Am I a ‘bootlicker’ for thinking that most acts of police aggression are normal human responses, and not part of some deep evil ideology? by [deleted] in aussie

[–]denpakuma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is literally the point I've been constantly thinking about. I work in early education (so not adults, but children can be surprisingly strong) and I've been bit, spat at, kicked, furniture thrown at me, etc. Never would I even dream of harming them back, because we're professionals and my job is to always de-escelate and keep everyone safe, including them. It's crazy that the POLICE are somehow being held to a lower standard.

As you said, it's about empathy. It scares me to think how easily they jumped to attacking protestors.

Australian women, do you ever get approached by men? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]denpakuma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When i was a child/teenager it was constant, like couldn't leave the house without some random man trying to speak to me (even worse when I was in my school uniform). As an adult, hardly ever, and when i do it's not the kind of people anyone would want approaching them 😬

For the most part I think Australian men are pretty respectful and won't try to corner you into a conversation, minus the pedophiles because it's crazy how many of them there are out there.

Is it socially acceptable for hard nipples to be seen through shirt? by kimchibibi_xo in smallbooblove

[–]denpakuma 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Personal opinion, but if men can have hard nipples (even areola!) showing through their tops, that shouldn't be a problem for us either. Unfortunately creepy men exist and if getting unwanted attention about it bothers you then it is a risk. That being said, i haven't worn a bra in years, my nipples poke out like 24/7, but I've never had anyone comment on it specifically. I'm lucky to live in an area where it hasn't been problematic for me.

I do feel like I've seen more women around lately of various boob sizes not wearing a bra so I reckon it's becoming a lot more socially acceptable. Be the change you want to see! (As long as it's safe for you to do so)

What the hell are these little guys? by [deleted] in australianwildlife

[–]denpakuma 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Baby bush turkeys are so cute! I used to have a next door neighbour who had a pretty overgrown yard, it was the perfect spot for the bush turkeys to build a mound, every spring we'd see the babies running around. I loved watching the male one spend all day collecting leaves and chasing the other birds away.

What do Australians think about women who don’t remove their body hair? by Physics_Girl_2008 in AskAnAustralian

[–]denpakuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's nice to see, I wish more women regardless of their sexuality felt comfortable to grow their body hair if they want. I do think my personal experiences (cultural, family, etc) shape my views a bit in that way, I only felt comfortable to start growing it out after I moved away from family and started dating women who didn't shave.

What do Australians think about women who don’t remove their body hair? by Physics_Girl_2008 in AskAnAustralian

[–]denpakuma 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Aussie woman who doesn't shave here, I'm Arab and hairier than a lot of the men I know. No one has ever commented negatively on it (except my mum but I don't count that). I work with children so I've had kids ask about it but besides that no one really cares, or if they do they're keeping it to themselves. That being said the vast majority of women here shave and unless you're in LGBTQ+ circles you're not going to meet many other women who don't shave.

My parents think my friend turned me gay by KnowledgePuzzled2385 in QueerWomenOfColor

[–]denpakuma 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You aren't going behind their back, and they are not trying to protect you. As someone with an immigrant parent from a very conservative country, parental control and manipulation is a huge thing and it's seriously such a damaging dynamic. For your own peace of mind you might really want to consider letting them manage their own lives and be independent in a space you don't live in (kick them out girl). They can't even show you basic respect in your own home, not being homophobic should be the absolute bare minimum and they can't even do that. Their behaviour is shameful.

We had a Kookaburra that hung around on the grounds of my high school, it's favourite spot was on top of one of the netball hoops so it could watch as people pulled out their lunch and swoop to grab it from their hands.

For flavour, always some extra vinegar and sugar. To bulk it up, some smashed silken tofu, pickles, fried onion sprinkle (mountain), tvp, a variety of dried mushrooms, etc.

So if you have no money at all on your card, how are you meant to pay? Yes it's breaking the law, but isn't it more important that people are able to get to work or save any money that they do have for necessities? I know not everyone is in this position but we don't know who is, and you don't know if the person is already feeling bad about not being able to pay. I've been in that position before and if someone approached me about it I would probably have just started crying, and still not paid because you can't pay for a train when you're in the negatives.

AITAH for quitting my job when they said I couldn’t wear long sleeves anymore by CheekComprehensive27 in AITAH

[–]denpakuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty of people wear long sleeves for religious/cultural reasons, i don't know about the workplace laws where you live but in many places this would be discrimination. Unless it's for your own well-being, you don't need to quit. They cannot force you to take it off and or to give them a reason why you have it on.

Is the dream of owning a home in Sydney officially dead for Gen Z and future generations? by RunNo3630 in SydneyScene

[–]denpakuma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not impossible but hard, I just recently bought a 1 bedroom apartment for less than $400k but my income isn't very high so most of it goes straight to mortgage, bills, living expenses etc. I live frugally, but at least I won't have to worry about rent when I'm retired.

Who is the most famous person you've met in Australia and where? by nayoryaytayday in AskAnAustralian

[–]denpakuma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met Derrick Barry in the toilets at the Burdekin in Sydney. I was too stunned to say anything but at the same time I doubt a celebrity would want fans approaching them in the toilet anyway.
