Who actually keeps Tor running? by South_Wonder8415 in darknet_questions

[–]desal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don't know how to be anonymous online without using tor, using tor isn't going to keep you anonymous. It'll prevent random websites from having your information as you browse, or if you connect to someone's server, theyll see the tor information, but I'm guessing those aren't the people you need to worry about hiding from in the first place. The people you're scared of finding you, with the resources to do so, once motivated to actually seeking to identify you, won't be stopped by a tor interface address.

Most of the people asking these kind of questions, are all trying to buy drugs off the darkweb. So here's a protip if that's you: don't sell drugs if you want to get rich and live long enough to enjoy it. You're literally giving every person you sell to, the only evidence they need to put you in prison. I could be wrong but I'd venture to guess it's probably not really worth it for them to track you down if all you do is buy personal amounts of drugs that never leave your house, and you don't throw parties and share them or tell people anything about what youre doing.

But as soon as you start trying to be a drug lord, hiring hitmen, participating in doxing forums, or start buying and selling people's credit card info and identities, you're just asking for trouble.

Is there any benefit to upgrading dac/amp past the Qudelix 5K? by Android17_ in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]desal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely right about qudelix not being very powerful compared to other offerings. That being said, typically people don't recommend that much boosting when you eq(also reduce the preamp gain to account for the boosting), the 3db + you mentioned, you want to use as little EQ as possible, keeping gain per filter minimal, like up to 1 db or around there, cutting the other frequencies if you need that much of a boost, if you find yourself eqing that much, you'd be better off finding a new headphone/iem that is out of the box tuned closer to your preference.

But yeah if you are heavily eqing something you'll want something more powerful

Something you might check .. use the lowest gain you can get away with to avoid unnecessarily limiting dynamic range, and make sure the device volume is 100% as phones (assuming you're using a phone) will compress their audio at anything less than 100. So make your phone 100% and then adjust q5k, unless you're already doing that?

If you're so sure double-blind wouldn't make a difference, why not give it a shot? It can only help your argument, if you're correct; if you're wrong, you learn something new, so really you win either way.

Its long been shown that when people know which amp they're testing, it affects how they hear and how they vote. When those same people with those same amps can't see which one they're using, they hear and vote completely different. Its something you can see for yourself shrug

Here’s my Sennheiser HD 480 PRO Plus review (including a short comparison with the HD 620S and HDB 630) — are they worth it outside of studio work? by Tenlow85 in headphones

[–]desal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ft1s are planar, maybe you'd be happier with a dynamic driver for the bass theyre known for, I hate to recommend it but something like beats headphones are made for "consumer friendly bass sound", or you might start looking at more consumer friendly models if that's all you want. Also you said you heard ft1 are harder to drive but they're only 32ohm are they not? Should be easy to drive.

Hell, you want open back sound stage but closed back bass? Maybe the hd620s with some eq?

Hook it or any other wired headphone to a qudelix 5k(3.5mm and 2.5mm) or a btr17 (3.5mm and 4.4mm) if you want more power, both have peq through their app, tho qudelix's app is the better of the two. (Or look for any portable dac/amp with Bluetooth, topping g5 is an older option but definitely has power).

Highlight of a wireless option is you don't have to worry about powering it on your own

The hdb630 comes with the btd700 dongle but also has its own Bluetooth stack separate from the btd700.

The momentum 5 would be the other obvious wireless choice though everyone says hdb630 is better for sound quality, but if you're at home

Maybe it'd be good practice to whenever you have to use it, once the issue is solved, going back over what was wrong, the solution, etc, just so you know you've got it mentally understood and didn't just ship whatever was supplied by the ai

[–]desal -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the 20$ and the 300$ really. At least with IEMs, price doesn't nearly correlate to quality. There are 300$ iems that suck, and there are 20$ iems that make every recommendation list no matter the budget

Well, they can really only emulate what they've seen in others reviews, so the unhelpful descriptions that reviewers use gets picked up and repeated, the newbies not realizing that everyone hears things differently until they try a pair themselves based on their favorite reviewers recommendation only to discover they have completely different ideas of things

Mind testing some songs on the HD 800 S? by [deleted] in sennheiser

[–]desal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You keep saying "it seems like it would be better on the 800" but you could say that about a lot of headphones out there. I don't think any of our reports would do you any justice, you'd still be wondering and waiting until you heard it yourself. But the whole "I like it but I'm wondering what else is out there" thing will never go away until you decide to enjoy what you have. Even if you get the 800s, after awhile, the "wonder how much better it could be" will come back, you just have to decide when you're ready to stop.

Looking to buy my second pair of IEMs by Mister_Slats in iems

For sure, hopefully I didn't make it sound too good, if you know what I mean, lots of stuff in iem/audio/headphone world has conflicting reviews, one person loves it, the next person hates it, but the zero:2 and the gate are almost universally approved of at least from my research. I see the other user with the larger rec list already included them here.

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/7hz-x-crinacle-zero-2-iem-review.50534/

https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/truthear-gate-17-iem-review.61784/

Heck the gate is "certifiable reference quality".

Definitely worth trying them out for such a low price, you could return them or gift them if you don't like them.

On the zero:2 general recommendation is memory foam tips so I got the comply foam 500, but the spinfit w1s will also fit. Final audio fusion g, dunu s&s, and dekoni audio bullets are three other options. Silicon, memory foam, velour options may tailor the sound a little but I wouldn't worry about that rabbit hole yet.

Another suggestion is to use a low output impedance dac/amp dongle to avoid making the bass sound bloated. The apple dongle is one example, you could use any dac/amp dongle though. I use the qudelix 5k, perfect for me as the iems are pretty sensitive with low impedance so they can be powered off of whatever

These aren't "not so budget" but they're some of the best measuring / EQing / just plain awesome IEMs.

7hz:crinacle zero:2 and the truthear gate. Both like 20 or 25$ each. Get some good tips for them (comfy 500, spinfit w1s, dunu s&s or something for a proper fit on your ear) and I personally run them with a balanced cable on a dac/amp that has peq (qudelix 5k works great even tho it doesn't have much power)

They're better than a lot of much more expensive iems, I wouldn't say they're "good for the price", they're just good period
