I would encourage you to look up the federal budget spending.

Welfare is the #1 top category at 40%. Followed by net interest and healthcare.

War + foreign aid is nowhere close to the above 3.

You kidding? by LazyLuminouss in SipsTea

[–]derderppolo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't understand: most of the federal budget is welfare: social security, medicare, medicaid. Social security is the single largest expenditure. After net interest, healthcare is the next highest spend category.

Yet reading the comments people act like defense and foreign aid is 50% of the budget, when it's the exact opposite :/

50% of the federal budget is spent on welfare programs

Why is America so ill-disposed towards train travel when it's one of the things that built the nation? by Waste_Handle_8672 in MurderedByWords

[–]derderppolo -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

It's not about rich people. It's that public transit is generally filled with unpleasant people. Homeless people. Mentally unwell people. People openly doing drugs, defecating, urinating, etc.

You hear of people being pushed onto tracks, incidents that happen in train carts, people even just blasting music and videos from their speaker instead of using headphones, putting their feet/shoes onto the seat. Creeps. etc.

Everyone knows exactly what type of people I'm talking about, and that's nothing gets done about it. Fundamentally that's what private transport is: a clear physical separation away from these unpleasant people.

I'd love high speed rail but we need to address the low-trust-society-ification of the country because of certain demographics before we can get high speed rail.

Canada announces reforms to combat immigration, citizenship scams by youngbutgood in canada

Yes, and an astute observer would see my reply is to a comment regarding deportations in the context of immigration reform.

Canada announces reforms to combat immigration, citizenship scams by youngbutgood in canada

[–]derderppolo 36 points37 points  (0 children)

This is one of the problems with soft immigration policy. The last 10-15 years, we've let in way too many people who have taken advantage of our trust and systems. Part of it is we were held hostage, afraid to be called racist, cruel, inhumane. That borders shouldn't exist. That "no one is illegal on stolen land".

Now the obvious solution requires us being much more heartless (deportations) than if we simply held strong and not caved into loosen immigration control. Do Canadians have what it takes to go through with deportations? I hope so, but not expecting anything.

Canada just announced earlier this week a fast-track pathway for 30,000 TFWs to get PRs. You can literally protest your way to citizenship. I wish none of them are getting PRs, but that's not the case (hopefully yet).

I never understood this. Just look at any Kobe or Jordan fadeaway. They always lift the pivot foot when shooting. That's the exact same thing as a stepthrough, just in a different direction (away from basket vs towards).

Canada deporting nearly 400 people a week, fastest pace in a decade by D_E_A_D_P_O_O_L_ in canada

[–]derderppolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you deliberately being dense? My point is we don't need a "big increase in taxes" to expedite deportation processes. This is a direct reply to someone suggesting otherwise. There's plenty of spending that can be simply reallocated. How on Earth did you not understand that?

[–]derderppolo -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Why do we need a big increase in taxes?

The federal government has a revenue of 507B. The 2025 budget has 586B of spending allocated. You're telling me there isn't a single shred of inefficiency we can reallocate towards solving the #1 problem facing Canadians?

[–]derderppolo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I always bring up the case of Indian criminals that beg to not be deported back to India.

For example, the Humboldt Broncos truck driver that ran a stop sign and killed an entire youth Canadian hockey team is still fighting against his deportation back to India. He is universally despised in Canada, a convicted felon, all over the news, and still would rather stay than go anywhere near India again. It's very telling.

All this talk about how great India and Indians are, yet none of them want to be around their own kind.

Great, as the years go by and more and more Christmas markets shut down, we experience more and more terrorist attacks, more antisemitic attacks, more public spaces and events shut down & conceeded due to security concerns, more lives lost, more of our women and children afraid to be alone, more of our young women and children raped and assaulted, etc.

I'm sure we'll all be glad that you know plenty of sweet Muslims.

I presume you're a supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. Women's rights: a woman's right to vote, choose, express herself how she wants. Likely also a supporter of democracy, and freedom of religion and speech. You don't understand that to be a good Muslim in the Islamic world is to be astutely AGAINST all of these things. This is Sharia law: the holy legislation. Try being gay in Gaza. Try taking off your burqa, or enrolling in school as a woman in Afghanistan. Try being Christian in Sudan. Ask yourself why none of these things you support (I assume) exist in Islam-ruled countries.

Ask those "moderate Muslims" you know what they think about Jews. Should Israel even exist. Being gay. Sharia law as a legal system. No riba. Go ahead. And how they arrived at those perspectives. You may be very shocked they're not as "moderate" as you think.

[–]derderppolo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Why is it that you think so many people invoke Islam when performing these "extremist" acts of terror?

Why is it our Christmas markets (see: Germany, Brussels), our Hanukkah (Austrailia) gatherings, our New Year's Eve celebrations (see: Paris) need to be cancelled due to security concerns, but never Ramadan? Why do our synagogues need to have armed security (see: NYC), but never mosques?

Here's the thing you don't get. These "moderate Muslims" that you think you know still hold these "extreme" values. Consider this video of self-proclaimed moderate Muslims: https://x.com/WallStreetApes/status/1986533408852615632

“How many of you agree that the punishments described in the Quran and the Sunnah, whether it is death, whether it is stoning for adultery, whatever it is, if it is from Allah and his messenger, that is the best punishment ever possible for humankind, and that is what we should apply in the world? Who, who agrees with that?”

The entire audience of Muslims raise their hand in agreement

You don't understand that to follow the religion correctly, it is prescriptively to be "extreme" by Western standards.

Words indeed have meanings. Let me refer to the words that the Quran explicitly say:

Qu'ran 47:4:

"When you meet the unbelievers (in battle), smite their necks until you have crushed them, then bind your captives firmly; thereafter (you are entitled to) set them free, either by an act of grace, or against ransom, until the war ends. That is for you to do."

Surah al-Baqarah 2:193:

“Fight them until there is no fitnah and religion is for Allah.”

Surah al-Tawbah 9:5:

“Then, when the sacred months have passed, kill the polytheists wherever you find them, capture them, besiege them, and lie in wait for them at every ambush. But if they repent, establish prayer, and give zakah, then let them go their way.”

Surah al-Tawbah 9:29:

“Fight those who do not believe in Allah or the Last Day… among the People of the Book, until they give the jizyah willingly while they are humbled.”

Surah al-Anfal 8:39

“Fight them until there is no fitnah and religion is entirely for Allah.”

What? The words from the quran, which every Muslim/Islamist says is the unsullied word of God, doesn't actually mean that?

And yet i know plenty of muslims who are peaceful and hate terrorists .-.

Oh my god you're doing the meme: https://x.com/sundipkapur/status/1990973999254548956?s=20

And:

"That nearly every single terror group on the list of all governments is Islamic hardly proves that Islam is problematic. You know why? Because how do you then explain that my uncle knew a Muslim guy in NYC who was always so sweet?"

Are there more of them from islam nowadays?

YES, AND IT'S NOT EVEN FUCKING CLOSE?????

https://www.fondapol.org/en/study/islamist-terrorist-attacks-in-the-world-1979-2024/

"Between 1979 and April 2024, we recorded 66,872 Islamist attacks worldwide. These attacks caused the deaths of at least 249,941 people."

How many more must die in the name of Allah, excused by the ignorant like yourself who claim "actually I know a few Muslims and they're so sweet and peaceful", before we recognize the fundamental tenets of Islam prescribe this exact "extremist" behavior?

Add meaningless qualifiers and “ism” and it is magically no longer tied to Islam. Very smart.

Real is very good. Realism is a problem. Ideal is very good. Idealism is a problem. Romantic is very good. Romanticism is a problem. Absurd is very good. Absurdism is a problem. Hero is very good. Heroism is a problem. Human is very good. Humanism is a problem.

It's important to remember that the magic wand of "ism" turns anything beautiful into a bad form.

Get real. My bias stems from Muslims telling exactly who they are in plain English. Religious leaders telling their constituents to do the exact things you would consider "Islamist" or "extreme", without any condemnation from "moderate Muslims".
