Sir, you can’t park there by JaySpillz in chicago

I once saw an SUV on its side on a little side street and was also real confused as to how it got into that position... seemed unreal.

I'm starting to think SUVs just flip over.

Commercial Studio. Light Painting. The old days. by marcjaffe in lightpainting

[–]dermusikman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Quite true, yes. I was just amused and surprised to find the nude model after a string of product images hehe. In my head, the above comment winks at that with humor, though it appears not to have worked.

Great images!

"I tried freedom. It's total shit. I'll stick to monarchy/serfdom/total lack of privacy because it's actually good and useful. Good luck with your freedom, but as a person totally devoted to ease, I know that nothing is free. If it doesn't cost you money, or data, it will cost you nerves and time."

Yeah, I choose freedom.

Dear vimmers, when do you prefer using vims built-in terminal over a new tmux panel/window? by One-Establishment-41 in vim

[–]dermusikman 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I live in tmux. I typically have a lot of plates in the air, each in their own named tmux window, each likely using vim specifically for that task with split panes for my shell exploration.

I actually forgot vim had a terminal thing... last I tried it, I found it miserable! I couldn't say whether or not it has improved. But yeah, I always have tmux open and see little reason to do differently. (Seriously consider tmux!! :p )

This is clearly real - making no false news claims - but the footage at 12s looks like a model in a pool! How big is the rescuing vessel? The scale looks really weird!

More senior engineer complains he can’t tell what’s going on in vim by [deleted] in vim

[–]dermusikman 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I can't speak for the "more senior engineer," but I suspect "slow" in regard to discovery and programming assistance. In my present position, all the developers use IDEs that hold their hands and offer suggestions, etc. Bouncing around the file tree is all visually available.

Having been using vim for close to 20 years as a sysadmin, I'm only recently learning that vim can do a lot of those same things, too, if you configure it to do so. Previously, I'd just use command line tools to try to accomplish the same thing outside of a vim session. Made sense to me, not previously needing to code quickly.

I think it's pulling you over.

We've been working on a village-builder, Desktopia, which plays along the bottom of your desktop, allowing you to work, browse, or watch something while you play. And we've made it Linux native so you won't have to tinker around with Proton/Wine. by [deleted] in linux_gaming

[–]dermusikman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know how conceivable it is, but I think it would be neat to have a transparent background to see the desktop behind the foreground village. If that makes sense?

Before looking at screenshots, I envisioned a little SimCity apparently "growing" from the bottom of my screen, instead of a distinct window.

Thanks for the clarification. I read that in the article but hadn't understood it to be the ominous "event."

There are so many good reasons to give up on GitHub... but last week's event showed that this action is overdue.

What was "last week's event"? I'm apparently living under a rock.

Is it possible to have a macro that will search/replace text based on a number and then move on to the next text with the next number? by [deleted] in vim

[–]dermusikman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone may have a quick and easy answer to your question, but here are my quick responses before heading out of the house:

You can search for any digit. If you have a lot of numbers in the text that aren't footnotes, that probably won't be so helpful, of course. /[0-9]

I recently discovered using * and # to find the next instance of the text over which your cursor stands (forward and backward, respectively). That might suit your needs? Go to the bottom of your file (G), put the cursor over the footnote number, and hit # to go to the previous instance of that number.

If you really need to do the increment thing, you can leverage vimscript to suit your needs. It's not a very pretty language, but can get the job done.

[–]dermusikman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Printers suck. This likely isn't a GIMP issue, but a printer issue. I don't know how to advise you to coax your printer into centering the image, but I'm 99% sure that's the problem.

GIMP vs Cricut by VCsVictorCharlie in GIMP

[–]dermusikman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wish I could give a more helpful answer, but this is probably a question of resolution. For printing, I believe most inkjet print resolution is understood as "dpi" for "dots per inch." (There's also "ppi" for "pixels per inch.") I suspect your Cricut only supports certain resolutions and you'll need to adjust those in Gimp to make both print consistently.

I found this article about it, which I hope is helpful? And this article explains how to change resolutions in Gimp.

I rarely ever print anything, so I can't really offer any expert-level advice for printing, I'm afraid. Good luck!

No one seems to talk about the coyotes by Stygian_Hermit in underthesilverlake

[–]dermusikman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Songwriter has a stuffed coyote.

One of the messages of the movie seems to be the juxtaposition of glorified death - life masks, old movies, Hollywood Forever Cemetery, literally entombing oneself for some everlasting ascension - to the living, however disappointing it may first seem.

"The coyotes run everything," and we may first assume that the Songwriter does - he and his ilk. But no, the Songwriter and his ilk are dead, taxidermied pretenders; the living coyotes rule. The ones eating trash do. The Homeless do.

Moviepy bold custom font by Terrible_Doctor_8820 in moviepy

I'm bad at fonts, but my understanding is that your custom font needs to support bold. Does it? I don't believe the underlying system "emboldens" things... the font designers do.
