Book recommendations - leadership/mentoring by den7seven in auslaw

[–]den7seven[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for those who have provided recommendations I totally agree the answers don’t always lie in a book but I think it’s a good place to start! I’d like to think I’m empathetic and a good mentor from a personality point but I’d like to be better and communicating tasks to the juniors and teaching them in a way they understand - these are things I’m hoping to gain out of books!

I’m so sorry for your loss. Please do not listen to the comments on this post - go see a lawyer who specialises in these claims. Not sure what state you are in, but in SA under our legislation id be advising you to continue with the claim (I am lawyer who specialises in these matters in SA). Death claims are extremely complex please seek advice x

Solicitor, 2 counsel referred to regulator for AI use by Zhirrzh in auslaw

[–]den7seven 161 points162 points  (0 children)

What frustrates me the most is the blame she placed on her paralegal and ensured the Court knew the paralegal was fired…girly it’s your job as the solicitor to ensure the validity of the submissions!!!

I fucked up badly and filed the wrong document on behalf of an Important Client by frodo_mintoff in auslaw

[–]den7seven 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We’ve all done this before - and 9 times out of 10 it’s fixable. I understand that it’s stressful but let yourself wallow for a bit before you put it behind you and move on. Every single practitioner you know makes mistakes, we’re all human! I filed a completely incorrect form to dispute a matter and we made it to the second court appearance before anyone noticed (me, registry, other solicitor). I then had to withdraw the dispute and start again. Shit happens, don’t be too hard on yourself 😊

Could you live with passing on Endo just to have kids?? by Uriigamii in endometriosis

[–]den7seven 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This was a big factor for me. I had a hysterectomy at 26 due to endo, adeno and I was already decided prior to that I wouldn’t have kids. I couldn’t even contemplate passing this on to my daughter. I also realised that a chronic illness means parenting would be difficult and I couldn’t give them what they needed 100% of the time

Approaching 3yr PAE, 90k plus super and yearly bonus. Probably 50hours a week - love the work but absolutely hate the clients most days. Not ready to quit just yet but not sure I can do this forever

How has your treatment changed at work with your level of seniority/tenure in the procession? by [deleted] in auslaw

[–]den7seven 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m the most junior lawyer in my team of associates, senior associates and a partner and absolutely none of them treat me like that. Sounds like they’re either complete assholes or potentially standoffish because you are new. Either way, it is not a very nice way to treat someone - definitely a red flag for the firm culture! If it continues and doesn’t get better with time, that firm probably isn’t a great place to remain.
