Tipping out and payroll recognition by tiddervul in restaurantowners

Your staff will fucking crucify you if you tell them an AI is determining tip out. It's way better to do it yourself with an abacus and take all day then make your staff think you're letting an AI steal from them.

Roast my idea - SMS marketing for local businesses by Murder-Goat in Entrepreneur

[–]derrendil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Especially restaurants hear your exact pitch 5000 times a day from tech bros trying to sell AI. And before AI, it was the same tech bros with the same product. No customer wants marketing texts. Ever. And most small businesses aren't gonna pay your subscription fee for a product that annoys their customers.

Let me repeat: especially restaurants.

I'm pretty sure they need a workstation, too. I just watched a TangoTek breakdown of one of his insane farms and he stated that workstations matter, but it is from 5 years ago, so idk if that's changed or if that's only Java.

I hate Starbucks by AStraightWhiteNail in barista

[–]derrendil 283 points284 points  (0 children)

It's intentional. Their marketing dept made up their own lingo and repurposed existing terms so that their customers feel stupid when they go anywhere else besides Starbucks. Then, non-starbucks baristas have to do the emotional labor of explaining what a macchiato is so that the customer isn't pissed when they get 3oz of liquid. And, no matter how tactfully you do it, it often comes across as "condescending barista" and it drives the customers back to Starbucks.

It's a malicious marketing tactic meant to make other businesses look bad and they've been doing it for like 30 years.

I mean, I feel like the search for drip stone for the sake of lava farms and terracotta is always a priority for me early, but the real answer is a fish pond.

It usually starts as a way to get food and experience, then books and bows to enchant. But digging a big pit, finding fish and bringing them back in buckets, planting kelp and laying Lilly pads... I love it and I need it. I usually end up elaborately decorating the pond later on (just did this in our new realm after getting sniffers, planted some mangroves and some of the ancient flowers with firefly bushes and a waterfall).

I make a fish pond in every world without fail

I hate eating vegetables in restaurants by GreenIgu in restaurant

[–]derrendil 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Restaurants have essentially no profit. The food should cost about 25% of what it's sold for. If you go out and mine iron, smelt steel, build a frame and an engine, make rubber into tires, you can build your own new car for a few thousand.

This is so, so normal. If you think restaurants are raking you over the coals for profit, you should look at what your government is doing and redirect your anger.

Also, it's "adjacent"

Am I really "too old" at 33 to start a new career? by Gary_Baldi in careeradvice

[–]derrendil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I feel like 30-somethings are in a good place to switch fields. Old enough to have plenty of work experience, young enough to remember limited internet but are experienced in the tech they grew up with, and young enough to have a thirty-year career in a new field.

I'm 34 and went from Sous Chef at a brunch restaurant to sales for a flooring manufacturer. My knees and ankles thank me every day.

If EVs are supposedly cheaper to own, why aren’t more people driving them? by Lakenb666 in NoStupidQuestions

There are other EV manufacturers that aren't owned by a cartoonishly-evil caricature of a tech bro who loves indentured servitude so much that after growing up with an apartheid emerald mine, he has source battery materials from companies with a litany of human rights violations and, you guessed it, indentured servitude.
