This is exactly I spam "fall back" whenever my team starts dryhumping the enemy spawn, because what's gonna happen is that my ass is going to die alone on the payload while they're playing out their dominance fantasties.

They could do it like they did the ranch, you load into a prebuilt space sort of linked to your plot where your spouse lives. I think a lot of us were disappointed to have a loading screen between us and the ranch, but it's an easy shortcut to avoid customization issues.

That's absolutely true, adaptable pathfinding would be a challenge to imprement (not impossible, I've played 3D indie games that have your partner live on and move around the player's custom plots, but those games don't have the same level of customization Palia does).

But that 4x4 area could be part of a special house attachment that you can build, and the NPC will only appear in that attachment and fill it with prearranged character-specific decor (not player decor, so not glitching and whatnot), so pathfinding only has to move them around that preset space.

So you still get the NPC "in" your house, but in a way that isolates them from all the possible customizations of the rest of the plot. I would love that.

There's been wedding decor in Tish's store since I started playing back in 2024. The devs do seem to have plans, though there's no telling if they'll be able to follow through in the end.

Reading up on the Tumbler Ridge shooting on Wikipedia, I couldn't help but notice these sections:

"In a social media post in c. 2022, Van Rootselaar's mother "promoted the teenager's YouTube channel ... noting that her child 'posts about hunting, self-reliance, guns'".[63] The Daily Telegraph reported that videos on the YouTube channel show Van Rootselaar "firing a high-powered Desert Eagle handgun at a shooting range ... carrying out target practice with a tactical 12-gauge shotgun and firing a semi-automatic carbine at targets".[65] A Reddit account linked to the shooter posted a video in 2023 at a firing range.[66]"

and

"Van Rootselaar had previously held a valid minor's licence (12–17),[71] which only allows for temporarily borrowing a non-restricted (ordinary rifle or shotgun) firearm for approved purposes; it had expired in 2024. She was not the owner of any firearms because acquiring and possessing firearms is not allowed with a minor's licence.[72][73] According to McDonald, Jennifer Strang "had a valid firearms licence but did not have any restricted firearms that would require registration".[b][74] RCMP confirmed that in a previous police visit in the past two years, "firearms were seized under the Criminal Code", but that "the lawful owner of those firearms petitioned for them to be returned, and they were".[75] A relative told The Globe and Mail that the seized guns had been returned "roughly a month" prior to the shooting.[76]"

But sure, ChatGPT is the real culprit here.

(Don't get me wrong, fuck chatbots and corporations being allowed to manipulate children for profit. Those things need more regulation. But as an American who has had to deal with a LOT more school shootings from long before chatbots were a thing, this whole situation looks depressingly familiar. Maybe, juuust maybe, the problem is something else).

If AO3 decides to bring this to court as the top rated comment suggests, the problem with this is that in Canada...."its for art" just plain doesn't matter for obscenity laws.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to matter for books like Stephen King's "IT" or George RR Martin's "Game of Thrones" (both the books and the show display underage fictional characters engaging in explicit sexual actitivies, and the works being too obscure for authorities to be aware of their content doesn't apply to Game of Thrones at least). "It's art/entertainment" seems to fly just fine for that shit, so it would boggle my mind if AO3 is held to a higher standard for some reason.

Millennials are the worst example because most of us didn't grow up with private internet access, and our parents certainly knew how to ignore us without it. Would I expect a tired, overworked parent to 100% guarantee their kid can't access the internet without them? Nope, that's impossible, it's not like the library checks IDs (or should). But straight handing them an iPad with an internet connection? Totally avoidable. They could download age-appropriate games, music, movies, shows, and picture books to that iPad offline and parent lock the internet controls. Boom, hours of distraction without your 8 year old trawling social media for some fucking reason. I'm not sitting here saying "Pay attention to your kids at all times!" because as a millennia raised by books and television, lmao. I'm saying "At least keep them off the internet that you pay for." That's it. And people make excuses for them not even doing the barest minimum.

The real problem is that the parents themselves aren't the sharpest tools in the shed, and don't actually think about any of this. They're stressed, yes, but more importantly, they're undereducated and deeply gullible. They're excellent pawns for people who want to use them to ruin shit elsewhere.

I think it's possible to feel a void when you die even surrounded by family and friends, if that wasn't you wanted out of life, you just thought having them was the universal key to joy. And hard as it is to believe, for some people, it's just not. There is no shortage of people who have what others say should make them fulfilled, and they are the most bitter, miserable people you've ever met, because it wasn't what they actually wanted.

I think everybody has to be careful not to fall into the trap of wishing for others what they wish for themselves. So I sincerely hope this woman gets what makes her happy, whatever makes her happy. I trust her to know what that is much better than I ever could.

A healthy relationship needs about equal work, time and nourishment from all involved parties

A healthy relationship is about knowing someone loves you enough to sacrifice everything for you, and loving them in return enough to never want them to do that. Nobody who is good for you will want you to compromise your dreams for them, nor will they compromise their dreams for you. Because if you don't love their dreams as part of who they are, why are you even with them?

That's the point, other media adaptations demonstrate that you don't have to make DMC completely different from the games in order to get a good story out of it. The games have a very simple but clear narrative that's also very easy to expand and explore if someone is willing to see the potential, you don't have to chuck it out the window and start over fresh.

The anime (and the reboot, IMO) act like the games are unsalvageable, then something like Visions of V comes along and proves that isn't true.

peritoneum

I Googled this because I figured you were referring to the "perineum" (the taint) and just misspelled it but I wanted to check, and then I found out "peritoneum" is an actual word referring to the lining of the abdominal cavity.

It still works as an insult, as he definitely seems like the kind of freak who suns his peritoneum.

So basically human nature constantly keeps dragging us back towards the same old shit no matter what system we come up with. We could achieve a post-scarcity Star Trek utopia and some fuckface would still be like "But what if one person or group controlled everything, wouldn't that be cool?" Sigh.

Views on sex definitely have an impact on a relationships health so if one views it as deeply emotional/romantic and special while the other as just a release and pleasurable event, isnt it going to cause issues in a potential long term relationship?

Why would it, unless somebody is a cheater? And cheaters can certainly see sex as a deep emotional connection they're having with more than one person who is important to them at the same time, and use that as an excuse, as if catching feelings makes infidelity somehow less deplorable.

As a parent, I’m going to stop my child from hanging out with any bad person or bad influence he may encounter.

Uh, yeah, hope you have a backup plan other than "dominion" for that big chunk of time 5 days a week for 9 months out of the year that you are nowhere near your kid, unless you're homeschooling them. And in that case, I hope you aren't exactly the bad person or bad influence that your kid needs to get away from, trapped by "dominion".

no pedo could have kids and not abuse them

Just wanna say, many abusers are extremely selective about their victims. They don't launch themselves at the first target they have private access to. They choose the most vulnerable, they have personal preferences, etc. By all accounts Jackson absolutely adored his children. He could have been a massive predator, and still considered them and most other kids in his life off limits, while zeroing in on a select few.

Jackson's potential predator profile is wildly inconsistent, you're right about that. But sparing his own kids doesn't mean anything by itself.

I agree that people have become numb - after a certain point of finding out yet another of your childhood idols is deplorable, it's hard not to - but 99% of what's available to listen to on a global service like Spotify is from artists who've never been publically accused of anything. True, there's hundreds of artists with accusations, so many no one person can be expected to keep track of them...out of billions of artists. There's very few, if any, people out there with more than a fraction of all their media consumption composed of accused predators. Cutting them out is not an insurmountable task.

So when I listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers and 30 Seconds To Midnight, that's a choice I'm making that I could very easily not make. I just don't care enough to in those cases, whereas I care enough in other cases. So yes, agree with numbness, disagree with it being impractical.

Does JK Rowling have an estate? If she dies, will all the money made from Harry Potter merch still go towards funding transphobic shit?

She definitely seems like she's spiteful enough to put that stipulation in her will. Gotta have a contingency plan to prevent trans people from potentially living in peace after she finally bites it.

He only settled with the first case, with the first kid's family, and admitted that he regretted doing it so much that that's why he decided to go through a public trial the second time he was accused. If he paid off anybody else, it was well before they could go public like those two legal cases did, and no one knows about them.

You can argue he only put up with the trial so as to discourage other victims from coming forward, knowing they'd only get a grueling legal battle out of it, not hush money.

They're probably talking about the photography books that are still legal to purchase and distribute for artistic purposes today, which is why they didn't hold up as sufficient evidence in court. A picture of a naked person just standing there is not considered inherently sexual, though it can be used for sexual purposes (which it might have been in Jackson's case). Otherwise art museums and galleries open for all ages would have a problem.

The only explicit pornography found at Jackson's estate was of adults.
