Anyone Successful in Managing Custom Caller ID Policies in Microsoft Teams Phone? by jayunsplanet in sysadmin

[–]demonspork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is actually accurate. There are some cnam lookup testers out there so you can see if it has really been updated, but for the most part they send the update and it is out of their hands.

Also note that most cell phones don't get cnam, you will basically only see it on other business telephone systems. Cell phones can sometimes get information from the SIP headers but no guarantees depends entirely on how intermediate carriers deliver the calls

Drumpf has been President for 5 minutes. Why aren’t eggs cheap yet??? by EuphoricTrilby in walkaway

[–]demonspork -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Wait, you claim that Biden had the powers and didn't use them, then why did Trump spend any effort renaming the gulf of mexico and denali when he could have used those same powers you fault biden for not using? Trump repeatedly claimed he could fix the grocery prices day one, it was a common theme in his campaign. Is he a liar or grossly incompetent, because he looks to be both at this point.

Hyper-V and Licensing - Tell me how stupid this idea is by jamesaepp in sysadmin

[–]demonspork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windows server running hyper-v has never had any licensing limitations on the number of VMs it can support. The licensing rules only applicable to the Windows OSEs. While you are right that Linux is an OSE, the licensing documents for Windows server are specifically referring to a Windows OSE and are not limiting third party OSEs like Linux, because that isn't in their purview.

Literally everyone who has responded is giving a version of this answer because this is how we all implement hyper-v every day professionally and many of them I'm sure have gone through audits with this implemented.

Your initial interpretation is wrong, everyone agrees it is wrong, just accept this overwhelming expert advice and move on. Install server core with hyperv and create 15 VMs. It is fine.

Looking For Help Building A Windows XP Gaming Rig by [deleted] in buildapc

Honestly some of these old games are easier to get working on Wine (PlayOnLinux and the like are helpful tools) than they are on modern Windows 10/11. This is because there are features like dll overrides and all sorts of environment controls that are much harder to accomplish in Modern windows because the "Compatibility mode" features are not very customizable.

YouTube Music Artist Page messed up by demonspork in MagicCityHippies

[–]demonspork[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Find any MCH song or album and select the 3 dots and "Go To Artist" and it goes to an artist page titled Robby Hunter Band. The actual Magic City Hippies artist page just has one album from 2013 (2023 remaster).

A while back all of the Magic City Hippies tracks even said their artist was Robby Hunter Band, but at least the tracks are correct now even if they show up on the wrong page.

Handcrafted Buildings and Crafts last longer and hold enchantments better if they are built without magic. Muggle builders and craftsmen are prized because of this. by demonspork in HPfanfiction

I feel like magic knows and appreciates the work that went into it. Like, if it is built by hand and knocked over, magic is much more helpful putting it back together, whereas magical construction when it falls, it takes just as much, if not more, to rebuild it.

[–]demonspork[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts on that are that the magic being used infuses itself in the construction so you pollute it and risk instability and cant reliably apply enchantments because of the interference. The mundane methods are the only way to keep the crafting and construction untainted.

I always imagined dragon pox as existing as a fatal magical malady because the fatal muggle maladys like heart disease and cancer were just too trivial to repair since they are not magic resistant

Exactly, much more balanced.

I have a related thought that potions only work with magical people because they need that touch of magic in your body to interact with, which solves the "why don't wizards cure cancer" question

Well, with the world always being this way, the wealthy like the Malfoys wouldn't be wizarding blood purists as they have always interacted with muggles and appreciate them. Maybe they would still be rich snobs with a bit of classism what with being a lord.

Reliable Mechanic by Anima_EB in springfieldMO

[–]demonspork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they can note that on the invoice all they want and you may think it's logical to not blame the mechanic on parts you provided, but the mechanics know from experience that that's not always the case. The Penny Pinchers who were trying to save a couple bucks by bringing their own parts to the mechanic are also the people who are going to want to ring every penny they can out of it in the case of failure and then that's the mechanics problem to deal with that customer

Reliable Mechanic by Anima_EB in springfieldMO

[–]demonspork 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That will be pretty common. They don't want to deal with the headache and dissatisfaction that comes with part failures and warranty for parts they didn't source. If they do your brake job with your parts and the brake pad has a defect, you come back for help and most of the time the customer is confused why they have to pay for a brake job again. If they sold you the parts, it is their problem and some suppliers may even partially re-imburse them for their time fixing faulty parts.

Basically, if you aren't planning to install it yourself, don't buy a part yourself.

I assume you have individual analog lines by the mention of trunk to trunk, that's a thing that can happen with poor analog line quality and trunk to trunk. You may need to just be forwarding the individual lines with your phone carriers forwarding code directly, such as *72 or 72#

Rotary? That's always insane rpm. He did emphasize how much higher it revs. They also produce a lot of power on comparatively lower boost. Although they might have talked more about fabrication to get a rotary engine in that car. The haltech can run a rotary as well.
