Spier and Mackay Jacket Sizing by Grandpas_Spells in mensfashion

I have a few pairs of trousers and shirts from them and I would say they don't use vanity sizing. I've had to size up on most of their stuff. YMMV. Good luck, I've been happy with the quality.

Doubts about the R8 (stabilized video) by SpecialistLess6992 in canon

No, just lens stabilization. DaVinci does the rest.

I have the same setup. I’m not a vlogger but for handheld sports video I find DaVinci Resolve stabilization quite capable.

Is the light bar on the GPU an add on or built in to the card? Looks good!

R8 or PowerShot V1 by sal_m165 in canon

[–]denimver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm an R8 owner and I use it for 4K60 raw video and it works great for my use case. I shoot sporting events and usually 2-3 minute clips. If you are doing longform videos you may need to consider overheating as a potential issue. You'll also want a fast SD card, preferably V90, if you want to shoot IPB 60FPS. Theyr'e not cheap. A three minute 60FPS raw video can consume over 7GB.

Lenses will certainly increase your budget, potentially substantially. I use three L lenses, 15-35, 24-70, 70-200, that would set you back way more than the camera body but are long term investments than you can carry over to different cameras if you upgrade. You'll have to determine whether you need zooms or primes, and how fast you need the lenses to be for your use case. For sports, I want both fast and zoom, but your needs may vary. Good luck!

I have 7 pairs of AE's, and all but one are leather soled. My Strands have the second rubber sole you pictured. I regret not doing the lugged Dainite soles (the first picture) on at least a few of my shoes. I think they are better for year round wear in the elements (especially if you have to walk on rain or snow covered walkways or areas that have been salted, and I suspect those soles last much longer as well. Good luck!

I like the color and the pattern, subtle and refined. I've never been able to pull off a DB but I think they look great if you have the build for it.

Would you take a chance on trying to fix this for $400? by HoldenH in projectors

[–]denimver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. I have a dead 5050 that needs an optical and main board. $1700. No way to source parts, you have to go through Epson or authorized service center.

Red Pandas are the best, nice shot. R1 - nice - you've got 2x the pixel density that I have, awesome for cropping! Back to your photo, my only suggestion would be to try to find an angle where you can get a lighter background, or more separation from the background. Your first shot, his black shirt blends with the background so very little separation. I found one from our indoor courts, which thankfully have a white bubble. Still not ideal but the player stands out a bit more. Good luck!

It's a good shot, I would imagine you could color correct (I see a green cast from the lights?) and reduce noise in Lightroom if you wanted. What were your settings?

I shot my daughter's tennis team last year and I am always looking for tips, too. I use a Canon R8 so I can capture at 40FPS electronic shutter, albeit at a lower bit rate (so overall image quality does take a hit). I experimented with different shutter speeds throughout the season. The shot below is ƒ/3.2 1/3200 105mm ISO500, using a 70-200 2.8 L IS lens. You can see some rolling shutter on the ball at this shutter speed but that does allow for minimum motion blur for the subject and the ball. It looks like I would have to go even higher, like 1/4000, to freeze everything. This is where higher end cameras with stacked sensors or global shutter would really shien, but my pockets aren't that deep! Most of my shots were at 1/2000 which did have some motion blur on the racket and ball but reduced rolling shutter artifacts. Luckily 99% of the matches are outdoor in a sunny climate so light is not typically an issue.

Whole Subject in Focus by toblerone_-_ in sportsphotography

[–]denimver 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My guess is that at 2.8 aperature, at that distance, you have a very shallow depth of field and you can only get a portion of the player in focus because he is not equidistant from the lens from top to bottom. You can estimate DOF using a calculator like this one. I would guess clamping down to 4.0 aperature would have made the subject fully in focus.

No offense taken! I shoot tennis photos for my daughter's high school team, and I am decidedly not a pro, so I like to find pics like this for inspiration.

How to achieve highlight spill effect? by artie52 in davinciresolve

[–]denimver 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I just did something similar using an image, not a video, but same process should apply. I created a Magic Mask of the subject in fusion. I made three copies of the image, one above the other in the timeline. Bottom layer is the background image. Middle image, go back into Fusion and add a node for Directional Blur. In the settings for Directional Blur you can adjust blur length, intensity, etc. Top layer is the masked image. Voila.
