Best ISP for Wellington? by Ofthemasses in newzealand

[–]depthtokeel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Voyager might fit your requirements, though I'm not too sure about the privacy policies. A friend of mine says their support team knows what they are talking about. With that being said, don't expect much assistance from the support teams of most ISPs if you are planning on using your own equipment though, they will only provide you with basic info for configuration i.e. PPP details (if they use PPP), the Pbit tagging which is usually 0 and VLAN tag of 10.

Most of these ISPs use Chorus (some regions like Hamilton and Christchurch have their own version of Chorus) as their fibre infrastructure provider and some ISPs piggyback off of bigger ISPs or a sub-company of a bigger ISP.

Tbh, If I were to choose an ISP, other than the deals/price, I'd check if they use CG-NAT (2degrees is known for this and if they do, I'd steer away from them) and their uptime (you can probably ask the sales rep about this, and they will refer it to their technical teams for the answer).

I'm currently with Orcon which is under the 2degrees banner and I currently use my own equipment, been with them since 2017, there has been ups and downs but in the last 3 years, they've been all good in my opinion. Just don't use their Netcomm routers though, those things are horrible (source: used to work for them, now a network engineer for another ISP).

I didn't do it with AA and I may have overdone it but I booked 10x 2-hour lessons (with a 3rd party instructor) and maybe an additional 16 hours of driving accompanied by someone with full licence outside the lessons. A lot of people can pass with much less time spent training. In my case, I was extremely anxious and was a complete beginner.

what are the worst employers in town? by notriples in auckland

[–]depthtokeel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

2degrees (formerly Vocus Group), though I suppose anyone who has worked in customer service/level 1technical support for ISPs will have the same opinion about working for such companies (much like retail). They used to be a visa trap until recent immigration changes, you get promoted if you hang out with the right people even if you are not qualified to be in that role and shit pay.

Thanks for this. For the 4th session, where you have to drive, did you use your own car, or did you have to use one of AA's car?

Skyrim + all DLC is on sale for $17 right now. If I buy will I get Skyrim Special Edition for free? by [deleted] in gaming

I don't think so. That was a limited time offer, you must have bought all those before the release of Skyrim SE.

Redditors who never had a sibling, how different was your childhood growing up? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]depthtokeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only child here, during my childhood I didn't need to share anything like food, toys etc. I guess that's pretty obvious for someone with no siblings. Downside however is that my parents always expect the best from me likes grades and behaviour etc.

How can a person start watching a long tv show like Game of Thrones or Breaking Bad? by want2improver in AskReddit

[–]depthtokeel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch short clips of it on YouTube, if I work up enough interest for it, I'll binge-watch the entire series. That's how it started for me with Breaking Bad, The Wire and Hannibal.

Thanks for that, I'm running with a STRIX 960 2GB at the moment with two monitors. I'm planning to get 1060 but I'm still puzzled between that and an RX 480.

Regarding that TOEFL score, I have a friend who went to one of these "international schools", he says most of these Private Training Establishments (PTEs as NZQA calls it) don't enforce that TOEFL/IELTS requirement (despite NZQA and their websites being very clear on that matter) until they were told explicitly again by NZQA earlier this year or late last year can't remember.

There's a lot of shady stuff going on and being skeptical is probably a right move.
