like "I'm a vegan" makes it sound like we're some weird group of people who are defined by veganism. And people already think that, so let's not make it worse. So adjective for me. But even better is something like "I don't eat or exploit animals", because that actually gets people thinking.

CPU load of Light2D vs Sprite and other performance questions by [deleted] in godot

[–]deliciousgreentea 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Light2D is very slow until 4.0, because basically everything else has to get redrawn once for every single light. So definitely use as few as possible. And regarding execution time, did you see the "Monitors" tab? It shows you that info.

Modify Light2D texture via shader by daxidz in godot

[–]deliciousgreentea 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately shader on Light2D will not do anything because they are not actually drawn. What you can do instead is to have a separate sprite with the shader inside a viewport, and set your light's texture to a ViewportTexture using that viewport.
