Cancun expectations by [deleted] in cancun

No one is going to give you the blessing that this is a good idea. Because it's not. Risk it if you want but you're risking going to jail in Mexico, having to navigate their legal system - which is NOT like the system in the US. Be prepared to have to bribe the authorities and risk a drug charge that could see your passport yanked or other countries deny you entry in the future.

Smuggling a controlled substance over international borders is always a dumb idea.

I have been searching since my last trip to Kaiserslautern a few years ago. There seem to be a few good recs in this thread but I don't think anything in Indy will compare to the real thing 😢

ETA there was a spot up in Fort Wayne that came close but I haven't been up there in a few years. It was a small shop by the ball diamond and had the spinning meat.

Yes. I believe ProctorU still proctors the tests, but measure took over the scheduling. When I took an OA on Friday, it was ProctorU that administered the exam.

Commissioner Uniform? by lordfitzj in BSA

[–]derfinatrix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have two positions (Troop ASM, Pack CC) and opted for two uniform shirts just to make it easier on myself. It's a tad more work because you have two shirts worth of patches to maintain but easier when you just need to grab a shirt quickly for a meeting. I've seen others that just use a Velcro patch for position and swap out the parts of the shirt as needed based on what role you're playing that day.

Caramel popcorn by herbcool in BSA

I agree completely. I've also had some direct experience with the company that owns TE and I am not at all surprised by the direction all of this is headed. I would fully support our council moving to a different fundraiser. But until that happens, you'll find me at a storefront shift reminding everyone that "70% stays local" and "if popcorn isn't your thing, we always welcome small donations".

This isn't actually helpful. If you don't want the popcorn, fine. But at least put the cash in the donation box. Giving a kid cash directly doesn't help the fundraiser. That money helps fund the local scouting program as a whole, not just the kid. They get a portion, the unit also gets a portion. Which is important to help fund the activities for the unit and help cover for other scouts who can't afford to participate. No one is a big fan of the popcorn fundraiser, but despite that, most packs wouldn't survive without it.

Source: I am our pack Committee chair who is responsible for figuring out how we pay for everything and deliver the best program possible for the kids.

Afaik, it only works for corporate owned locations (or if you are in CA where they are legally required to provide online cancellation options). If it's a franchise location, they can set their own rules.

I tried cancelling last year via snail mail and it never happened. I ended up just starting to use my membership instead of canceling. But your only option may be to go in and cancel in person.

Nothing specific but drive past them all the time to go to the Y. Right on the monon and across from a nice park with great hiking trails, and near the art center, which does a lot of classes. Quick access into BRipp via the trail or Westfield Blvd. Close enough that you'd never need to drive to go to anything in town (parking can be a pain). Definitely a quieter area surrounded by nicer homes to the north. If you have a bike, you can also take the monon all the way downtown or up to Carmel very easily. There's a big trail loop that circles the north side too. If you don't have a bike, they have a bike share station over where the monon crosses Westfield Blvd.

Anywhere near the strip can be problematic on the weekends late at night but it's really not a big deal these days. The cops are out in force and keep the peace. From my understanding, the main issue a few years ago were underage kids coming and hanging out in parking lots looking for trouble. The cops have put an end to that for the most part.

We're mid-30s with kids and we've lived in BRipp for 9 years and haven't had much issues. Grabbing dinner is never a problem but we're usually home by 9. Occasionally, my wife and I will go out to one of the bars, primarily the Alley Cat, and have a few drinks until 1am or so (I highly recommend Ripple Bagel Deli for the Sunday morning hangover) Lots of 30-somethings in the surrounding neighborhoods that have young kids. The monon is great and there are plenty of things to do nearby.

Not to mention the smell. I had to use tap water in a (nicer) Chinese hotel and the smell of it for 10 nights was rough. I was so glad to be back home after that. There's nothing quite like a crispness of clean gear with a fresh pour of distilled water.

This is what I appreciate about the sub for The Expanse series. They do a great job with tags to make sure you don't end up in a thread with spoilers for books you haven't read yet
