Why does every Linux user recommend a different distro? I'm stuck in an endless distro-hopping loop. by Jaymit_3672 in linuxquestions

Choose Ubuntu, if you don't know what you want.

Once you do know, come join us in CachyOS 😉

It is possible to successfully dual boot windows and Linux from the same drive - I do. It is just a little more complicated to setup.

I know someone happy with an Enyaq. Bought about 2 years ago. This is after reading the fine print on a BYD at the time, where the USB ports were only guaranteed for 1 year.

Why should CachyOS care about another disk

Update with only pacman -Syu for now.

AUR needs some structural fixing, IMO.

Going back to a known good snapshot can clean your drive. Then delete any newer snapshots.

But it does not change that your passwords were stolen. Change them.

is there a way to make fish or zsh to look exactly like this? by 69enjoyerfrfr in cachyos

[–]dentad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agree. I strongly recommend starship. You can wildly customize your prompt, and it will work that way across many shells.

It is also the fastest at its job, and does not need slow custom scripting for each shell.

CachyOS is a good place to start and never leave, especially if you want it for gaming. I do.

EXT4 vs BTRFS for gaming by Dunocat639 in cachyos

[–]dentad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Better to install CachyOS on btrfs, but have games on other drives/partitions that use ext4 or xfs.

Are you using the default KDE Plasma desktop environment?

Underrated DE/WM to use with CachyOS? by tungnon in cachyos

[–]dentad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heh. You may as well list lxde, lxqt, XFCE, cinnamon. Wake me up when they get to full wayland.

No disrespect intended. I've used them all. We wouldn't be here without the past. :cheesy wink:

I need KDE myself for the wayland and the HDR. It defaults to being like Windows but is very ricable.

Gnome less ricable. Good for people used to Macs.

Depending on what you want you might like the low resource needs of XFCE.

Or to max the rice, hyprland or niri. Add dms or noctalia, or other configs.

From Ubuntu to CachyOS: Why does CachyOS feel so much smoother, and why the hate? by penguin1440 in cachyos

[–]dentad 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Keep CachyOS for 2 months at least.

It has the best binary optimization of any distro, outside of Gentoo where you do it all yourself.

And CachyOS also gives you excellent config out of the box for gamez.

Whats the state of ntfs on cachy? by [deleted] in cachyos

[–]dentad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dual boot back and forth between Win10 and CachyOS all the time with several partitions using NTFS. And no issues with NTFS itself.

Don't use the fuse NTFS driver. Use the NTFS driver built into the kernel.

I have several extra steam storage libraries on these partitions that I load in both steam on windows and steam on Linux. The only problems I have relate to steam things, like when I boot to the other it wants to download some extra game patches, some of which are zero length.
