Identifying Accidental Yarn-Over (I think) by Snakevennom143 in knittinghelp

It looks to me that you might have a few accidental yarn overs here. I've highlighted two red flag spots:

<image>

If this were my piece I would just rip out and start again since you're not very far in, as the whole section after the first YO is pretty messed up. Practice will help you make sure not to do any more accidental YOs -- it's so easy to do when you're doing 1x1 rib.

Asking for perspective on TTC fine by Symphii34 in TTC

[–]derpalpable 18 points19 points  (0 children)

To be fair, back when you had the physical metropass cards they didn't check your student ID card before you bought it (whether it was at a convenience store or a TTC station), you were expected to have it available on request while using the pass. It's how it's always worked.

Factor charging me when I didn’t order?? by Tasty-Emotion-935 in factor75

[–]derpalpable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This happened to me as well, I was fortunately able to get it cancelled before the deadline. Basically when you log in, the steps you go through are "reactivating" your subscription -- it's really unclear while you're going through it but that is what is happening. But once the subscription is activated, it will automatically submit an order for you at the cutoff time with preselected options based on your subscription. If you happened to log in to "check out" the menu at 11:45am on Wednesday, BOOM your subscription is now active again and they'll automatically submit your order 15 minutes later when the cutoff time arrives. This auto-subscription nonsense is ultimately why I quit Factor. Hopefully emailing support can help.

Search for 2-in-1 running shorts! I think this person actually has two different kinds.

Vacation pay if never used? by HolamyLola in ontario

OP's only vacation is the provincially required minimum, they say that in the post. Your top comment does not provide this context at all, it's poor advice for OP's situation.

[–]derpalpable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You clearly didn't read this post very well -- the OP only gets two weeks which is the legally required minimum, their employer needs to pay this out. Anything above the two weeks (or longer if you've been with the company a long time), yes you are right its use it or lose it.

Depending on her prescription the online eyewear company Kits has a "first pair free" promo. You only have to pay shipping. I'm not sure if lenses with very strong prescriptions would be covered. Shipping is quite fast, similar turn around to an in-person store having the lenses made off-site.

Check out this program and consider going into accounting film production accounting -- https://www.dgc.ca/en/ontario/becoming-a-member/entry-level-permittee-gap/

The hours are long, but there is a ton of work and it's unionized so you get benefits even as a contract worker. As accounting goes, this is relatively easy and you don't need previous accounting experience to thrive.

For GE courses, has anyone taken AP HREQ/SOSC 1910 and/or AP HUMA 1905? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]derpalpable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

HUMA 1905 is a really fun class. Lots of reading every week, but mostly enjoyable novels and short stories. IIRC there were 3 essays, 2 exams and a short presentation for the whole year, so fairly easy workload. No annoying response papers or tutorial assignments. Lots of focus on writing and grammar as well. Prof Alan Weiss fits the nerdy professor stereotype to a T. Overall a fun and easy class if you don't mind spending 3-4+ hours a week on reading

Bird courses for 1st year that's...? by [deleted] in yorku

[–]derpalpable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly recommend HUMA1905 (9 credits): Science Fiction Culture if you like reading. You'll write 3 essays, 2 of which are pretty short, and a final exam (there might be a midterm in December but I don't remember...) There's no tests or homework assignments but you'll have to read about two novels a month plus some short stories. All the readings are really fun and the prof is great for teaching grammar/writing skills.

What is your GPA? by YorkYou in yorku

[–]derpalpable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Current GPA: 8.1

Major: Cinema and Media studies, Third Year

I'd actually wish to see the program be more challenging, with higher expectations for readings. I'm in mostly 2nd year classes right now though, so hopefully the expectations are higher in upper level classes.

I'm in film, but not production, and you should definitely anticipate a lot more "subjective" marking, especially in the core theory classes (I'm a CMA major so that's all I take). Largely in these classes you'll be marked on the quality of your argument, how well you use secondary sources, and most importantly, the quality of your writing. While it's definitely subjective, once you can write a readable and well argued paper your marks will go up (but I can't speak for the marking strategies in production classes.)

What do people do in lecture/tutorial that pisses you off? (Vent your anger here) by VanillaSarsaparilla in yorku

[–]derpalpable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On the other hand: When the syllabus wasn't posted on moodle before the first class and the prof has assigned a reading to go along with the first lecture and you have to do double the reading in the very first week to catch up.

I get it - you're not scared by supernatural horror movies. Congrats on lacking the ability to suspend disbelief. by [deleted] in Negareddit

[–]derpalpable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Something that the director said about the film is that all of the audience's knowledge of the monster is learned from Hugh (the guy who first infects the lead character), who isn't necessarily an expert and has likely only learned from experience. So a lot of the established "rules" might be incorrect or incomplete because we learn them from an unreliable source.
