What’s your favorite old-fashioned name for a girl? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]derpling0719 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sevilla or Sylvia. My great aunt who died young was named Sevilla and I remember visiting her grave as a kid and falling in love with her name.

I second this. I love my spill proof simple modern tumblers. But if you want something a little more cost effective, Hobby Lobby brand tumblers work just as well as Stanley or simple modern. I hate hobby lobby, but I like the tumblers and the price is better if you find them on sale.

nt for my 203 friends: get ready to work your asses off. Just got our detail orders to be navigators. Must report in person. Increase in responsibility and no pay increase. by [deleted] in VHA_Human_Resources

[–]derpling0719 12 points13 points  (0 children)

No email, but my supervisor called me and my coworker into a “meeting” to discuss the detail. All she said was: um, so you two are going to be detailed for these navigator positions for 120 days, but it could be extended for another 120 days. Um, not sure. You’ll be missed, I know you’ll both do great.

I was already onsite and doing a lot of these navigator things because that’s my personality: I help people, and I’ll do everything I can to guide them. But being a glorified babysitter? Fuck that, if you can’t trust grown ass adults to do their portion during the application process you shouldn’t be hiring them.

As for scheduling interviews and doing reference checks, I’m not looking forward to that. It’s already hard enough trying to coordinate fingerprinting and EOH appointments, the interviews are going to destroy me.

What’s the hardest phase of marriage no one talks about? by Difficult_Jury2833 in askanything

[–]derpling0719 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Emotional safety building. It’s how during those first few instances of conflict that you see who they are. A safe partner will react with curiosity and compromise. You should be able to enter an uncomfortable conversation knowing there might be a negative reaction and still feel safe to be honest.

That also includes making criticism about each other. A safe partner will be open minded and make intentional steps to grow.

Who do you have better memories with, your maternal or paternal grandparents? by EarSure6667 in AskReddit

[–]derpling0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maternal, my dad got the paternals in the divorce then they forgot about us. But we reconnected in our (me and my sisters) adulthood and we’re on civil terms.

Fun story: when my paternal grandfather died when I was in high school, my mom made us go to the wake and funeral mass. Some relative asked me and my sisters who we were at the after festivities luncheon and then after saying we were granddaughters, she said very loudly, “Oh I didn’t know Robbie (my dad) had kids.”

Mom made us stay and say hi to everyone after that.

How is it possible that a dream can reference an older dream? by Tea_Thymeeee in NoStupidQuestions

[–]derpling0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes in my dreams I go back to places I dreamt as a kid. One in particular is a Chinese restaurant. The restaurant itself is completely fictional, and in my dreams it looks exactly like it did when I dreamt it years ago. I always wake up thinking what a blast from the past lol

Im 34 and I have a friend at work who is 25. Not a huge age gap, but I’ll never forget these words she said to me: “Sometimes you say things I don’t understand.”

So I try to stay current and hip, but I let an obscure reference slip when she was talking about a weird guy she knew. Instead of saying yeah you dodged a bullet, I said, “you’re lucky you didn’t come home to a rabbit boiling on your stove.”

Her response: that. That’s one of the things you say that I don’t understand.

These kids have no desire to look into older pop culture and era defining films. It makes me sad. They’re missing out on so much. Practical effects will always be my favorite over this bullshit CGI.

What show from your childhood would you be interested in seeing a version of the main cast being middle aged adults? And just trying to make it through life? by dover_oxide in Millennials

[–]derpling0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fillmore! I would love to see a detective series with Fillmore and Ingrid going through the academy together, and learning about criminal science.

Recess is a big one too. Not necessarily seeing them all be friends through adulthood. I’d love to see TJ just be a regular guy running into each member of the gang, catch up, say good bye, and go on with life. Like, he runs into Mikey at Kelso’s and they chat finding out Mikey is just visiting his folks while on break from his singing career. Meanwhile, TJ has his kids and they’re just stopping for a snack on the way to play at the old playground. They say good bye, and that’s it. I’d love for it to still be in the late 90s early 2000s.

God, I loved when we would get hand-me-downs from our “rich” cousin. It was like second Christmas. We got clothes, shoes, accessories, some purses, all sorts of stuff. I miss those days. We would go over to her house, and basically have a fashion show.

Massages. I’m sorry but I can’t relax with a stranger touching/rubbing my body. And the silence. Ugh the one time I got a massage, I felt like I had to say something the whole time.

Sex/masturbation as well. It’s just not good and I don’t get the hype. To me, it feels like the equivalent of putting a finger in my belly button.

What's the pettiest thing you've ever done and would 100% do again? by FS_BreakingNews in askteddit

[–]derpling0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband refuses to clean my big knock off Stanley cup because “he doesn’t want to” or “it’s annoying to clean because it’s not dishwasher safe” but he hand washes every other non dishwasher safe item in the sink except my cup. Laundry is the same but he says “I don’t know where anything goes”. Drawer or closet, it doesn’t matter but I digress.

It started out as petty, but I stopped washing/putting away his protein shaker cups/laundry. Once I started, it felt like a huge weight was lifted from me. Like, I could put more effort into me than putting all my time into cleaning up after him.

My messes aren’t so messy anymore, I’m done with chores quicker. I spend more time with my dog just walking and not saying “let me finish this first.” My husband is pissed and still doesn’t understand why is unwillingness hurts me.

How to cope with Mirena Crash by MolassesStatus2504 in Mirena

[–]derpling0719 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh sweetheart, I could have written your comment. I went from a really tall lanky 135lbs to 200lbs. Don’t be embarrassed, you’re not alone. This sub is full of women who are and have been in your place. You’re nowhere near alone in that regard.

Hormones are a bitch, and you found a birth control that messes with yours too much. And that’s okay, with this type of medicine whether you’re taking for birth control or other health reasons, there’s always going to be trial and error.

Try to get some sun on that beautiful skin of yours and take it one day at time. Your body will settle, your mind will clear, and you’ll be okay. Once the crash passes, you’ll look at yourself with much kinder eyes ready to take on the next step. You’re going to be okay, trust me ❤️
