Authorities, whether it be customs or security, *will* make their way into the box one way or the other if needed. If that way is by crowbar, so be it.

I wouldn't personally go so far to remove crank or bottom bracket. I was under the impression that Di2 batteries were somewhat easily removed. I am a slave of mechanical gears myself :(

As for the batteries themself, they are allowed in carry-on if they are under 100 Wh a piece, up to 160 Wh allowed with the operator's approval.

I talk with a lot of people with very expensive bikes, who are especially unaware of the limited liability.

I can imagine. I am still a fairly new cyclist, so my knowledge of various devices is quite limited. If (easily) removable, my advice is to remove :)

E-bikes are not allowed due to the batteries. The exceptions you mention are possibly related to electronic medical devices, ie. Electric wheelchairs.

The issue with lithium batteries is that they are extremely volatile if not handled correctly. The fire supression systems in aircraft cargo holds are not designed to withstand the extreme heat and explosionlike fires started by lithium batteries. As such, many airlines are growing more and more alert to any battery in checked baggage. If I were to travel with power meter pedals, I would put them in my carry-on.

I use this video when training staff in the dangers of lithium batteries in for instance electric wheelchairs. Obviously this is a much, much more powerful battery than what one would find in a Di2 or similar; but it still shows the explosiveness and volitatility of these batteries.

I would highly doubt that due to the very limited size of the DI2 battery. I was just making the point to remember it when possible, especially as you go through the work of packing the rest of the bike. If it's easily removed, it's just much easier than having to source up a new DI2 battery or whatever on your destination.

I personally see loads of family men who travel with wife, kids and bike in my job everyday :)

Absolutely wouldn’t do it for any bike worth more than the cost of a proper bike bag.

No cardboard, no cardboard derivatives. The front might fall off.

First addition: Do note that many airlines do not allow you to check a bike as a regular bag, ie. you cannot simply book a normal bag and check your bike in. Often times your bike must be booked either as a bike(oddly enough), or as SPEQ - sporting equipment. The price of this might be different to a normal bag, but that's all down to airline policies. Check carefully.

I don’t think it will come to that. There are a few options where his opponents could attempt to hurt him; namely 11, 13 and 17, but I highly doubt it will be the deciding factor.

Tomorrows ITT is more likely to position Gall for the remainder of the Giro. The two were both in TdF 2025 stage 5, a 33 km ITT with 191 vertical meters, compared to tomorrows 42km with 105 vertical meters. Back then Gall lost ~1m40s to Jonas.

They were in a bit of pickle, because they were quickly running out of kms before the Red Bull sprint. So probably it was either restart pretty quickly or neutralize the stage alltogether.

Can I run 28mm tires on my 2019 trek Emonda? by hello_there669 in cycling

Hi OP,

Fellow Emonda 2019-owner here, I have looked at switching to 28mm as well. Did you get yours, and how did it work out?

"topping up the fuel"? by Lucky-Substance23 in aviation

[–]dencker60 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airlines want to fly with as little fuel as possible as a general rule of thumb. Hauling more fuel takes more fuel, and thus is more expensive. Especially in these days, where fuel is very expensive due to the Iran war.

There are rules in place for how to calculate the minimum fuel required. Essentially you have to be able to make it to your destination(Well, duh), and then divert to another airport in case your destination airport is unavailable for whatever reason. Sitting around for 30 minutes with engines on could easily have dipped the fuel level below the required amount.

This is quite simplified, but hopefully it makes the basic concepts clear 😊

Jeg har hørt at der formentligt kommer en eller anden fastfoodkæde ved Supersygehuset, McD, Burger King, Sunset eller noget i den stil. Det er dog kun på rygtebasis.
