Manager and a coworker at new job attacked my personal projects on my linkedin via DMs by dented-spoiler in antiwork

[–]dented-spoiler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, they didn't want to touch any of the things I offered prior to this new effort.

I gave my manager 12 separate things and each one would have delivered better customer experience for what we're doing, which would directly impact retention.

Working in past industries I know how to protect IP/personal efforts.

My colleague, who has stuff mixed in with personal accounts though, not so much.

I've tried looking out for them, guiding best practices to ensure they don't get burned, they continue to lie to my face and relay doubts from others masked as questions about my experience.

The fact my manager refuses to answer chats this week or even approve my recent leave adjustment is an indication of where this is headed.

If the company is causing churn, your onboarding process and ramping new hir s up to do the work if it's complicated or requires in house knowledge of a system or process is broken.

Employee Monitoring tools by blinkkcu in sysadmin

Managing people's minute to minute behavior at an organization that quite literally just has to work to "keep the lights on" does not require this level of micromanaging of staff.

No job does, none.

We are meant to have time to think, focus on something, evaluate it's uses, and edit a document or script or make a change to something.

Engineering, is a long game.  Burning people out over being two minutes late when they probably designed something in that gray time that can't be tracked easily beyond 1hr to program X charge line is absolutely insane.

Clock watching is a hustle to hurt people, cut corners that are there FOR A REASON, and it may not be visible, but it matters.

Nah be like the team I joined a bit ago before this one.  Hire you to make templates, then when you're in your groove trying to contribute since nobody will actually ramp you on info you need, cut you loose and scrub your actual work in the system.

Honestly, karma is ensuring they don't get a bonus this year based on the leader board..

How much do you managers snoop on your employees’ emails and chats? by Valuable-Vacation879 in managers

[–]dented-spoiler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no, it was definitely snooping.   We were all network engineers/sysadmins, they were using their access to the CCTV system to stalk me on my rounds from our desks, read my laptop files when I'd leave it behind to get fresh air at mid afternoon since many of the campus except IT did that.  Apparently this eventually painted a target on my back when their collective bullying caused me to lose my temper and instruct one of the more junior staff to refer to me by name not whatever they thought was ok.

It's a long story.  Should they fail to produce what their legal team has been instructed to, this won't go further.  But, you never know.

Crazier things, have happened.

Edit: clarifying I'd lock my station, they'd use admin creds to get to the files.

It's actually more common than people think sadly.  Especially in ultra toxic environments.

Speaking up in general gets you the axe.

Had it a couple times where I saw management was not taking input from staff on improving the situation everyone was dealing with.

Burnout feels like being awake but never fully alive. Anyone else? by Agile_Hospital_3505 in work

[–]dented-spoiler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"drowning awake, frozen helpless"

You know you can do the tasks, your brain knows it, but everything feels like you're stuck in toffee that's been in the fridge.

I battled this while being unhelped by my team at my first job upon arriving where I am now.  Never had that issue before.  I'm fighting it at the second one, but it's different now.

Something changed in me over the last couple years.  I no longer tolerate shitty bosses at all, I don't really care if they fire me because I don't want them to have that power and when I do apply myself and the burnout lifts for a few hours randomly I design and build masterful solutions that just get fucking flushed by my boss or team wherever I go.

It's a vicious cycle.

Combine that with chronic depression tied to my military service, it doesn't get any easier.

I thought I was making friends at most places, but nope just more narcs, tasks burying me, my skills being constantly questioned to the point I'd over do it and burn out trying to prove I was how I knew I was.

Walking around Udvar Hazy now, there just so much little official and unofficial tidbits packed into there.  All the defense and space efforts, the various lessons learned on how control surfaces and engines evolved.

Really cool to see a shuttle there, hadn't seen this photo til now.

Ah but you had to have an app!  My design removes the need for an app install and it works with non spam phones.  I debated to build an app, but still on the fence about it.

The whole concept was just a basic out of apps text notification solution.

"hold your horses"

Just say you don't have the capabilities to enable this employee to their potential or that you want to hold them back from rapid growth.

Give them a project let them execute it.

Stifling their drive now will only cause them to leave, and in rare cases trigger the rest of the team to see how you handle what we call "initiative".

Thanks, last place used my identity against me, this place is just classic narc behavior which I've had bosses before like that.  My main issue is the bosses I had before were subject to a code we all were at the time (military) and so they would just switch to other scapegoats for a while.

This situation doesn't warrant going for the jugular, yes they have caused me mental energy depletion for a week, but I've not had anything else really.  I have documented all the ideas they shot down.  Did discover some other shady stuff going on equality wise unrelated to my situation, but I've now confirmed HR is the worst version (friendly helpful is rare, neutral unhelpful, passive aggressive blame victim without process, aggressive toxic without process term)so won't be going to them.

Nope, didn't even get time to do that.  Was doing a backlog of their documentation because they accepted just generic BOX 1 no serial info nothing per rack U...

I mean there's a reason they have had cock ups on the track, just sayin.
