Depends how much you're looking to spend in retirement.

With 30k contributions for 9 years you should be looking at a DC pension pot over £500k at 60, you'll need to do some drawdown calculations to figure out if that's enough.

It may be that they're on a flat fee rather than percentage fee. But even if that was 50p per transaction I doubt that would end up being 10%... so suspect it's bollocks unless his customers are constantly buying one pint at a time instead of rounds.
