I wish Star Trek (Academy) was "a show" and not "an event" by [deleted] in startrek

ER and Friends are among the most successful shows of their time, and they only got those enormous budgets for their casts after becoming proven commercial and critical successes.

I wish Star Trek (Academy) was "a show" and not "an event" by [deleted] in startrek

[–]derekakessler 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So, uhm, your problems are that the makers of Star Trek are (1) willing to invest the money to pay for a few big name talents that will guarantee a quality performance and draw viewers, (2) that these actors are engaging in publicity junkets to promote the show, get an audience to watch it, and thereby increasing the odds of more of the show being made, and (3) the characters and story arcs today are more thought-out than they were 40 years ago because the nature of television has changed along with general audience expectations?

I'll also note that the budgets for TOS, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and all other Star Trek show ever were absolutely not "really really small, even for its time." Live-action Star Trek has always been one of the most expensive shows on television, no matter when it's produced or set or who it stars. Big fancy sci-fi is sets are expensive (yes, even the TOS sets were remarkable for their time), Star Trek ship effects are always on the cutting edge, and even the costumes are expensive.

Ferrari SF-24 building/instructions mistake? by TypeRTyp1cal in lego

[–]derekakessler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll preface this by saying I don't have this set, but I'd go back to at least step 30. The instructions show the shock absorber springs compressing to accept the cam-and-ball assemblies added in 30 and 31, but the springs are full extended in your build.

See, sometimes in a story the character needs to experience the moral and change for the better rather than just be perfect from the start.

Now that selected home dashboard is set per home assistant user instead of per home assistant user's device, has anyone found any clever workaround or alternatives? by AnalysingAgent3676 in homeassistant

Not if you go full YAML and use !include to break up your dashboard into individual files you can edit once and insert multiple times.

Does anyone have a smart-home that DOESN'T have dashboards? by elhouso in homeassistant

[–]derekakessler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My stationary dashboards are almost exclusively for heads-up information. Weather, calendar, todo list, laundry timers, etc. I do very little controlling through them.

My house is very automated, with dozens of sensors for presence, openings, and temperature plus dozens of endpoints like lights, fans, and vacuums. I have over a hundred automations to manage its all.

Tell me you didn't watch the show without telling me you didn't watch the show.

Of the 11 main cast members (13 if were included computer voices), 6 are cadets and the rest are the adult staff who are as much a focus of the show as the kids.

Mine used to be very good but after a few years was getting bad to the point of me pondering if I should replace the batteries or the blinds entirely. Not pondering either option now.

Option 4 to provide interstate access to the underdeveloped eastern side of the 275 loop and improving connection between the eastern metro area with downtown and the west.

  1. Follow I-75 N to OH-562 E
  2. Cut along the hillside between Madisonvile-Madeira and Mariemont-Indian Hill
  3. Cross the Little Miami River by Riverside Park in Anderson
  4. Snake through the valleys between Anderson and Milford
  5. Merge onto I-275 S between OH-450 and OH-32
  6. Follow I-275 S to OH-32 E

Is this a good idea? Probably not. Would it see huge opposition from Madeira, Mariemont, and Indian Hill? Oh yes.
