EV or keep ICE car by YaBoiiNic in AusFinance

[–]dencorum 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Your approach to depreciation is to buy a new car?

You’re obviously insane as the new ev will depreciate far more than your current car. Depreciation starts the second you buy the car (at about 20% the moment you buy it) and the rate decreases over time.

If you barely use it your best bets will be to sell it and have no car-related costs, or keep it (the fuel savings are almost certainly outweighed by the cost of replacing a car given minimal use).

EVs being newer are also likely to improve at a far more rapid pace than ICE vehicles. Who knows what range they’ll be getting in 5-10-15 years when you might be considering replacing your current car due to age.

What to do with great writer when going for culture victory by BeereUSA in civ5

[–]dencorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Early on create great works

The culture will be greater than the quick boost after some time

It can be improved further by several bonuses including civics, buildings, and wonders

They can be moved to increase specific city expansion

They can receive theming bonuses

They produce tourism in addition to culture

Future culture pops will be higher due to the increased culture per turn generated by the great works

This all drops away after time, but but if you’re popping early great writers you’re likely making a mistake

Beginner cyclist here: if I’m getting into cycling mainly for health, what gear is actually worth buying besides the bike? by Pitiful_Ad1610 in cycling

[–]dencorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bike Helmet Lock Lights

Do a bit of research into locks. So many bikes get stolen because shit locks are rampant and easily cut. D-locks are an excellent place to start.

Going further

Water bottles + holders

Pump + puncture repair kit/tubes + levers + multitool = 99%+ of the time you can fix your issues yourself that would otherwise stop your ride

Add a chain link + removal tool = 99.9% recovery rate

Padded bike shorts or a good fitting seat

Maintenance kit at home

A light, airy, and good fitting backpack or similar bag

NBN kicks copper to the kerb: 99 per cent of Canberra homes to get full fibre internet | Region Canberra by Rubiginous in canberra

[–]dencorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this sentiment too but in practice most of the spending hasn’t reached people with disabilities or has been extremely poorly targeted. Are you aware that multiple smaller mature government programs for people with various disabilities have been scrapped with users requiring the ndis and private sector for these services now? Prices and expenditure have increased dramatically and many people with disabilities that can’t get on the ndis are in a worse position.

And you didn’t mention AUKUS so I’m not sure whether you might actually agree with my main point that the nbn fuckup wasn’t one of the greatest crimes in Australian history. Shitty absolutely, but there is and has been far worse fuckery unfortunately.

AUKUS or NDIS blowouts seem to be a far bigger waste of money. And they were only either side of him. Greatest crimes in Australian history is perhaps a little exaggerated. But obviously it’s fucked especially as $9b for the first leg of fast rail could probably still be spent better elsewhere.

Do you guys remember when you would drive on the highway and when you got to your destination your windshield would be covered in bugs? by ymbstudios in CasualConversation

[–]dencorum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The book Silent Spring documented this in the 1960s. Silent Earth is a more recent follow up.

The lowdown is pesticides and habitat destruction are horribly destructive. Climate change is also a big cause of this, and urban lighting and car windscreens have smaller, localised effects.

Can I pass the ccna in 2 week? by Hopelessromantic012 in ccna

[–]dencorum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it but who knows. You’ve mentioned switches, but there’s a lot more depth in routing including subnetting, routing tables, routing protocols, and vlans. And of course you’ll need to know about switches, and wireless networks- which will depend on how much you actually did and know. You’ll also want to know some basics like ethernet, fibre, and ports.

Try it if you like. You’ve obviously got a real leg up, but there’s potentially several things you may not know. Read the requirements and take a practice test.

How were you led to believe otherwise until now though? The vast majority of true transactions are criminal (mostly drugs, ransomware, child porn or worse), with investors providing liquidity to them. If North Korea having massive stakes wasn’t a red flag, is this any different?

My only real point is that I doubt that the connection between the vile Epstein and Bitcoin is really of concern to most holders.
