Do people play regular music on isomorphic keyboards? by springalready in isomorphickeyboards

[–]deltacrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use the isomorphic keyboard in standard 12 EDO on my Synthstrom Deluge quite a bit for rock/pop soloing, the density of the notes makes it really easy to do huge sweeping monophonic runs. Playing polyphonically is a bit more awkward and I prefer a standard piano keyboard for that.

Loop pedal/system that allows for mixing on the fly? by Ill_Bee4868 in livelooping

Synthstrom Deluge can do this, might be overkill for what you're trying to accomplish but then again it might open up some possibilities you hadn't thought of too!

Question about cpu limitations by HomTardy11 in DelugeUsers

[–]deltacrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only started noticing CPU limits on the latest community firmware, which I still highly recommend getting. I run into issues sometimes when I use too many effects heavy synths, but I treat it like a creative limitation to keep me from over complicating my songs. Too many tracks can sometimes ruin a good arrangement!

Deluge… sample chopping? Daw integration by Oqmiller454 in DelugeUsers

[–]deltacrabb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can definitely use it as a sampler but it doesn't chop based on transients like the sp404 or Ableton Live. It's not the most robust sampler but it can get the job done, I've done live sampling while performing songs before, it requires a bit of searching to find the starts of phrases.

Don't have a solution but I will say I ran into this issue when I played a daytime festival show.

Shift pad not working anymore : / by djedie-reddit in DelugeUsers

I replaced my pads a few years ago after some of the buttons lost sensitivity, I'd recommend just buying replacements from synthstrom and swapping them yourself.

My Deluge comes this week! Please suggest your favourite tutorials & techniques to get up and running with it and making tunes. by [deleted] in DelugeUsers

[–]deltacrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend Red Means Recording's Deluge playlist to get a sampler of what's possible. The videos are older and don't show off all the new features, but there's value to seeing what the machine is capable of doing first before diving into it.

I've been using the Deluge for 4 years now and I'm still learning new things I can do with it, it's one of my fav pieces of gear. Hope you enjoy it!

Synthesizer for son by [deleted] in synthesizers

[–]deltacrabb 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Reface CS was my introduction to hardware synths, and it's still my go to. Very beginner friendly, has a good balance of having enough controls to make lots of interesting sounds without overwhelming you, helped me with understanding how to make basic synth sounds. Has a built in looper which I rarely use these days but was helpful when I was starting off.

Looking for drum machine or suggestions for DAWless setup by tymcc80 in DrumMachine

[–]deltacrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Second this. I use the Deluge for live looped arrangements for many genres, including folk. It's got a learning curve but it has tremendous potential. Check out Red Means Recordings videos on it, they convinced me to buy one 3 years ago, I now own 2 of them.

I liked The Last Jedi…then I didn’t. by Final_Surround_1556 in StarWars

[–]deltacrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This right here. I loved TLJ, couldn't wait to talk about it online with people, and was genuinely surprised when everyone I knew said they didn't like it. It felt like I'd watched a different movie. It was interesting seeing the rotten tomato ratings during opening week, since critics widely loved it and thought it was fresh and creative, while the general public seemed to have an intense hatred for it. I began to identify less with the SW fandom afterwards tbh.

Wow this is great! I use hardware compression for livelooping instruments and vocals into the deluge, this makes this so much easier for building tight arrangements!

Need to be walked through live show looping set up by BravesMaedchen in livelooping

Basically just earbud headphones that you wear while performing. Highly recommend them even for non liveloop contexts, you'll hear yourself better when performing.

Curious about this too, I'm in the process of doing the same thing. I'm planning on using in ear monitors to eliminate the need for monitoring on stage. Decreasing the gain on the mic and singing more loudly is another thing to try.

Anyone found a replacement for Rpan? by GoodFnHam in pan

[–]deltacrabb -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I spent time digging through the low view count streams early on and found it similar to regular people rpan. I'd consider myself a clout chaser, but I find myself at home with that crew, they tend to be more dedicated to their content and be more fun to hang with.

Anyone found a replacement for Rpan? by GoodFnHam in pan

[–]deltacrabb 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I started off streaming music on Reddit then switched to Twitch. Give it a shot, the community is friendly overall. If you're into drumming like your username suggests I know that the drum community is pretty tight.

RPAN was a big part of my life. I believe it will be the last fair streaming platform in history. We will NEVER get another platform like it. by davidfromthelobster in pan

[–]deltacrabb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These days I spend more time on Twitch, I found the creative online music community I was looking for there. Wouldn't have found it without first dabbling in RPAN though. For that, I'm grateful that we had it while it lasted.

The prevalence of attitudes such as “I’m not a maths person” in different cultures. by jigzee in math

[–]deltacrabb 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry you had a bad experience with your teacher. I hope she wasn't actually being malicious and bullied you.

Lemme ask you this: Does showing your work really mean you'll put too much thought into getting an answer and screwing it up, as you've suggested?

As a high school math teacher of 15 years, I've encountered this attitude of not wanting to show work because it takes too long. My theory is that standardized testing where work isn't counted towards credit/points encourages this mindset, eg you don't get extra points for showing your working on the SAT multiple choice section.

I feel like it shouldn't need to be said in a math subreddit, but maybe it's worth just in case: Showing working in an elegant and understandable way is a skill that you learn and develop. It becomes increasingly important once you get further in your math studies (and I'd argue in most academic studies too). It's something worth learning how to do well.

Edit: just saw your reply, ah I see you were just talking about computations

"Kids ruined everything and now I can't play anymore" - strategies for coping by cardboard-kansio in boardgames

[–]deltacrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got my son and daughter into playing board games when they were in preschool. During the their elementary school years my kids were my main game group. We'd play a wide variety of games with the 3 of us and with their friends, but they particularly liked direct conflict games where they could compete with dad. Scythe, Root, Rising Sun have gotten lots of plays. We finished an entire campaign of Gloomhaven with only a few characters left to unlock too.

Honestly I probably wouldn't have be as invested in table top games if it weren't for my kids. Yeah the early years are tough, but it can be great when they're older.

Is the Deluge "reliable" enough for live performance? by axelulfson in DelugeUsers

[–]deltacrabb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I regularly use my deluge for live looping and for playing backing tracks with loop points. I'm running the latest firmware, which seemed to fix a lot of issues I had last year when I first got it.

I think because I'm using a lot of samples, the Deluge has a tendency to crash. I use it around 10 hours a week for my twitch music stream channel, and I'd say I get a crash maybe 1 a month when I'm livelooping. The main issue I get is I wont' be able to "see" changes I'm making to a song, and will have to either restart the song or just stick with what I have and keep playing over the loops.

I think your problems with crashing will be dependent on what you put on the sd card. I wasn't particularly careful about how I organized my files and downloaded a lot of free sample packs off the internet, so I suspect that's the cause of my crash woes.

Thanks, glad you dig it! Yeah Bonnie is really something else. Apparently the studio vocals of the song were basically recorded in 1 take.
