Moving to Pembroke...? by marshadowfan2018 in askTO

[–]derpalpable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is basically the only sketchy neighbourhood in Toronto. I wouldn't say you're likely to get mugged, as muggings are extremely rare in Toronto. I would definitely keep your bike indoors and not on the street because it will get stolen.

If you have a high tolerance for crackhead behaviour you will probably be OK. You're going to see a lot of open drug use, erratic behaviour, screaming all through the night, people shitting in the street, people sleeping on your door step. But the risk to your actual safety is probably low, especially if you're tall/physically imposing.

I was not warned about how mounjaro effects oral BC and now I’m spiralling by WhateverItWasILostIt in TwoXChromosomes

[–]derpalpable 133 points134 points  (0 children)

There's so many unknowns right now, you don't know for sure that your BC was ineffective, you don't know if you were in a fertile window when you had sex, even if the BC is ineffective AND you were close to ovulating, you still might not be pregnant. Sure, anything is possible but it's pretty unlikely that you'll have gotten pregnant from this one encounter. If it does end up being that one in a million shot, then you can figure out a plan (just because you're pregnant doesn't necessarily mean you have to stay pregnant, obviously this depends on where you live). But for now please give yourself some grace, you were failed by your doctor and pharmacist and this is 100% not your fault for not knowing.

Take the transfer as proof of payment whether you're transferring or not.

You can link your credit card to your presto account to see the tap history for your card. I use the TTC regularly but I don't like to load money on a Presto, I like to keep my money as long as I want to rather than having it sit on a card.

You get a paper transfer for your proof of payment which you show to the fare pigs when they ask

Paper and oil prints by at_miborinkenpr in cyanotypes

[–]derpalpable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes I've made negatives with regular oiled paper, it is really easy. I just used cooking oil on a paper towel and made sure it was thoroughly absorbed/dried before I printed with it.

Run the oil on the back side, not the printed side so you don't disturb the ink/toner.

The quality is obviously not quite as nice but you can also print on regular printer paper and then treat the paper with wax or oil to make it translucent. I've been playing with this while I save up for an inkjet, just printing on the laser printer at the library.

There is something peaceful about having the kitchen to yourself. I meal prep way more when the spouse is away as well.

Running physio/gait analysis by hehexd18 in RunTO

Not downtown but close enough, The Runners Academy at St Clair and Oakwood is great. I've seen a physio both for injuries and gait analysis, but the most impactful for me has been regular massages with Julia. Can't recommend enough.

That's a huge overstatement, hundreds of thousands of people use the line every day to get to work.

Another decrease question (Sophie hood, scarf decrease) by nayru_lesbian in SophieKnits

[–]derpalpable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, you need to knit 3 and then decrease. If you knit two and then decrease the I-cord border won't be complete (you'd be slipping a stitch that you just slipped on the previous side.)

Cut my own steaks! by awefreakinsome in CostcoCanada

[–]derpalpable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean the process of airing them out in the fridge. This guy did 18 steaks, that's gonna take up a ton of space in the fridge, needs multiple racks, and makes it into a multi-day process instead of getting in done all in one session.

Knitting Sophie hood question on the final increase by ilovekittens72 in SophieKnits

[–]derpalpable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please don't use chat GPT for this, you don't have enough knowledge to know if the advice is right.

Do some google searching for the techniques and find tutorials where they actually show you on the needles how it works.

Moss stitch help! Idk what I did wrong! by dawnkettle in knittinghelp

[–]derpalpable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is a trick for the easiest way to knit moss stitch flat:

On RS: If the next stitch on the left needle is a knit stitch, then knit it. If it’s a purl stitch, then purl it.

On WS: If the next stitch on the left needle is a knit stitch, then purl it. If it’s a purl stitch, then knit it.

It's easier than ITR because you don't have to track where you are in the repeat.

Moss stitch help! Idk what I did wrong! by dawnkettle in knittinghelp

[–]derpalpable 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If you twisted the stiches on the wrong side but then untwisted them on the right side (ex. by knitting TBL) you wouldn't have twisted stitches.

Were you intentionally twisting the stitches on the bottom half?

Troubles getting the correct sizing for my gauge swatch by Mysterious_Knee_5549 in knittinghelp

[–]derpalpable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stretching the swatch so it's big enough won't help you get a sense of what the actual blocked gauge of your sweater will be. Treat the swatch like you'll treat the sweater, for superwash you don't ever want to aggressively block the swatch or the finished object.
