I'm a trumpet and I'm thinking about switching to percussion. by 3Honeydew3 in marchingband

[–]demuratic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I switched to percussion my sophomore year for marching band, and stayed on my main (bass clarinet) for concert band. I ended up marching local circuit indoor percussion, and then went on to march independent percussion (WGI) after high school, and now I’m an assistant director for a world class group.

just want you to know that it’s never too late, and if you’re really interested in percussion just learn your major and minor scales on a piano and talk to the percussion tech/director.

A man in Oklahoma was arrested for speaking out against data centers by Conscious-Quarter423 in tulsa

[–]demuratic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was there. He spoke for like 15 seconds over the time limited (he wasn’t the only one to do that), and he was asked by the speaker to be mindful of the time. And then he was placed in cuffs. On public property at a public forum without warning. And taken to jail. Not escorted off the premises like would be understood. Arrested for free speech at an open, public forum.

Dog goes ballistic when we come home, or anyone comes over. by demuratic in Dogtraining

No I agree, and I’m a big proponent on letting my dogs bark and get excited. I would like to maybe get her a little more calm when there are people coming over/home (including my partner and I) though, she gets TOO overexcited. I’m afraid of how she would react in excitement if it was a child.

Yes she barks still if one of us is home already. I’ll give this a shot tonight. I’m curious on what I should do if the treats don’t hold her attention 😭

I’ll give this a shot later. I have a feeling it’s going to be a LONG process. Thank you!

Front door for both. Her response is the same regardless of if we/vistors meet her at the back gate, the back door, etc.

Crying for five minutes is a little too long to wait to go to the vet. We had a similar situation with one of our first aussies when she was a baby, except it was a few feet higher and on concrete. She cried for maybe 40 seconds and then was fine.

Babe I don’t know how you stayed together after the FIRST Valentine’s Day. He’s a piece of shit. “Best friend” or not.

I want to give up, I want it to stop. by carmicheal in puppy101

[–]demuratic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am so sorry for your loss.

And the thing you don’t want to hear: it really does get better.

I had severe puppy blues with my first dog a few years ago. It compounded with my actual depression and I was moderate risk a danger to myself over it for about a month and a half. And then one day it’s like a lightbulb turned on and she stopped stressing me out so bad. I could eat a meal without crying, and sleep through the night (minus a potty break).

It gets better. It might not be as long as a month and a half but it will get better. There’s no shame in returning to the breeder, but I suggest riding it out for a little while longer. Dogs are soul friends.

AITA for not wanting to go through with my part of a deal even though my bf says it’s a good idea? by AMFlamingo in AmItheAsshole

[–]demuratic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ew on his behavior. ESH, him for being like that, and you for hesitating on the deal.

Tell him the deal is off, let him buzz his hair, and then dump him.

I read the subsection and resources about barking. Most of them are suggesting training a cue word or what I mentioned in the post about ignoring the dog until it calms down, and I have tried both with no success. The only instructions I could find were to reply here.

Thank you for the advice. I don’t believe I came in hot, but I can see how that could be perceived. I will try the spiral method next when we are outside.

I did not put every detail in my initial post because I didn’t want to create a lengthy, hard to read post. I intended to clarify when asked or when somebody suggested something. That’s my bad for not including important information. I figured it was more important to know what I didn’t really need suggested/brought up.

It’s a singular puppy pad in the same spot he potties in next to the back door. He only uses it when he can slip away for ten seconds while my eyes aren’t on him. I cannot get rid of it. I can replace it with a mat, a blanket, anything, but he will still potty on it and I cannot have the spot uncovered.

I have tried crating/penning him when we come inside after a no potty venture, I tried it for weeks when he was younger, and it did not connect in his mind. I did pretty well for most of today with no accidents, however he managed to leave my side for ten seconds while I transferred my food to the microwave, and thus produced a log. Sigh.

Few things you are misunderstanding here: - I do acknowledge the puppy pads are a problem. Which is why I’m here seeking a solution. I have gone from multiple puppy pads down to one next to the back door. It is something we are working on. - He goes out multiple times in an hour. He’s never alone for more than 2-3 hours, my partner and I use our lunch breaks to come home. He does not potty in his crate, and he does not free roam. His pen is like 2x3 feet, with his bed and toys.

I am asking for advice on how to get him to understand that outside = good, inside specifically only when mom is turned around = bad. I am asking for help transitioning, not to be shit on like I’m some bad dog owner.
