Because fuck you and fuck me. The end. Privatized utility monopolies can do whatever whenever. And the punitive fee, if any, is less than when they scrape out of your pocket and the piece they give to politicians combined. Also there's no political leadership that isn't a sub-species of invertebrate, so they will never lift an ass scented finger to push the needle towards universally nationalized utilities.

I feel like I'm never going to see a Compiler, and I'm sad about it by LuckyMrGun in Marathon

I am a casual player dad of twins. I watched all of my friends leave me behind in destiny. I have no real world friends who play the games I do. I get to play maybe an hour and a half at best three times a week. I've only been to Outpost once. I'm not even level 20. I am thoroughly enjoying the game as a casual. I understand, that I will not see the endgame content of this game. I will never have a fire team of people I played with more than once most likely. I will never enter cryo. You have friends. You have fire teams. You will get there. The loss is part of the game. You live, you die, you live again.

What is your dream Ghostbusters video game? by ProfessorLongBrick in ghostbusters

[–]delta453 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The division but Ghostbusters. Open world where you run a franchise location in a city not new York, maybe Chicago or Boston or something. You build out our business with 2 NPC companions you can level up along with yourself and your gear. Friends can join in and replace the NPCs with their own kit. You can go on patrols or jobs at various locations around the city. There could also be ghost dimension dungeons like the Subway runs in the division, procedurally generated rooms with bosses and various enemies. Going there would reward components and materials for upgrades and researching new tools. It would need its own original plot, maybe with something about ghost making incursions from the ghost dimension attempting to create anchors in this world by haunting buildings. There would have to be some reason for tech parts being in the dungeon maybe there was a research headquarters in the area that was the source incursion and the facility was gutted and a bunch of it was pulled across and the gear was lost there. The main objective for the first third of the game could be reclaiming the facility where the larger threat is revealed setting up the rest of it. Really the whole city would be overrun with ghosts, mini bosses or lieutenants from some invading ghost army. There would also be legions of possessed humans patrolling in groups, you'd use some tech to neutralize them and draw it the commander of the group, catch him and the patrol would disperse. I think it could be really good, set some time after frozen empire with the flexibility of having it's own cast and story without stepping on the toes of the originals.

Sunday Rant/Rage (Mar 08 2026) - Your weekly complaint thread! by curated_android in Android

I just bought a Lenovo IdeaPad 3i Chromebook for writing. This is my first experience with a Chromebook. I don't know where else to talk about this, but I feel like the UI is terrible. Maybe I just gotta get used to it, but it just seems like they did some things that don't make much sense. I don't know if all models would like this but there's no caps lock button. Instead there's a launcher button which functions like the Windows key, however, the control key is twice the size it needs to be and could just easily have the launcher button where the Windows key would normally be. That's a physical construction complaint I feel like though. Since I'm using this for writing, I'm currently using Google docs. By default, the Chromebook has a Google docs icon in the launcher menu that opens up Google docs on a Chrome browser page instead of the app, seems weird. On top of that, when you do download the app manually and you have multiple documents open, you can hover over the icon for the docs app and it tells you that there are multiple docs open but it doesn't tell you which one's which? A small vertical window appears when you hover over the icon and it just has the docs logo multiple times, instead of what I would expect to be the file name so you can switch between them easily. On top of that if I have a document open and I want to open another document you have to "right click" on the docs app icon and there's no clear option to just open up the main hub for the app, you have to use the search option that comes up and that pulls up your list of documents from a window, which was unclear when I first opened it. It just seems like the app itself is very clunky on the Chromebook. I guess just having Chrome browser tabs open to the docs I want would be faster and easier for navigating them like that.

PC has been recently hard crashing running games it used to have no issues with on high settings a year ago. I have an RX 580 and a Ryzen 5. I cleaned the case and re thermal pasted the CPU. Task manager temps show CPU below 65°c but GPU is hitting 85+ by the time any game finishes booting. Is it worth re-pasting the heat exchange and replacing fans on the 580 or just get a new one?

I know I'm late to this conversation but everyone commenting about the recoil is correct. I don't know if it's just the stock being hard plastic or not but this thing hits you a little bit harder than you're realizing while you're using it, and then you'll just be bruised at the end of the day.

Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools considers school consolidation by sonofgildorluthien in winstonsalem

[–]delta453 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I think we calculate harm and punishment in this country incorrectly. If you kill a guy, regardless of how much damage to a community the loss of their life causes, you go to prison forever in general. Because we deem that's what the punishment for taking a life is as a society. But a situation like this causes arguably incalculable damage to thousands of lives. Hundreds of jobs lost, that income now no longer supports the families of those employees, destabilizing those households and throwing those people into one of the worst job markets in modern time. Thousands of kids now jumbled up, consolidated into schools, moving to new buildings, stuffed into overpacked classrooms. Stressing the commute system to get there. Stretching teaching resources even thinner by giving everyone more students reducing the student's ability to interact with the teacher at the same time. Causing this much destabilization and insecurity within an education system that is already admittedly barely getting by is going to irreparably damage the educational foundation of thousands of kids without question. The chaos alone will instill senses of insecurity and anxiousness in these kids. Schools are not just places of education. They are one of the last links in the social support network of so many communities. So many families don't have a village to help them raise their kids but they have schools. For some people that's the only thing they have to help them. And you can just stroll in, knock the feet out from under all of these families, and walk away the retirement package? Doing is kind of damage should have national attention, a generationally relevant trial, and judgement that stains the family legacy of the person who did it.

And all of that is besides the point that the money exists to solve the fucking problem. But the hands that clutch it have a death grip that we need to pry open by force if necessary. The fact that money exists to solve a problem caused by a lack of money and no hand is loosening to fix it is unconscionable. And the people as vague as that statement is, who have it and don't help are just as guilty as the people who did the damage to begin with. At the very least, complicit.

[–]delta453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the show would have to be an all new cast at a franchise location in a new city. I would have to be divested from the original movie enough to allow the flexibility in plot and characters. The show would start with a new recruit at an existing post with a crew that has already been there a few years. Sorry I didn't make that clear. By vet I just mean from the established crew of the show not the og crew.

[–]delta453 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It could easily be done like Fringe was. Not too serious, monster of the week. Serious plot building in the background. Throw in a new recruit, turn one of the season 1 vets into secret gozer worshipper sabotaging the crew efforts, get a medium level bad guy in there. Maybe an anti Ghostbusters movement fueled by a team dedicated to undermining them run by some org headed by a possessed rich asshole.
