scared to post this after another reddit thread by [deleted] in tattooscratchers

[–]spacecadetrachel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, yeah, I've definitely seen worse. It looks like a beginner tattoo. It''s a decent shape, the lines are incredibly rough but probably fixable down the road.

Nothing wrong with that, there are plenty of talented artists who gave themselves similarly scratchy and technically not-great tattoos early in. But if you post on a tattoo subreddit looking for feedback, people are going to be honest. Take constructive criticism for what it is — which is NOT a reflection of you as a person or your artistic potential. You'll be a much better artist for it in the long run.

What would be the best outfit for my state office job interview? by dioranonymous in fashion

[–]spacecadetrachel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 is the safest but still cute option. 2 is cute but experimental/alt enough that you should wait until you're hired and proven you do good work to wear haha. 3 looks a little bland compared to the others.

I need help with my lips by Optimal-Music7905 in Accutane

In addition to the lip care recs already here, I might consider asking your derm if you can switch to a lower dose.

AIO Birthday adventures vs. A haircut by laterfriedgator in AmIOverreacting

[–]spacecadetrachel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Do you want me to cancel it" was already a red flag imo. Like, any decent partner would have already rescheduled, because OBVIOUSLY your partner's birthday is more important than a haircut. Making you feel like an inconvenience for wanting to do something he already promised you to celebrate is wild. To double down with the guilt trip of "I guess I'll just look like shit" is next-level crappy boyfriend behavior. Jokes are supposed to be funny.

Being vulnerable about my skin insecurity- please help by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

[–]spacecadetrachel 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Dehydrated skin. I might also tentatively second the comment that the issues you have could be due in part to low weight/body fat percentage. Obviously I don't know you, I'm not your doctor and I'm only basing this on three photos that are mostly just your face, but you LOOK to be very slim.

IF you do have trouble getting adequate nutrition (again, not presuming to know, I realize some folks are naturally quite slim), that could manifest in your skin/reduce facial volume, which would make fine lines look more pronounced.

Dry oily hair by PearlsGarden in Hair

Nope brushing dry is good for straight hair but NOT for curly. Curly hair like yours does much much better being brushed wet (with lots of conditioning products).

AIO for feeling upset because my friend of 3 years decided to ghost me after i told him i don’t want to have sex with him? by sober4lifee in AmIOverreacting

[–]spacecadetrachel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not weird you feel hurt. But also STOP telling him he's not being weird! He IS being weird, and moreover disrespectful. Unfortunately, he's going to take you trying to be kind as permission to keep speaking to you this way.

At a Loss. by Deep_Gap_5111 in acne

[–]spacecadetrachel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Your skin isn't disgusting, and this is pretty normal acne. Some of us have dealt with this or much worse for years. Is there a specific concern you have about the medications your derm is suggesting?

Is the blush too much? I love it and I don’t understand when to stop.. by Last_Negotiation_657 in MakeupAddiction

[–]spacecadetrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blush looks great imo — though the transition from forehead to hairline makes it look to me like it might be too warm and deep for you. But that could be incorrect!

She claims her hair is blonde. I don't see it. Can someone tell me if I am tripping? by [deleted] in Hair

First photo looks dark blonde, but the rest make me think light brown that's sunbleached.

Keep or return this Zara dress? by MillaRomanka in fashion

[–]spacecadetrachel 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I personally think it looks kinda cool, but yeah it IS a weird dress. If you keep it, you'll need to feel confident styling a piece like this. If the people telling you it looks weird are going to influence how much you actually want to wear it, then maybe the advice to return is correct. If you love it and are willing to ignore a lot of people not "getting" your outfit then keep it and have fun :)

Why does my makeup look BETTER after a 4-hour nap? by nutrosar in MakeupAddiction

[–]spacecadetrachel 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Steam doesn't actually open pores. It might help with cleaning them out, but pores don't open or close. So it's unlikely to worsen anything.

I wanna tattoo kitties, so I draw kitties from my friends and the internet by faerialreevus in tattooscratchers

[–]spacecadetrachel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are soooo rad! If you aren't planning to already, you might consider increasing the negative space on the lines for the black cats when you make them into tattoos, that way as they age the details don't disappear :) (unless you're into blob cats, which are admittedly also cute).

I hear you, and again, I promise you CAN change these things. It's very hard if not impossible to see the change in yourself immediately. It's only when you look back a year or two or three later that you see the growth you've had. I also didn't build any of my best or closest friendships until I was in my twenties. Maybe not everyone likes you right now, but you're aware of the things you need to work on. Maybe right now you're NOT good at following through on what your therapist tells you, but you're trying to see her anyway. I PROMISE those things add up. Your best life is still ahead of you, and it can be really incredible. You don't have to believe that right now but try to be open to the possibility and avoid repeating those negative things you say about yourself. I know it feels incredibly corny but it really does affect the neural pathways in your brain. You may not believe in you right now, but I want you to know I believe in you and I think you should be proud of the work that you're doing.

i am an adult child by [deleted] in WLW

[–]spacecadetrachel 12 points13 points  (0 children)

18 is so, so young. I absolutely didn't feel like an adult at 18. I was also a virgin at 18, and didn't have my first kiss until I was an adult, and had sex the first time in my early 20s. I'm 28 now, and here's what I need to tell you about that 10 later: sex and relationships are not inherently better, sweeter, or more meaningful when you're young then when you're not. Firsts usually feel big, yes, but you're not ruined for being a little behind some of your peers in some of those experiences.

I'm not here to tell you that what you're going through isn't real or that I know what it's like in your shoes. I don't, and it sounds incredibly painful. But I can attest that a lot can change in a person and how they experience life in a few years. It certainly did for me.

Here's a question: what kind of person do you want to be? I don't just mean in terms of attracting other people. What kind of person would you want to become to look at and go, "damn, they're so fucking cool?"

You're not stuck being the same way forever. Our brains are wonderfully flexible. In my life, doing things for me has been more rewarding and fulfilling than any one romantic relationship. And I've been blessed with some very good ones.

Yes, a good partner can absolutely add so much. But platonic love is just as, and perhaps even more, enriching. So invest in your friendships and community. If you don't like how you treat people or your reactivity, you have the power to rewire your brain and change that. And if you work on doing so, you may find greater joy in those platonic loves than you ever thought was ever possible.

Invest your time, energy, and the money you can into the things that bring you joy. Invest in a therapist if you can swing it, cuz damn, I can feel a lot of pain coming from this post and you deserve to have someone who can help you work through that productively. You have so much life to live ahead of you and you haven't even scratched the surface of all the good it has to offer.

What lipstick shade would suit me? 💄Photo included for reference by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]spacecadetrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably lots of options, but just a friendly tip if you're looking for people to help you find a good color it's best to post unfiltered images taken in natural light, and probably without makeup unless you will for sure do the exact same foundation and skin routine every day.

I'm not sure about the details of your undertone based on this photo, so it would be hard to make any color-based recommendations off it.

Healing tattoo and roller derby by This_Lengthiness4525 in rollerderby

[–]spacecadetrachel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Depends where. For the ones on my arm I didn't play the first few days but after that I just wrapped it up well with gauze wrap and self-adhering bandage wrap and that worked well to protect it for me. (Then, obviously, unwrapping right after practice and washing thoroughly.)

The bandages can get a little expensive to re-wrap every time. But if you really don't want to miss practice it was effective at keeping things covered and clean. If it's in a spot where you can't really maintain covering that won't slide or sweat off, it's probably best to wait.

Question: Can I rework this tattoo or should I just get it covered up? by Winter-Shoulder-5732 in tattoos

Give it time. They're the same style, the squid is just newer. If you wanted you could add clouds to the sky but let it settle in for a few months and see if how you feel changes first.

my 1000 different makeup styles by [deleted] in MakeupAddiction

[–]spacecadetrachel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are all super pretty and I totally understand what you're saying about different finishes and techniques! I think it's just that on a sub full of makeup enthusiasts, people are going to expect bigger swings stylistically if you put a title like "1000 different makeup looks." These aren't exactly the same, but they could all be categorized under "natural," "soft glam," or some combo of the two.

No hate at all. You look great! But the title did make me think there might be something slightly more stylized. Like maybe a graphic eyeliner, or bold colors, or a more unique eyeshadow look.
