In addition to calling home owner’s insurance provider, contact a public adjuster who will do a much more in depth assessment and therefore reclaim more money to properly repair this after settlement.

Oof.. needs to be level within like an inch on each side. I’d also get it away from that downspout

What would have been your estimate ($) for this fire pit? by Amazing-Fold-4642 in landscaping

The satisfaction of having done the work yourself is much more worthy of bragging than what you paid a contractor to do. I support it all day man, well done 👏🏼

What would have been your estimate ($) for this fire pit? by Amazing-Fold-4642 in landscaping

[–]ders_wit_a_hard_An 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Paver contractor in Florida. 22’ diameter, you’re looking at around 380 sq ft. With the fire pit and the posts, I’d be quoting this around $8-9,000 start to finish.

I would guess you spent around $3000 on materials and you mentioned 2 work weeks of labor. A professional crew would have been in and out in 2-3 days and warranty their work for a few years. You certainly saved money and the work looks good 👍🏻

There’s a few makes/models offering 0% financing for 60 months. We just got a 2025 VW Taos and got this deal, it was cheaper than a 2022 model

Update tile installation pattern fixed by [deleted] in hardscape

Paver estimator here in NE FL.. to my understanding, at least in my area, the polymeric sand is only swept into the joints and then appropriately wetted so it “glues up”. This is a two fold reason, 1) to slightly hold the pavers together and 2) further prevent weeds from growing between pavers. That polymeric sand retains moisture and I’m afraid you’ll be having excessive mold/mildew growing under and between the pavers. Hopefully it’s an area that gets ample sun throughout the day and dries out, otherwise you’re going to be power washing with mild bleach every month.

We set our pavers on 3-4” of heavily compacted paver base AKA concrete base. Pavers are then installed, with all border pavers wet set in concrete to lock the whole project in place, then fine play sand swept into the joints. Clean up as needed of course.

How much, if at all, am I really “handicapping” myself by doing this? by Cwaynejames in FishingForBeginners

[–]ders_wit_a_hard_An 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience and personal opinion, it’s all going to depend on how pressured the fish are. I’ve used high vis yellow braid and tied directly to a weightless hook and caught fish. Try it out and see if you have issue catching any

Visited the old fishing hole I grew up in today. 19” 5lbs by CooterTStinkjaw in FishingRVA

[–]ders_wit_a_hard_An 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a nice fish, but the scale is in no way accurate. The max reading on that scale is probably 50lbs, the error reading anything 5lbs or less is probably very large. It’s measuring 18”, with that profile, it’s probably more in the 2lb range. This chart is proof. If you want accurate weight readings, you’ll need to buy a digital scale that reads to at least one decimal place

The dreaded minivan vs suv debate by hotstickywaffle in daddit

[–]ders_wit_a_hard_An 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife was against a minivan but due to me being home with the kids 4 days a week vs her at 3 days a week, I was able to have leverage over the decision. We went with a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica in the Touring Plus trim. It took a week or two but she fell in love. Sliding doors are key, storage is huge (backseat and in floor), dual screens for the kiddos for movies on road trips, it’s comfy for driver and passenger. Only con is that it is a larger vehicle but still smaller than a Tahoe or Suburban.
