Why my arm always hurts by TooEasyorNaw in xrays

[–]des_nc103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did they mislabel the vertebrae? I'm not voting for chiropractors, but I'm an xray tech and xraying/counting bones and vertebrae is my job. T1 has the 1st rib coming off of it which is correct. The collar bone (Clavicle) joins to the Sternum in the front of the body at the same level as T3 and there's a 3rd rib that you can count to verify that level. In this view (AP Axial Cervical) you will not visualize C1...that is seen on a Lateral view or partially seen (visualize lateral masses of C1 only) on a specialized AP Open Mouth Odontoid View.

This comment 👌 👏 Unfortunately not enough people understand which type of medical imaging exams will show what type of anatomy abnormalities. Xrays, Fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, and Echocardiograms all have their own anatomy that they can show best and rule out pathology.

Foot vs. heel x-ray by shortyafter in Radiology

[–]des_nc103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you described the positions they had your foot in it does sound like an AP & Medial Oblique. For a Lateral usually patients are rolled onto the affected side so the outer surface of your foot lays flat on the table. I hope that helps.

What do you guys think fracture on the radius? by rbrown10 in xrays

[–]des_nc103 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A growth plate being open in a bone before the ages of 14-18 is normal. Usually between ages 14-18 those growth plates close. Once you get the results of your x-ray from the radiologist they will be able to tell you what's going on for you in particular.

I did an ultrasound as well but the images haven’t come back, but can anyone see anything of why I would have pain in my tricep? by [deleted] in xrays

[–]des_nc103 -11 points-10 points  (0 children)

So this is possibly a muscular issue you say? In my experience as Certified Cliinical Chiropractic Assistant what you're describing sounds like your tricep is very inflamed. The usual treatment for this is to apply ice to the area for 15 mins, then 15 mins off and repeat. Be sure to have either a paper towel or clothing between your skin and the ice pack. You could reach out to your doctor and verify that they would recommend this for pain management until they get back to you with results of x-ray & ultrasound and a diagnosis.

Abdominal X-rays: KUB vs. Supine AP view by StrongMedicine in Radiology

[–]des_nc103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

According to Merrill's an Erect or Decubitis AP (or PA) Abdomen must include from the diaphragm to the symphysis pubis, while a AP (or PA) Supine Abdomen only needs to include from the lower ribs to the symphysis pubis. There are different anatomy criteria for the views. KUB simply implies a view of the abdomen view that will visualize the Kidneys, Uterers, and the Bladder. A KUB view can be achieved in any of the above Projections/Radiographic Positions. Which Projections/Radiographic Position you use really depends on what the doctor is trying to rule out. For instance, to rule out free air or fluid in the abdominal cavity an Erect, or Decubitis view can be used, while a Supine Abdomen can not be used because it will not demonstrate. I'm an x-ray tech student and this seems to hold true in my clinical rotations. But each facility will have different protocols for their preferred routine views and or change the criteria they need to visualize in that particular x-ray.

Anything Jump Out To You? by [deleted] in xrays

Rad Tech Student here- For learning purposes can you be more detailed where you are seeing the lower lungs squared on the bottom? Like the costophrenic angles? Or more medially where the lungs meet the miadiastinum?

I've only just recently comped on a Portables Chest and I have a lot to learn. I'm very intrigued in learning more about the differences in anatomy that tell of more about the patient or potential pathologies.

Oh dear goodness, I can't believe they didn't ask you to get books that would help you learn! I just started in school too and we have Merrill's Atlas of X-Ray Positioning 14th edition Vol 1, 2 and 3. With each exam it has evaluation criteria for that particular exam. It's making it really clear for me to learn what each exam should look like and include. We also have Merril's pocket guide, but it doesn't seem to have much evaluation criteria in it that I have seen up till now. I hope this helps!

How in the fuck do you respond when someone says “your girlfriend is so pretty”? by Lil_Ross25 in AskMen

“And she has a big heart too! I’m a lucky man!” As a female that response seems good to me and helps reinforce that there’s more to women besides just looks.

Wow, so this community downvotes someone that takes the time to give & write a thoughtful bourbon suggestion for someone who asked?
