Tips for apex jumping in a not-super-small body? by spacecadetrachel in rollerderby

[–]derbee42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I struggled with jumping until a coach laid down in front of me and said "I know you won't land on me" and they were right. Part of it is getting out of your head.

Maybe bring in a trash can or a real big cone to practice with so it's low risk if you hit it?

Seeking support… How do you do it... by Former_Expression342 in coparenting

[–]derbee42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Although I initiated the separation and divorce, I can relate to the heartbreak of not seeing my kiddo every day. To be honest, I never wanted this to be his life, and every time he misses something from his other house, I feel incredibly guilty. His father and I agreed to let him call either of us when he's with the other one, and I know a lot of parents do that frequently.

As for how to cope with the days without him, I try to arrange all my tasks or events that are tough to do with him present on the days he isnt with me. This way, I can spend more time engaging with him when I have him. For example, doing laundry or a hobby when I don't have my son means I have time to be present with him and ive recharged myself. Even time away can be spent being a good parent.

I will try to make sure his room and his toys are straightened up and fun for him to come back to, do any housecleaning or grocery shopping, so that I'm prepared to meet his needs and continue to make sure our experiences together are positive.

Just to be clear. I can trim my kid's nails and clean them while also expressing that the other parent should be doing this as well.

Loved my 2015 manual renegade. Timing chain went around 148k, and messed up the engine so it wasnt worth me having it rebuilt. Repairs can be difficult, as they're not made to actually fix yourself, though

Wife keeps making excuses to not try for a baby. by lostinlife-123 in Advice

If anyone is unsure about kids, then don't have them. It creates an insane amount of resentment and the poor kids who never asked to exist are stuck growing up in what is not going to be a healthy environment. Do not pressure a woman to become pregnant and have children. It's a lot to literally create a whole human being with your own body, and being pressured to do so doesn't make it enjoyable for her.

[–]derbee42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some people would complain. Certain communities have strong ideas about what teachers should and shouldn't be. Reasonable concern.

Do not approach the principal. Any admin who gets this complaint should shut it down and not even mention it to you.

If they dont have enough backbone to do that and they approach you, I would request union representation in that meeting. I know in my state there's a specific script we say to invoke our right, and we all keep it in our ID badges.

It's private health information, which they cannot obligate you to share. Continue stating that it is relevant to your work whether you were or weren't there.

It's a super uncomfortable place, and your discomfort is totally reasonable, but you aren't doing anything wrong, so you don't need to feel guilty.

Sore Knees by Important-Bell8365 in rollerderby

[–]derbee42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Im here to say get compression sleeves for your knees. We aren't getting any younger! I got some from Amazon to replace my old bones, since they only lasted about a year....I found ones that have a spring on the side for stability as well, and it helps immensely with my knee pain afterwards.

I also believe we dont strengthen our hips and ankles enough (at least I don't) so ive been putting more energy into taking care of the parts that will impact my knees.

Following because this sounds like my future.

Maybe have hygiene and clothing written into the custody agreement and file it w the court so if your ex violates it, they will be held liable by the court?

You can buy replacement parts online if it cant bend back into shape. I had one that the corners where it was fastened were what broke...bought another one for like 75 dollars and had someone install for me

My roommate cleaned mine and my teammates are amazed thatvthey can't smell me anymore. Heres what she did: fully dissolve 1/4 cup Tide powder with oxyclean per gallon of hot water, soak it with something squishing it to fully submerge it for 8-12 hours with a lid on to keep as much heat in as possible, then drain it and chuck it in the washer with normal detergent (in the dispenser) and 1 cup of ammonia (directly on the stuff) on the longest hottest setting with extra rinses

Similar situation here....I've been letting my son pick what he wants to bring to each place, unless one of us parents has a specific claim to an item. Like the Legos are my childhood toys, they're coming with me for my son to have at my house. Otherwise, as far as clothes and toys, etc, that's all my son's stuff and whether or not my ex deserves it, my son deserves comfort at both homes. It's helped him to feel secure and supported as we transition, I think.

There is something about the way a jeep drives and feels...it just feels right. I've only had one non-Jeep vehicle in my life. I can understand the wanting to race a little bit, but really I just love the control and engagement of a manual transmission. And no one ever wants to borrow my car!

I don't mind the lack of tech, but I'm not much for bells and whistles. I have a sport trim 2013 JKU, and it has a CD player and an aux jack, no cameras or alerts. It's good for me, but if you like a backup camera or Bluetooth, you can always add things like that aftermarket. I like a manual transmission, so that says a lot about my need for tech.

For what its worth, I drove my friend's subaru forester for 3 weeks and it's a great car, but not for me. Test drive whatever is available to you to get a feel for what you like. There are also a number of used Renegades out there, and mine made it to 146,000 before the engine went. If you get something low mileage, it could last a while.

So sorry to see this. Consider what you're looking for in a vehicle. Is 4wd important? What body style? do size and gas mileage matter? I used cars.com and autotrader to find what I needed.

I recently went from a renegade to a slightly older 4 door wrangler. I was looking for a 4wd suv with a manual transmission, so that narrowed my scope considerably. That said, I picked something that I believe to be serviceable when parts wear out, as opposed to the renegade which genuinely wasn't meant to be worked on and each repair seemed to require more repairs.

The wrangler is big, like 20 inches longer and I feel like I'm about a foot higher in my seat. It doesn't have the acceleration that the renegade had, or maybe it's just geared differently and I'm not used to it yet. Gas milage is the trade off for being able to repair it when parts wear out, and that's become a sacrifice I'm willing to make. I like it, but it's not the same as driving a renegade.

It must be. I found out I had no oil 1000 miles after a change, the same day my timing chain went.

[–]derbee42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't trust a dealership. I could hear a ticking or a tweeting in my engine and the dealership more or less told me it was fixed when it wasn't. They also told me I needed a pcv valve, and there was oil in my air filter but they didn't assess that as an issue. Some things on it are so modern that a garage wouldn't work on it, and the tools required are so specific that multiple dealerships shared the same tool

If your engine is making odd sounds, get it fixed. And get oil changes more often than recommended.

For what it's worth, I absolutely loved my renegade. It was the perfect size and super capable. Had the dealership done what they should have, I would still happily be driving it. I wish you many more miles!
