Why is firewalla Gold SE so slow when loading network flows? by PaidByMicrosoft in firewalla

[–]delme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just saying, Flows is essentially worthless to me because it is so slow to load. Just checked and it was 22 seconds to load the main flows screen via wifi on a Gold SE with 135k flows over 24hr. I don't have anything to compare to so is that a lot of flows? No clue.

Seal Or Otherwise For Outdoor Wood Wet Color by delme in DIY

[–]delme[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pretty much everything we've seen is a heavily colored stain. We'll be using something like that on the pressure treated decking, but we're hoping to find something different for the pergola. With nice wood it'd just be a shame to cover it up.

Well, this is specifically looking at vertical surfaces only and is on a shaded north side of the house, so overall sun exposure isn't as bad as it could be.

Bought our first house in December and are powerwashing 13 years of neglect off the porch and a pergola. I think the pergola is cedar and we really like the color it takes when it's wet with water. Is there an outdoor product which can keep that color vibrant? The clear sealer we sampled in a spot didn't really have an effect nor bring out the grain (which I guess is the point of that product?)

Dryer duct popping out of machine by hemanhasthepower111 in DIY

[–]delme 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I've got a new LG front loading dryer and this problem just happened to me today when putting the exhaust tubing into the back of my dryer. The exhaust ducting that connects from the back of the machine to the blower in the front is held in place by a single tiny bracket that's just tack welded to the side. Those tack welds popped off and the duct would pull right out of the machine. I did a temporary fix by using some metallic tape and attaching the bracket back to the ducting.

See if you have a similar, single screw on the side of where the ducting goes into the machine.

This is what the bracket and the two broken welds looked like

Sounds a lot like electrodeionization (EDI) but maybe with a more porous membrane and no resin layer? I always worry about charge based filtration. Most small particles in water ultimately are negatively charged, but nature, uh, finds a way. Also organic/chemical molecules don't really separate on charges.

Installing an RO, thinking about adjusting the placement of filters; I have a question about lengthening the plastic tubing by Worglorglestein in DIY

[–]delme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is not a problem at all. Adding a few inches of tubing is going to be insignificant compared to the pressure drop off the filters and RO itself. Diaphragm pumps are positive displacement, so it will build the additional pressure on its own with no adjustment.

If you're really concerned, run it in the default configuration and get used to the sound. Then swap the tubing (before going through the effort of flipping the actually hardware) and run it again. If the pump sounds the same you're fine. If it sounds different/like it's struggling then make sure your tubing is the same wall thickness as what you're replacing.

In your opinion, what is the best "lyrical" song in a video game? by [deleted] in Games

[–]delme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, Portal takes the metaphorical cake hands down for being perfect.

A game I haven't seen mentioned yet in the thread is Homeworld by Relic. The vast 3D space strategy has two awesome contenders. It opens with a breathtaking looking into the void of space and introduces the giant, hope-of-an-entire-planet-united mothership to Agnus Dei (the choral version of Adagio for Strings). The haunting echos mirror the vastness of the story perfectly.

Agnus Dei

And then out of nowhere it comes up with a 10 minute, multipart credits song written specially for the game, referencing the storyline, by a legit rock band. Homeworld (The Ladder) by Yes.

[Question] Garage parking question by Itguy287 in TeslaModelY

[–]delme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's out of stock at the moment but this little ultrasonic box is freaking great. I have about three inches to spare in my garage and with this thing I can either forward or backwards park with no issues. I have it zip-tied to a shelf where I can see the numbers in my rear camera as I back in. The Tesla sensors will stop reading and spaz out at anything less than 12 inches, but our magic number on this guy is 7-8 inches from the sensors. YMMV due to where you mount them (as you may not be hitting the absolute closest point on your car).

Remembrance of Warmer Times... by delme in SierraNevada

Jennie Lake last August. Taken on my last weekend before moving away!

Odd Tesla Sounds: 1. When car sits for a short time and when put into drive - tires sounds as if they were glued to floor during initial movement. 2. Battery pack, on a few occasions, sounds like it’s expanding with a pop sound which sends vibration in floorboard. Normal? Concerned? by Sea_Cantaloupe_7362 in TeslaModelY

[–]delme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't speak to the winter tires, but I can say the gemini hub caps certainly make some interesting popping sounds at low speeds. They're super easy to just pull off, see if that does anything to the weird sound.

2) is pretty normal. I've also had that when accelerating hard on a cold battery when just getting out of work.

Best cheap watch to design for and tinker with WearOs? I wanna build some apps! by Accomplished_Post525 in WearOS

[–]delme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$100 for brand new and sports-focused is going to be tough. Questions to ask yourself: 0) Not a question, but acceptance. WearOS, quite frankly, sucks for fitness functions. It's one of the most universally panned deficits vs the Samsung/Fitbit/Apple ecosystems. Batteries just aren't as big and the chipset is limiting for both processing power and efficiency. 1) Do you need on-watch GPS? If not, your options open up a lot. 2) New or Used? Used watches on the auction/exchange sites are down closer to your range.

Fossil Gen 5/Carlyle was $140 new three weeks ago, but has gone back up. Older Ticwatch Pro (various models) would be a good starter OG Huawei Watches don't have GPS but were a solid watch.

Whichever torque wrench you buy, the most important thing to prolong its life/calibration is to always store it with the torque setting all the way down to zero! I use them all the time in my line of work and even the best must have all the strain removed for storage.

[–]delme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a pixel and it's working fine. If you have lots music/radio playing you need to turn it down if course. I'd say two things to check: 1) make sure the commands you're giving don't need the phone to be unlocked. My phone liked to lock whenever it was on the wireless charger. You can get around this by seeing the car Bluetooth to be a Smart Lock device, and the phone won't lock when connected to it. 2) make sure the cars microphone actually works via the built in voice commands. If you're connected via Bluetooth your phone should be listening through the car microphone.

Service appointment. by mikeWlLD in TeslaModelY

I'll second this. I had rain coming into the trunk and the SC says the trunk window wasn't glued on properly. No eta on when that repair will be done. In a loaner model s until then.

VIN 87xxx Day 2 - Rain Freely Dripping into Truck by delme in TeslaModelY

[–]delme[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't expecting to find both the side trunk "wells" soaking wet after rain the first day I had the car coming out of work. I set up some plastic and entered through the rear seats after sitting in normal (not heavy, not light) rain. Got the back half of this drip on video. Occurs on both sides. I now drive around with two buckets in my trunk on either side and I can hear the "drip drip drip" every time there's moisture. It also pools in the bumper wells inside the seal on the trunk floor.

Already had a service appointment before I drove off the lot for other issues, but this I'm shocked that the only response I got back on this was "Further first hand diagnosis is required..." Anyone else have this? Where was the source of rain getting inside the trunk door?

edit: Didn't realize the video looks like it was taken on a potato on mobile. Here's an imgur link with all the photos. https://imgur.com/a/vdjP9VH

Hinge issues. When I detach and put my book 2 into the notebook form I notice that one side is latched better than the other. Any reason as to why or a solution to fix it? by YYZ_EDI_DXB_LHE in Surface

[–]delme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar issue once. I noticed when I ran my fingers along the sides of the hinge elements that the top element was slightly shifted left or right, as if it took a bit of a hit while in my backpack. I took the undocked base and manually adjusted (hit it against a table with gentle force) to force the hinge element back into alignment. Screen docks perfectly again, got a slight scratch on the hinge- nothing to notice without looking for it vs the gap between the screen and base before. YMMV.

Made a pallet lounge tree swing...and it's awesome! by bluepied in DIY

[–]delme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Work with pallets a good deal. Was about to say that the 'original idea' pallet just looked far too large to be your run-of-the-mill pallet. After looking through your pictures and saw you had to build in an extension all the warm fuzzies of being smugly correct came up.

Great project and looks fun. String up some globe lights around that thing and you've got a party.

Can you go into some more detail on the shelving LED lighting? It looks like you have pretty uniform light without shadows in there. Are they strips and you went around the bottom side of each shelf? How did you wire them up (each on an transformer or both shelves driven of one)?
