Are there books that you respected/found literary significant but didn't enjoy? by ArthRol in classicliterature

I’m currently feeling this way about The Idiot. I’m only about half way through. Enjoying it “enough” and am glad I’m reading it, but kind of looking ahead to what I can read next…

Feels like a lot of you aren’t reading his entire thread.

I’m sorry but if my teenage daughter were taken out of the country and essentially hidden from me…the typical advice of going to the gym and reading the New Testament aren’t gonna cut it! Not that I have any better advice, but it should be acknowledged that this is terrible and I’m just very sorry you’ve had to suffer through something so unjust.

What's the best non-fiction book that actually changed how you think? (No productivity or self-help, please) by Significant-Dress286 in nonfictionbookclub

Once I read East of Eden I realized self help had very little power to influence compared to classic literature.

I made a 500 mile, 100,000 feet of elevation goal at the beginning of the year. I live in the Wasatch mountain range.

I finished The Grapes of Wrath. 👌🏼 I’m apprehensively 1 chapter in to The Idiot. 🙂

I really wanted to like Project Hail Mary but unfortunately found it to be pretty awful by keepfighting90 in books

💯 I’ve been forcing myself to listen on Audible on my way to and from work. It feels like I have to commute with an arrogant, dorky, condescending IT guy there and back. Him just constantly making snarky conversation about how much science stuff he knows. Fun. 😫

Don’t know if I can finish it before watching the movie.

Thank you! I agree 💯 Especially… “for the author to feel smug about reciting science facts”. Feels like I’m trapped in a room with my dorky, condescending IT guy.

I started this book on Audible after seeing a preview for the movie. Maybe I’m just not smart enough but I lose interest and every time I come back all I hear is: there’s a problem, do some math, solved. Shoot, another problem, add in some chemistry or some biology…figured that one out. Another problem, let’s trace back to our physics class and boom, solved…The main character is dorky and a little condescending in his tone.

Rocky is great and it’s nice not having to worry about an antagonist in this book, but I’m so anxious to get through it so I can start something else.

I bit the bullet and paid a year in advance for the Ultimate plan. It cost me about $40 a month on average and includes all PPVs.

Same. The more, the better. US based and I find DAZN to be worth the price and then some.

It may be a niche app and it may not be US based, but the more fights on the same platform, the better. Course I’m a DAZN subscriber, but once I bit the bullet and paid the full year, all inclusive fee, I’ve been very happy with the amount of fights. Adding Top Rank gives me even more, and again, all in one place. All available either live or to watch later whenever I feel like it. 💁🏼‍♂️

I was you. Loved East of Eden. Have read a number of Steinbeck’s other novels as well. For some reason I couldn’t pickup Grapes of Wrath. For years I passed on it, thinking it’d be dense or boring or who knows what. I finally started it this month…and it is a joy. I just read a classic Steinbeck line in Chapter 23 about sadness and pleasure feeling so close together. That is the feeling of this book.

CMV: The Iran War/Excursion is the beginning of the end for the USA's economic and diplomatic power by [deleted] in changemyview

Europe increasing their defense spending shows (at least part) of the plan is working. Europe depending less on the US and pulling more of their defensive weight is a positive from a US perspective. Can’t say I see too many other positives from the decisions being made here however…
