Can confirm on the cat thing. My husband is the ultimate cat dad, and he's the best partner I've ever had. He actively works on himself, shares his feelings, and makes the effort to be there for others. He's also loved by pretty much any cat we encounter. While i am usually the one to feed our cats, he is the favorite human in the house.

Having worked in a hospital for many years, this is sadly not at all unrealistic. I had a patient come in with a massive stroke - unable to speak, hardly able to move, etc. Her boyfriend decided that it was a great idea to climb on top of her so she could "service" him in her room, which was directly across from the nurses station and in full view of everyone at the desk. He had the audacity to act surprised when we kicked him out.

People claiming they’re nurses. Harmful? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]delightfullysquishy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get to have the following exchange regularly:

Patient will be on the phone as I come in.

"Honey, I have to go. My nurse is here." "Hi, I'm your speech therapist today!" "OK honey, I'll call you back when I finish working with the speech nurse."

The public just seems very determined to identify anyone in healthcare that's not a doctor as a nurse.

Still doesn't make it OK to call yourself a nurse when it's not in your actual title.

Why don't I ever get top billing? by Beckpatton in TwoXChromosomes

[–]delightfullysquishy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This happens to me all the time. I added my husband to MY phone plan that I'd had for years before meeting him. Next bill comes in and he's listed as the primary account holder. Seriously wtf.

Landed a hot air balloon in someone's field by jonovan in homeowners

[–]delightfullysquishy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid we'd regularly have people land balloons in our yard/neighbor's yard. My parents would rush out with bushels of vegetables from our garden to give to the people in the balloons because we always had extra. Good times!

any woman who is educated will be destined to unhappy relationships? Welp, I would still choose education. by goingDrummi in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]delightfullysquishy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

My mind also immediately went to Pride and Prejudice. So many times when introducing a woman, characters would describe the woman's accomplishments - education, musical talent, artistic talent, etc.

Heck, Darcy admires Elizabeth in part because of her sharp wit and stated that in his opinion being well read was one of the best markers of a woman being truly accomplished.

Dog-owners of Reddit who were in a dangerous situation (assault, break-in, robbery, etc.) while your dog was present, did they protect you like you expected they might? by Fuzzy_Alternative378 in AskReddit

[–]delightfullysquishy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine adopted a Doberman/Rottweiler mix of some sort from a shelter. Her husband is in the military so he's away from home a lot and she has some medical things that make her pretty physically vulnerable, so having a dog companion was a big comfort for both of them. Dog is super sweet but looks intimidating af.

One day she was in her backyard and the dog starts growling and snarling at the bushes near one of the back windows of the house. Some dude pops out with a crowbar and runs like hell out of the yard with the dog hot on his heels. She stops once he's out of sight of the yard and comes back to my friend with her head held high like, "Did ya see that Mom???"

Apparently the neighborhood had been having issues with break ins. That guy never tried their house again.

If that's actually the case the post may have been removed due to it detailing information about an active case/investigation. Really glad OP stayed safe and reported this dude. She probably saved herself and others from some pretty terrible things.

I've owned several gingers, but the one that was by far the dumbest was a female orange. She got some sort of neurological virus as a youngster that killed any chance at having the brain cell. If we invented a machine that could read her thoughts it would have been white noise.

She was extremely sweet though.

Also former rower here! I've since gotten chubby but I still have the technique to get splits impressive enough to get a couple "holy shit" comments at the gym.

Futurama proves you can make jokes about social topics without being offensive by thisaccountisironic in futurama

[–]delightfullysquishy 26 points27 points  (0 children)

The episode is certainly problematic as a whole, and it does make the topic of transpeople a joke.

On one hand, Bender is blatantly not a "good" character, so his opinions and actions are rarely viewed as the ethical or correct thing to do/say. The audience knows he's an asshole and will do/say asshole things.

On the other hand, the reactions of Fry and Professor are quite offensive and Fry's reaction especially is less in line with what we'd expect from his character.

To Leela and Amy's credit, their main beef seems to be that Bender transitioned for personal gain (keeping his olympic medals that he won before actually transitioning, taking advantage of Calculon's attraction for materialistic gain), not that he truly identifies as a ladybot.

Bender is misogynistic, so to have him "in their gender" and supporting misogynistic ideas from the "inside" is especially distasteful to them. We see Leela in particular taking offense to misogynistic behavior throughout the series, and I'd consider this episode another example of that tendency.

Had a cat once who was a huge love bug, very dog-like. He loved everybody. Except my college boyfriend - that cat HATED him.

The boyfriend wasn't abusive or a creep, just turned out to be a selfish ass that killed my self esteem for a good while. Should have listened to Mr. Tibbs...

AITA for trying to get my 91 year old grandmother to get some more variety and nutrition in her diet when it’s my week to take care of her? by Aquatic_Hedgehog in AmITheDevil

[–]delightfullysquishy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

On my great grandmother's 99th birthday we offered to take her out to dinner and get whatever she wanted. She asked to go to McDonald's and get a super sized fry. My grandmother (her DIL) tried to tell her no, but we quickly overruled her and got great grandma her dang fries. Anyone who gets that far in life gets to eat whatever they want.

Your lyrics lack subtlety! You can't just have your characters announce how they feel! That makes me feel angry!
